I used to love this place- the food was always excellent, the staff were super friendly... I'm not sure where it really went wrong. The past few times I've been there I've noticed a serious decline in both service and food, but I thought I'd give it one last shot yesterday and take my mom to breakfast, since it was always our favorite place. Our experience was so awful, I had to write a post.
We went in for a very late breakfast yesterday around 1pm, and the place was about half empty. After taking over 20 minutes just to get our drinks, which was incredibly unusual especially since the place was no where near packed, we were finally able to place our orders- ham and cheese omelet for my mom, biscuits and gravy for me, and a pastry to split. After half an hour of waiting on our food, and trying desperately to find our waitress so we could get a drink refill, our food showed up, and it was clear it'd been sitting a long while. My gravy had started to not only congeal, but had formed a skin on top of it, and was completely cold to the touch. However it was my mom's omelet that took the cake- I kept watching her after she took her first bite and looked like she was going to throw up, yet champ that she is she tried to take 2 more bites before turning a little green and just pushing the whole thing away. The woman has never been a picky eater in her life (heaven knows she suffered through enough of my concoctions during my teenage 'I'm a chef' phase), so I finally reached over to take a bite, and about lost my breakfast- they tasted like rotten milk.
After trying unsuccessfully to find my waitress (who had still never returned to so much as fill our drinks or bring us the pastry, and we were now going on an hour without seeing her), I finally grabbed another waiter and told him our dilemma with the rotten omelet. He asked what we wanted to do, and my mom, who had clearly lost her appetite, asked to just have it taken off our bill, as it'd taken us far longer to eat than we thought, and we had to go. He rushed off and pulled our waitress out of the kitchen, who then came over and asked us what was going on. I explained the situation again, and asked to just have it taken off our check so we could go. She told me "but they're already making a new one!"... which we a) Had NOT asked for, and in fact asked the opposite, and b) why come over and ask us what's wrong if you already know? My mom was honest to god ill at this point, and I told the waitress there was no way we were eating more eggs after that, which I told the waiter before, as well as the fact that we were in a hurry and needed to go. She turned around and stomped off, returning minutes later (STILL without drinks, even though I'd asked for a refill before she left) with a to go box of the omelet that we did not want. I reiterated that we didn't want the omelet and just wanted it taken off our bill, as well as the pastry since that had never showed up either- she turned around and stomped off again, returning with a pastry in a box, as well as our check, then turned around and left.
When we walked up to pay, I mentioned to the girl behind the counter that I didn't want to pay for the omelet and briefly told her what happened, but no luck- she just gave me a blank stare and said she didn't know where the manager was. At this point I gave up- we'd now been trapped in that restaurant over an hour and a half, my mom was ill, and we were incredibly late. I paid the tab, wrote "bad food and worse service" on the check, and left. To make matters worse, I should have thrown the omelet away as we walked out but I couldn't find a trash can, so I put both food boxes in the back seat- my fiance found it as soon as I got home 20 minutes later (thinking it was for him since it was an uneaten meal), drowned the omelet in Tabasco and ketchup before tasting it, and ended up with a god awful bout of food poisoning.
After that fiasco I will NEVER return, and have made sure to tell family and friends about our experience, since they all live in the area. Such a disappointment. read more
