This place is basically a glorified waffle house. (Which I enjoy the food at W.H. better). Went on a weekend morning and OMG it was so packed. Had to wait about 25 minutes for a table. The waiting area is not very big so people are packed inside in a big crowd. The people that have finished eating can barely get to the register to pay and exit. They have to wade through the mob of people, rubbing up against everyone trying to squeeze by. I like my personal space so this gave me major anxiety. The food was good. But you can't really mess up breakfast food. Waffles, eggs, & toast are all pretty universally prepared anywhere you order it. I was disappointed with the "Tri Tip" Dip Sandwich. I was expecting actual Tri Tip steak sliced on the sandwich but the meat was nothing more than "Steakums"/Philly Cheese steak meat. (It was a Philly Cheese steak sandwich served with beef broth for dipping. I don't know know they they just don't call it that on the menu instead of trying to make it sound fancier than what it is) I will give it to them that for as busy and crowded as they were the service was good. This was terrible. I wasn't well and my husband picked up the turkey platter for me with gravy, mashed potatoes, and green beans. He asked the girl that took the order if the mashed potatoes were red potatoes because I'm allergic to red potatoes and she said no. Brought it home. The green beans tasted out of a can, the turkey was like rubber, we didn't even get the cranberry sauce nor the toast served under the turkey that they talk about on the menu and of course the potatoes were red potatoes. I used to enjoy eating here. The wait staff were always friendly and attentive. However my husband's health has declined and we're no longer go out to eat. We've ordered pick up and door dashed from black bear. When I went to pick up, I went to the area where it says pick up orders since I didn't know my food would be sitting on a bench in the open. The girl at the register was trying to fix something so I stood in front of her waiting for her to finish so I could get my order. She didn't look up or say one word to me. But as soon as another woman walked up next to me, the girl behind the register asked how she could help her. When we started ordering through door dash, I started noticing the quality was getting worse and worse. Our food was always cold by the time it arrived. Not surprising since they leave orders waiting to be picked up in the lobby on a bench. One time our order was missing my husbands oatmeal but he didn't really care. Adorable and delicious. This one has been on the list for a while, mostly because it's usually so crowded by the time we get up and moving on a Saturday. Today we were seated immediately, shortly after 9am. By the time we were paying out, the lobby was jam-packed. Having just experienced the deliciousness that is Black Bear Diner, I understand why so many people wait. First, let's talk about the building. There's bear stuff everywhere. Bear puns. Bear paraphernalia. A plethora of bears and bear-related items. The rest of the place looks like a log cabin. Totes adorbs. This cheesy gal was in cheesy heaven. For reasons not entirely known to me, I prefer my breakfast food in a bowl. For other reasons, also unknown, most places don't offer this option on their menu so I'm usually the jerk who "customizes" their order within an inch of its life. Black Bear Diner offers a ScramBOWL (actual menu item name) that has all the breakfast things a girl could conceivably wish for in a breakfast. Bacon. Sausage. Eggs. Cheese. Potatoes. Jalapeños. I think there were onions and bell peppers on the menu but I left those off. Realistically the "bowl" was just a semi-deep plate, but I was pleased. The other half of my party of 2 (in breakfast and in life) ordered a biscuits and gravy situation that was, to put it mildly, generous. The biscuits are so big they could easily be mistaken for...something larger than a biscuit...and the bacon that came with it was perfect. You read that correctly - PERFECT. Funny story: as our sweet server came to top our coffee off midway through our meal, I noticed her name tag said Katy. Apparently my mind reacted before my common sense and I asked, "Is your name REALLY Katy?" I can't imagine how many times a day she has to have the same conversation: "Yes, and my kids go to Katy so there's a bunch of stuff in our house with my name on it and it's really trippy." Guys - I asked the question so you don't have to. If you get a rad, fun server who calls you "darlin" or "sweetie" and her name tag says Katy, the answer is yes. My husband wanted to eat here for Father's Day. I placed the online CURBSIDE order and set out to pick it up. I noticed that there was no set area for curbside when I arrived. I circled the crowded parking lot as I called. No one answered the phone in the 5 times that I called. A parking spot opened up, so I went in. Turns out...their phone is broken. They didn't set up a curbside outside KNOWING that they were accepting CURBSIDE orders. When I asked that they correct that, the cashier told me,"Yeah, Yeah...Ok, ma'am." When I got home, my food was cold since it had been sitting on a bench in the curbside section. It was FLAVORLESS, BURNED in some areas and OVERCOOKED in others. I can't even call the manager to correct it because the phone is broken. I expected more for $50 plus dollars AND a $5.00 tip for the "Curbside" crew that ended up being me. read more

It's a little pricy, but they serve big portions. The food is good, pretty standard for a diner. They do pot roast and other dinner items all day, so if you go in the morning you aren't stuck getting something and eggs with a side of pancakes. You can get a burger or a steak. I like the little shop at the front, much easier to get through than cracker barrel, you can actually still see the front counter unlike cracker barrel. Amazing late breakfast with my daughter today. The pancakes taste like warm cake, (no syrup necessary) the thick cut bacon was delicious, and eggs with salsa were fluffy and light. The iced pumpkin spiced coffee was delicious too. The decor was beary cute. I love it here! read more

I've been here quite a few times, it's always the same old experience but this time it was a little different.. An almost two hour wait difference because 'the kitchen was backed up' I don't think I've ever experienced this in my life to be honest. I guess it was overly crowded and too many orders were being placed, so we had to wait in the car for a long time with hungry kids. My girlfriend and I stopped by Black Bear Diner on a Sunday evening in early November. We were on a fairly long trip and wanted to eat dinner before we crossed Houston. I ordered chicken parmesan. The red pasta sauce tasted like ketchup and the chicken was cold and tough. I was equally unimpressed with my pasta which was also undercooked. My broccoli, which I prefer al dente, was close to raw. I can't remember what my girlfriend had but she was less disappointed than I was. Together we shared a chocolate cream pie. It looked very good in their pie case.
