I came here for HH on a Friday. The location is in a strip mall on Great Neck and is much smaller then the oceanfront location but I am sure the rent is WAY cheaper. I sat at the bar and was alone for about 10 minutes before my friend showed up. Ashley was the bartender and she deserves 10 stars. So friendly, I felt like I was talking to a friend immediately. She made recommendations and knew about the history of the restaurant. I was drinking wine, so was my friend. Wine is $5 on HH. I ordered the potato skins and a HH french dip and my friend ordered the wings and brussell sprouts. The potato skins were so good - not like your typical "bar food." They were better. The French Dip was delicious for $5!!! Quality. The Greek wings were so good and crispy. I loved the seasoning and they came with a tzatziki sauce which was very fresh. I enjoyed the food, the atmosphere, the old photos of VB on the wall and I enjoyed Ashley. I also met Tony who was also very friendly. For dinner this would be a special occasion place but I can definitely do HH. on a random weeknight and walk out with delicious food in my belly.

New York Strip, mashed potatoes, mater'd butter

I've never eaten at a restaurant where the drinks had more flavor than the food. My husband and I finally went to Black Angus tonight for dinner. The customer service was great. Our waiter was this older black man and he was absolutely amazing. Pleasant, kind, informative and genuinely enjoyed his job. For our appetizers we ordered the meatball slider, chicken wings and the Rockefeller oysters. You get one slider - FYI. It was actually decent. The oysters were decent too. The chicken wings - wow! They were identified as fried Greek flavored wings BUT absolutely no flavor was found. They were also dry. Then for our meals, I had the NY Strip and mashed potatoes. My husband had the Ribeye, loaded mashed potatoes, broccoli and he added a crab cake. We even added the mater'd butter. Nothing changed the flavor profile. They just slapped the steak in the skillet and that's it. There was no prep. No marinating. No salt. No pepper. No garlic. No nothing. The mashed potatoes were also bland. Smooth and velvety finish but everything tasted the exact same. Bland. I wanted this establishment to be soooo good, but it was a huge let down. I will not be returning. It tasted like food in an old folks home BUT with a much higher price.

Dry ribs. Oddly smoky tasting fries, terrible Mac and cheese, fantastic soup bowl in the back.

My family and I had been wanting to try this restaurant for quite some time due to the menu selections. We visited on 8/21/24 to celebrate a birthday. There were 5 of us and we were seated in a nice corner booth. That's about where the positives of our experience end. Service was not bad but was a bit slow. We started with appetizers and soup. The calamari had a very odd smoky flavor which is not what you'd expect from a fried item. Later the same flavor was present in the fries leading me to believe that either the oil desperately needed to be changed or something was in the fryer being cooked into carbon all day. The French onion soup was fantastic. It was the only good thing to come to our table. My sister took one bite of her scallops and chose not to finish any of the rest due to the taste and consistency. My wife had a French dip and it was the saddest, thinnest, most unappetizing looking French dip I've ever seen. She too took a few bites and gave up on eating it. My father had the burger and he ate about half of it. He had no specific complaint but was clear it was not a very flavorful burger. My stepmother had the steak and it was a VERY fatty cut filled with gristle and low on flavor. I tried a bite of it and was thoroughly disappointed. Finally I ordered the special, baby back ribs. I am a big fan of ribs and asked several questions before deciding to order them. The flavor of the sauce was fine but they were a bit tough and very dry. They were so dry they took all the moisture out of my mouth with my first two bites. I consumed about two ribs before throwing in the towel on trying to eat them. They tasted like they had been cooked 2 days prior and were simply warmed up. The only thing enjoyable was the soup. Most of the dishes presented well but had terrible flavor or were dry or rubbery. 5 people $359 before tip. Not one entree was enjoyed. My advice would be to skip this place. They spent a lot on the decor but the food is not remotely of the quality that the pricing should dictate.

Give this place a try!! Fantastic! We went to happy hour for dinner and it was incredible. Had the best meat loaf ever. Our party had steak and it was perfect as well. My granddaughter wanted cherries for her drink. They just ran out of them and they went to the store and got more! Was so sweet and appreciated the extra mile for service. Totally impressed.

    Filet, baked potato and broccoli

YUM! the Michael's salad was so delicious and the steak was cooked perfectly. I also tried a bite of the chicken that was to die for!! highly recommend

Great meal! The service is great and the dining area is very pleasant. Steak, chicken, and crab dip were all delicious.

And the food only paled in comparison to the service. I'm not sure if Alvaro is the owner or related to the proprietor--it's obvious he LOVES his job, he was engaging and knowledgeable and his recommendations were spot on. He suggested the Mezze platter as our appetizer (I ended up eating it as my entire meal). He also was so animated and excited about the buttery sauce that was used in the process of making the lamb chops, we ordered both purely because he was so confident we would like them. And that is where he made his mistake--we didn't LIKE them; we LOVED them! The lamb was cooked to perfection. The appetizer platter was an explosion of flavors--and trust me, the falafel alone is worth the trip back. All too often, falafel is made with the premise that bigger is better. Falafel can taste gummy and dry if it made too large. Baladi had mastered the perfect falafel. They make them small, crunchy and flavorful. Hands down, it was my favorite. And then I tasted the babaganouush! Oh my, my, my! I didn't think the falafel had competition, but that babaganouush nearly melted in my mouth. Look for me when you visit here because Baladi is my new favorite restaurant.

The ambience was beautuful; the noise level subdued. Let's start with the appetizers. The three of us shared the Homemade Mozzarella, Tomato and Basil as an appetizer. Drizzled with olive oil, the taste was fantastic; just enough for the three of us. Fresh basil, beautiful red tomatoes cut thickly and a generous portion of mozzarella cheese (four (4) slices). The mozzarella was delicious, devid of that store-bought taste. Pre-dinner drinks were a pinot grigio wine, an applewtini and a vodka martini. Drink sizes were generous. Our server was Kayla, a delightful young lady who walked us through the specials and brought out the freshly-baked bread with butter (and replaced them a few moments later). She checked in on us throughout the meal; just often enough to make sure we were doing OK but no so often as to be annoying. Bravo. My wife's aunt ordered the Steamed Old Bay Shrimp (which shows as an appetizer but ordered for a single person is the size of a meal, and then some). She was thoroughly pleased with her dinner. My wife opted for the special flounder dish. This dish was accompanied by a butternut squash, halved and baked with butter, and roasted potatoes. My wife was impressed with the meal. I ordered the Black Angus NY Strip, medium rare. It came with the same sides as did my wife's dinner. My steak was done perfectly and very, very tasty. No need for a steak sauce here to make it tasty. I was very impressed with the portion sizes. Laura, the Manager on duty, stopped by at our request and we expressed our appreciation and our positive reviews of the food an service. She was pleasant and spent a few minutes conversing with us. Stuffed as we were, we managed coffee and my wife and I split a Warm Apple Tart. The coffee was hot and medium roast strength and the tart was done in a layered dough style and it was fabulous. Ad to this free valet parking (tips appreciated) and this night was one I will look forward to repeating when I visit next. My thanks to the entire staff, in front of and behind the scenes of The Coastal Grill.

Coastal Grill is one of only a few restaurants in this area where we felt that we were ripped off, sickening. The service was acceptable, however it took a long time to get the food. The only thing going for this restaurant is the ambiance.

5 STARS -- A Standout Mediterranean Street Food Gem in Virginia Beach…read more My experiences with Mr. Sharma go back to their original Norfolk location, where I first met their personable owner, Avi and partner Tal. Both are incredibly skilled at what they do. Their passion for Mediterranean street food shows in every detail of the operation. I've now visited the new Beach location on Laskin Road several times, and each visit reinforces just how impressive this business is. Last year, Avi even gave me a tour of the back of the house. It's state-of-the-art--spotless stainless steel everywhere, top-tier equipment, and a layout that shows real thought and pride in the craft. Parking when busy can offer challenges, but I had no issue. They offer a clean dining room to enjoy your food inside, or on a nice day alfresco on their patio. Customers self bus their tables. On my most recent visit, I ordered Avi's favorite dish, the chicken shawarma in a pita pocket. Outstanding--easily one of the best versions I've had that's loaded with humus, slaw, fries and their in-house sauces. I also met the general manager, Melissa, who was warm, friendly, and clearly invested in maintaining the high standards of freshness that make this place shine. She mentioned that Avi is back in Israel but still travels often, which tracks with the care and consistency the team maintains. I also had samples of their amazing falafel and egg plant which is like candy...yum! The Virginia Beach restaurant itself is clean, bright, and incredibly well put-together. A detail most people will miss, but shouldn't--is the noise-reducing ceiling panels. It's the kind of thoughtful touch that tells you the owners think about every part of the customer experience. Mr. Sharma is one of the most overlooked fast-casual restaurants in Virginia Beach, and frankly, it shouldn't be. This is a long overdue review and it's an easy five stars from me. If you haven't visited their new Laskin Road location yet, you're missing out. Mr. Shawarma holds a special place in my heart and cannot recommend enough.
