The food was perfect and I made sure I asked about the dessert menu because I love creme brûlée and theirs did not disappoint. More like a 3.5, but giving them the benefit of the doubt. We came in on a Thursday evening and the place was packed. The host asked if we minded sitting at the bar. We don't mind that at all (sometimes you get better service!). BUT, when we walked to the bar, there was only one seat. We started to leave and let the host know there wasn't room. No big deal, we could try somewhere else. Immediately he pulled out 2 menus and had seating. He was holding out on a 4 top. Alrighty then. Note - the place cleared out pretty fast and only 1 table of 2 was seated after us. This is a very small place and only 2 servers were working. They were a bit in the weeds when we were first sat, but as tables cleared out they recovered. Our server was very polite and as he recovered from the rush, he became more attentive. Standard steakhouse menu here, though a little on the pricier side. I started with a wedge salad (no egg) and hubby had the Caesar. I was a little put off that you have to order and are charged $1 per person for bread. We ordered it, but only got 2 rolls total. You'd think by charging for it, they would keep it coming. But alas, no. The wedge was a perfect size to start (for the price though, I would have expected a larger size). Lots of yummy blue cheese crumbles, though the house made dressing itself lacked much blue cheese flavor. Hubby said his half Ceasar was pretty standard. I ordered a filet, mid-rare and hubby had the strip, rare. Unfortunately, my filet was very rare and the strip came out mid-rare bordering on medium. Not sure if the orders got mixed up, or the kitchen was struggling to get the correct temps. It was OK for us (we just switched plates), but might not be for other diners. What was really really good was my loaded baked potato! Super fluffy and definitely loaded. All in all, not a bad experience at all. Just not very memorable. I came here for HH on a Friday. The location is in a strip mall on Great Neck and is much smaller then the oceanfront location but I am sure the rent is WAY cheaper. I sat at the bar and was alone for about 10 minutes before my friend showed up. Ashley was the bartender and she deserves 10 stars. So friendly, I felt like I was talking to a friend immediately. She made recommendations and knew about the history of the restaurant. I was drinking wine, so was my friend. Wine is $5 on HH. I ordered the potato skins and a HH french dip and my friend ordered the wings and brussell sprouts. The potato skins were so good - not like your typical "bar food." They were better. The French Dip was delicious for $5!!! Quality. The Greek wings were so good and crispy. I loved the seasoning and they came with a tzatziki sauce which was very fresh. I enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, the old photos of VB on the wall and I enjoyed Ashley. I also met Tony who was also very friendly. For dinner this would be a special occasion place but I can definitely do HH. on a random weeknight and walk out with delicious food in my belly. read more

I've never eaten at a restaurant where the drinks had more flavor than the food. My husband and I finally went to Black Angus tonight for dinner. The customer service was great. Our waiter was this older black man and he was absolutely amazing. Pleasant, kind, informative and genuinely enjoyed his job. For our appetizers we ordered the meatball slider, chicken wings and the Rockefeller oysters. You get one slider - FYI. It was actually decent. The oysters were decent too. The chicken wings - wow! They were identified as fried Greek flavored wings BUT absolutely no flavor was found. They were also dry. Then for our meals, I had the NY Strip and mashed potatoes. My husband had the Ribeye, loaded mashed potatoes, broccoli and he added a crab cake. We even added the mater'd butter. Nothing changed the flavor profile. They just slapped the steak in the skillet and that's it. There was no prep. No marinating. No salt. No pepper. No garlic. No nothing. The mashed potatoes were also bland. Smooth and velvety finish but everything tasted the exact same. Bland. I wanted this establishment to be soooo good, but it was a huge let down. I will not be returning. My family and I had been wanting to try this restaurant for quite some time due to the menu selections. We visited on 8/21/24 to celebrate a birthday. There were 5 of us and we were seated in a nice corner booth. That's about where the positives of our experience end. Service was not bad but was a bit slow. We started with appetizers and soup. The calamari had a very odd smoky flavor which is not what you'd expect from a fried item. Later the same flavor was present in the fries leading me to believe that either the oil desperately needed to be changed or something was in the fryer being cooked into carbon all day. The French onion soup was fantastic. It was the only good thing to come to our table. My sister took one bite of her scallops and chose not to finish any of the rest due to the taste and consistency. My wife had a French dip and it was the saddest, thinnest, most unappetizing looking French dip I've ever seen. She too took a few bites and gave up on eating it. My father had the burger and he ate about half of it. He had no specific complaint but was clear it was not a very flavorful burger. My stepmother had the steak and it was a VERY fatty cut filled with gristle and low on flavor. I tried a bite of it and was thoroughly disappointed. Finally I ordered the special, baby back ribs. I am a big fan of ribs and asked several questions before deciding to order them. The flavor of the sauce was fine but they were a bit tough and very dry. They were so dry they took all the moisture out of my mouth with my first two bites. I consumed about two ribs before throwing in the towel on trying to eat them. They tasted like they had been cooked 2 days prior and were simply warmed up. The only thing enjoyable was the soup. Most of the dishes presented well but had terrible flavor or were dry or rubbery. 5 people $359 before tip. Not one entree was enjoyed. My advice would be to skip this place. They spent a lot on the decor but the food is not remotely of the quality that the pricing should dictate. read more

New restaurant to us. Decided to try them during restaurant week. We arrived about five minutes prior to our reservation and were promptly seated. My wife and I both tried the $55 menu and ordered steak for the main course. Appetizers (meat balls) came out readily and were quite tasty!. Our steaks came out a while later and our orders were served to us in reverse. The waiter who took the order and delivered them knew we ordered different temperatures. We switched plates and my wife's steak was too under cooked for her. Her steak was returned to the kitchen and came back a bit later. When the waiter asked how it was, she stated it was over cooked and showed him. He stated, "We knew you wanted it more well done." No, she ordered it medium, not well done. It initially arrived more medium rare than medium. I ordered medium rare and while it initially landed at her place, it was at the proper temperature for me. On a somewhat positive note, the deserts were fantastic even though the coconut cake (her favorite) was unavailable. I had high hopes we had found a really good steak restaurant, but am now quite disappointed. The service was a bit slow. At this price point, I expected better from the kitchen and at the table. Well. We went here last week. Our oysters rockafella were very sad. Lots of spinach on them. But the oysters under neath very sad. I had three. Two of which were the size of my pinky fingernail. My meal wasn't great either. Walked out to our vehicle to leave and someone had puked right beside our vehicle. Tiny but mighty! Delicious wedge salad came split between us as requested. I got the calf's liver and it was good but not the best I ever had due to being too thin but it was tasty. The Mac and cheese was pretty amazing! Hubby got the shot ribs that were enormous and tender. He opted to add on the caramelized onions that were delicious. We went there to eat and spent $200. The steak was terrible, it was full of fat and gristle, and was about 1/4" thick if that. The potato was flat and weird looking. The crab dip was OK and there were chunks of crab in it, however, they were served with sweet potato type potato chips, which completely did not go with the flavor at all. They offer five cocktails total most of which are whiskey and scotch. It is 98° outside and there are no refreshing cocktails on the menu. The waitress seemed like she was in the space layer and did not know what was going on. All told the food was horrible and it had an absolutely horrible presentation. We'll never go back there again. My date had a ribeye steak which he ask for it to be cooked medium but it was cooked less then that & his food was not hot either & the steak was very fatty. We were looking forward to going to this restaurant for my friend's birthday. I should have known that things were going to bad because the server brought our salads before she even took our dinner orders. We order 3 black angus ribeyes and I ordered the flounder since after all we do live in Virginia Beach. Everyone-after some time- received their dinner-1. My flounder tasted unlike any fish I've ever had before drowning in butter and some uncomplimentary seasoning. 2. I watched as the others struggled to cut their steaks. My friend gave me a bite of hers and it was THE TOUGHEST piece of meat I've tried to chew. 3. My husband's steak was not cooked to order -medium rare- it came out burnt on the outside and absolutely raw in the middle. The server took it back to be cooked some more- after 10 or so minutes it came back more burnt on the outside and STILL raw in the middle. Ridiculous- after some time the server did comp our 2 dinners. However we never saw the manager- no one came to apologize instead we received the check and the server put the other couple's dinner wrong by putting the more expensive steaks- which she did correct.
