I came in with my family. Let me tell you! We got seated right away and serviced right away. I don't know because of the time of day we went and it wasn't too busy but that was nice! Parking is kinda crowded because there's another major restaurant apple's bee like right next door. But as soon as you walk in, the place is decked out with a whole bunch of cute black bear decorations! They have an area where you can shop for stuff bears and other accessories. They have cakes and pies for sale in the front too! I ordered their patty melt sandwich with fries. It came out really quick, fresh and delicious! Of course coffee is always bottom less. They also sell their own hot sauces! my favorite is the papa bear sauce I believe it's a spicy habanero sauce and it's so good but it could be spicer imo! Overall I had a good experience. Another phenomenal visit at Black Bear Diner this weekend! The meals ordered were so incredibly fresh, ample portions, and textures were on point! My mom ordered a meal with eggs over medium, ham steak, and upgraded chocolate chip pancakes. I ordered Classic Eggs Benedict with country potatoes and fruit. Upon request, I was even provided an extra side of delicious hollandaise sauce. Our server did a wonderful job, and there were additional staff that checked on us as well. One of the highlights of our visit was truly feeling welcomed and appreciated by the manager, Emilee. When our family would visit, we would look so forward to seeing her as our server. So personable, thoughtful, and efficient- we seriously would consider Emilee as a main reason to come to Black Bear Diner. Fast forward to now, she is now ensuring that this lovely restaurant is maintained with service, quality, and care. Much better than other franchise family style restaurants. Very friendly and attentive servers. Nice environment and atmosphere. Can mix and match meals, a big plus for me as I have specific items I prefer over what usually comes with an entree. Salt and pepper grinders on the table is a nice touch other restaurants should adopt. There's a big difference between ground salt and pepper and freshly ground salt and pepper a lot people miss out on. Entree was very good but the potatoes (real) weren't hot and the country gravy was bland. No other complaints. Good portion to price ratio. Definitely a go back to place for me. read more

This is such a cute place! Decorated like a cozy cabin there are bears everywhere. A dessert case up front lets you see the sweet treats available for taking home and there is seating if the restaurant is busy enough to have a waiting period. We were seated right away and got our drinks immediately, since we were waiting for a third person we held off on ordering and the waitress came right back when our party member appeared. We got chicken fried steak, an omelette and bread pudding French toast and everyone enjoyed the meal! We'll be back for sure. One of our favorite "comfort food" places. read more

The environment is always bubbly and loud at this establishment, so if you're looking for a quiet space- do not come here. If you love great conversation, a nice space after church, and great food then this is your go to spot. Take into account that it gets very busy during breakfast. My introduction to Black Bear Diner was in Las Vegas about 7 years ago. It was one of the best breakfast spots I've ever been to & this Fresno location is the same. We've been in Fresno for 6 days & today is our third breakfast here. First, the have one of the best unsweetened teas in America & these sweet crème pancakes are second to none. Bacon is crispy, not greasy, & never burnt. Really, the only downside is their hash browns are not good. They need to kidnap a hash town cook from Waffle House. Service is quick but unobtrusive & their desserts rival those of Perkins or Village Inn. Not the cheapest place in down but you get an excellent meal for your money. 4-stars. read more

My mom and I went two days in a row, a couple weeks ago because the food was excellent the first day. She had the little less dinner with pot roast, while I had the Santa Maria steak. I didn't care for the taste of the garlic butter I believe is on it but that's a personal preference, I just don't like garlic type stuff, but aside from that I still ate it and our lunch was great. Mine came with the option of a soup which was chicken noodle and one of the best chicken noodle soups I've tried. Definitely recommend that. Customer service was excellent as well our server was kind, she came back to check on us multiple times, even suggested dessert which we weren't thinking about but glad we got, the brownie Sunday was really delicious. The next day we went back and my mom got the fish and chips, while I got the pot roast but the classic size dinner, and it was a big portion. It also came with the soup option, this day was the broccoli cheese soup, not bad. The server was just as kind and friendly as the last day, he checked on us multiple times. I can't say I really had any thing negative to say towards the food, or staff. And I really love the look and the feel of the inside of the place, the atmosphere is peaceful and decorated well. My coffee was akin to dirty lukewarm water, My friend had eggs benedict with avocado. She tried to give me the avocado. It was very very old .. Very friendly server. Nice and quiet compared to other places. Food was ok. I had the open face turkey plater with green beans. The turkey was sliced thin probably to use in other sandwiches. They heated the turkey up in a salamander (sp) so some of it was overcooked, that was the downside of this meal. Beans were really tasty. It comes with fries, and I asked for an additional side of chili. I ended up with chili only. But when I mentioned it, she got the fries to me quickly. My hubby's sandwich came out wrong, but they quickly remade it. This could have been a problem if he had a food allergy, but it was just something he strongly dislikes. We were greeted as we entered and were seated after just a few minutes wait on a Sunday morning around 9am. In Fresno, you have to come early or you'll be waiting 30 minutes, doesn't really matter the place. Anyway, we had great service from our waitress even though the dining room was full. My coffee never got cold because it was refilled often, nice. I didn't order my standard biscuits and gravy because I remembered theirs were that lighter airy style I don't care for, so I went for a scramble which came with a biscuit on the side. That biscuit was DELICIOUS! Yes light and airy but somehow also fluffy and dense but not in a bad way. It came with real butter that I slathered on with orange marmalade. Oh, man, do I need to come back for biscuits and gravy. My scramble was fine, lots of fillings not just potatoes. So much that I would have liked more egg haha. My husband also enjoyed his plate. The waiter served us in accurate time and order. The food cost was reasonable for the area. Since we are a military veteran family I asked if they have an offers for senior citizens or military service. They do offer discounts just asked them do you be shy.
