Chicken & Fried Shrimp & Chicken Combo and Fried Fish (Meal)
Jay S.

Place is warm and welcoming with friendly service. Food was delicious. Ordered the chicken and shrimp meal with chili beans and potato salad and my wife had the fried fish with the baked beans and mac and cheese. Chicken was light and crispy and the chili beans had a good spice to them.

In town again. Tried the food - same as before, chicken and fish combo, again! Delicious again! This time however, the delivery was speedy and the food was fresh and soulfully good. No delays or long wait as before. So, I had to come back to give the all the stars

Oxtails with Potato Salad, Mac&Cheese

I didn't get to feel the ambiance because I ordered thru DoorDash. I ordered the smothered oxtails with a side of cornbread, Potato salad, and Cheesy Mac. Delivery was fast because the oxtails are prepared ahead of time for the Wednesday special. The oxtails were tender and smothered in a brown gravy, potato salad was okay and the Mac cheese had a thick layer of cheese crust on top. The cornbread was dry af, just kinda crumbled. The oxtails reminded me of my mom's beef stew so yes you get that home cooked meal feeling with this dish. I think if you ever miss your mom's cooking, this is the dish. Maybe that's the real meaning to soul food, home cooked meals by mama:)

Recently been coming here for their oxtail plate!! It had me coming back again days later for the same plate lol they only serve it on Wednesdays and Sundays. Omg they sure know how to do em right. Sucked the meat off them bones. lmao it was so tender! And it comes with rice and gravy.. two sides and cornbread. I always get greens and Mac n cheese. Both really good! Cornbread Is ok.. crumbled quickly but it's still being ate! Also got banana pudding for dessert as well as peach cobbler. Both were equally delicious but the banana pudding is the clear winner!!! Love the layers of nilla wafers, banana slices and whip cream. My bf got a 3 meat plate with the same sides. He smashed on his plate! The food was smackin!!! Service is great as well!! He remembered me from last Sunday I came back Wednesday for the same thing lmao this is my only go to spot now for oxtails!!

Saw the amazing reviews about this place on Yelp so had to try. I thought the whole menu would be available daily. A little disappointed that they didn't offer gumbo. Service was meh. Originally was brought the wrong food. Once we got our food, we really liked it. I got the fish and chicken combo. Was good, but between my wife and I, all the chicken was legs. Son got the ribs and hot links. He enjoyed it as well. Cornbread was dry. Would come here again but wouldn't go out of my way.

Someone told me about this spot and they haven't even tried it, but been hearing good things about it. We were on this side of town and I said ooo let's try this place. We were greeted and got our order in. We ordered 3 plates (oxtail over rice, fried fish, and fried chicken). We loved everything. All of our sides were delicious. I loved the flavor of the baked beans and yams. The potato salad was good too. I didn't get to try the corn bread but can only imagine how good that is too. Staff were kind! We will be back.

This highly-rated soul food restaurant has daily specials, weekend BBQ, and combination platters, and does deliveries. Rhapsody's is also a popular choice for take-out orders. I noticed many more orders for take-out than for those who chose to dine in, like the two times I did here. The sticky dining tables and worse, sticky and slippery floors may have to do with this. The griminess of the restaurant might turn off patrons. There are some clear hit-and-misses with the dishes. The fried fish was my favorite dish here. The skin was crispy, lightly seasoned, and juicy, and the meat was firm but flaky inside. The baked candied yams were perfect, not too sweet, bright orange, cinnamon-spiced, moist, and tender. Sadly, I am not a fan of their fried chicken. I ordered it for both of my two visits. The meat was a little dry and dark - probably from frying it in the same old cooking oil - and I did not care for the mild seasoning. The skin was also very oily. The collard greens and cabbage mix had too many onions, overwhelming the taste and texture of it. Going into a manageable amount of detail for a three-star rating is fine. What I like here: fried fish, yams, BBQ beans, mac n' cheese, Kool-Aid available during the summer months. What I didn't like: fried chicken, mixed greens, sticky and slippery floors. The owner/manager of the restaurant is very nice and appreciates all the business. A few dishes - namely the shrimp and grits on Fridays, and the oxtail special on Wednesdays and Sundays have me enticed to try them in the future.

Friendly service, clean place, easy to find and daily specials. Food was tasty, good temperature and fulfilling.

Lemon cake bottom :( burnt sad face for me

I have heard absolutely nothing but amazing things about this restaurant. Unfortunately, it was kind of a miss for us. Everything was seasoned so well the chicken and the shrimp the fish so crispy and delicious potato salad with savory the cornbread was out of this world, but unfortunately, the lemon cake was beyond burnt and uneditable. I did call the restaurant to let them know and spoke to a very, very kind gentleman who appreciated the information. everybody has an off night, unfortunately it was with the lemon cake.

Here with my coffee group needing some good comfort food. We came on a Thursday and hoping to get some oxtail soup but only available on Wednesday and Sundays. Other than that each of us ordered from the menu. Excellent service upon entering and the hostess offered great suggestions for your meal. I ordered the garlic butter shrimp with rice and a side of macaroni n cheese. Best mac n cheese yet. The shrimp was tender and delicious with the green onions and cilantro as toppings. A welcoming dining area with individual booths and open tables for larger parties. I'll be back to try their oxtail soup next. Located on the southeast corner of Shaw and Feland.

Found this place near a coffee shop we were going to. Was really excited to see a place that served southern food. Boyfriend got the triple plate with fried chicken, fried fish, and fried shrimp. Sides were Mac n cheese and potato salad. I had the special for the day which was oxtail. My sides were greens and yams. Both plates came with corn bread. Food overall was amazing. Very much southern comfort. Lots of food, had enough to take home. It's a mom and pop shop. Would absolutely recommend giving it a try.

3piece,one spicy and two regular, Mac n cheese and the greens. Each meal comes with a cornbread.

The food was absolutely scrumptious! I couldn't even wait to dive in to grab a photo. I got the 3piece,one spicy and two regular, Mac n cheese and the greens. Each meal comes with a cornbread. Which was nice and buttery. It's totally comfort food! The seasonings were satisfying and flavorful. Customer service was pleasant as well!

When you walk in you are greeted with a cozy area with a few tables and an open kitchen to the left side, all of the tables were occupied when we got there but luckily one opened up right after we got there. One thing I will mention upfront, and this is NOT a complaint; if you are in an impatient person who wants to be served immediately, don't come here. There isn't a lot of staff and ordering and food takes a bit of time, I think thats just fine, plus the food is worth the wait! I got the shrimp po boy with yams and mac and cheese, my mom got the fried chicken with pilaf and potato salad. The po boy was delicious, the mac and cheese was good, and the yams were absolutely fantastic. The fried chicken was even better, and I'm sad I didn't get it if I'm being honest! It was some of the best fried chicken I have ever had, second only to my Grandma's fried chicken. I can see why this place was rated as one of the 30 best black owned restaurants in the country. IN THE COUNTRY. I also got a slice of their peach cobbler to take home and share with my wife, and once again, it was one of the best pieces of peach cobbler I've ever had, and once again, second only to my Grandma's. The top crust was especially delicious, I am not sure what they did but it was fantastic! I am sad that I hadn't made it before today, but I am definitely gonna be back and will be bringing as many people as I can to Chef Paul's.

Spicy cabbage - it was not spicy it was sweet and gooey and it was not good 6. Cornbread - a bit burnt for our liking 7. Lemon pudding cake - this was decent but also overly sweet. By the time we left the staff warmed up to having people there. They also charged 2 dollars for water which I thought was not okay. Water should be free at any restaurant. We paid 6 dollars for koolaid as well which is very high but it was good. Our entire bill was 46 and I feel like for what we got it wasn't a good deal. The restrooms were disgusting. From the moment we walked in, Cindy and the entire team at The Berrock Shop welcomed us with genuine kindness and warmth. It's clear they care deeply about the experience they create for every customer. The food was delicious, thoughtfully prepared, and exactly what we needed after being on the road. But what truly stood out was the hospitality. It's rare to find a place where you feel less like a customer and more like family, and that kind of experience stays with people. This is actually my very first Yelp review, which hopefully says something about how strongly I feel about this restaurant. I will gladly go out of my way to stop here again. And for those who live in Fresno, I would absolutely encourage you to support this local business. The sauce was quite delicious itself, with just the right amount of sweetness and spice. The pulled pork was dressed in a "sweet and sassy" sauce, which was rather tangy. It seemed to be more of a vinegar based sauce. The coleslaw was also on the tangy side. The bun was slightly toasted as well, a nice added touch. Next on the list, hush puppies. They were great!
