Before hitting the beaches in the Outer Banks I stopped here to grab a few things. One request for my stop was to get a cake and I definitely made my way back to the bakery section. Grabbed a quarter sheet cake that was premade and was set on that front. I continued to look around as I wanted to grab some snacks for the week I was to be there. I went up and down the snack aisles and grabbed what I though was appropriate. I also went to check out beach gear and could kick myself for not purchasing here. But you live and learn. I will say, I hit this place right after it opened for the day. This made for a really great stop as there were not too many people in here. It made for a quick stop and allowed me to freely browse. I also used the app to scan and pay. I only ended up purchasing four items in total, but it was the way to go. If there were a negative star I would give that to them. I put in an order for a pick up at the Hampton store yesterday 4/8. It was to be ready at 1 to 2. I waited for the text and looked to see they changed it to 3-4. I looked at 4 and they changed it to 7-8. I looked at 8 and they changed it to 9-10 4/9. Still nothing. They changed it to 1-2. It's now changed AGAIN to 3-4. I called to find out what was going on and was told that the person in charge had to leave early yesterday. I asked if they had only one person to pick the products and was told, "yes". Give me a break. One person for the whole store to do that one job? Please. I must have stupid written on my forehead. When people think of BJs, I chuckle at that and imagine if I was to say that aloud to someone. Anyway many people think of it as a third place wholesale club when compared to the others. One thing I will say that BJs may not have the amount of items or presence of the other stores but I will say it is one of the cleanest and best organized of the wholesale clubs. This could be perhaps because it does not try to carry everything on the planet and also because it does not have the foot traffic when compared to Sam's or Costco. Each of these places have their own quirks that make them special and a favorite for people to shop at such as the food court, specific brands, and varying other services. I enjoy the customer service at BJ's. I renewed my membership and about a month later I received a coupon to take $30 off the membership fee. I have been to other places and it is a hit and miss at what you can get done in situations like this but absolutely no problem with BJs. The customer help desk had no problem with me getting an adjustment and I asked for it to be applied to a gift card. Usually some places will spend more time and effort telling you no as a way of really saying "I don't know" but luckily not here. Great service at BJ's that keep the customers coming. read more

I've been coming to BJ's for years. My rule for wholesale clubs is that I go to the one closest to my house. What can I say? I have twin boys, so I'm running through food like it is free. I know exactly were to go when I walk in the door. Detergent, milk, creamer, cereal coffee, grapes, toilet paper, caprisuns, chicken thighs etc. I also purchased at least 3 HD TVs from there over the past 11 years. I can tell you where to go to find almost anything you want in that store. Most recently I was there at the tire center. I had a flat tire that I had to change at the Kroger around the corner. I rode on my doughnut over to BJ's around 6 that evening. The technician working that day had just finished with another customer when I pulled in. She came out, inspected the tire for the cause of the leak, asked me a few questions and then went to work. $15 and 15 minutes later I was on my way home. The tire service center was filled with the most incompetent tire people I've met in my entire life. I've worked at a tire shop and have been to many tire shops in my 25 years of driving. First, sold me tires that were discontinued because the guy said they didn't have the updated ones I wanted. Only to get a call an hour later saying they did in fact have them for me to come get a refund (cc so you know that's a few business days) and purchase the ones I originally wanted because they were in stock. Second, they had a whole issue because they couldn't figure how to use a half size bigger socket to get lug nuts off so I had to let them borrow mine (which conveniently was forgotten to give back until I asked for). Third, didn't put my custom valve stem caps back on that I had to ask for back. Forth, they decided to change out my tire pressure sensors for regular valve stems. I can only assume because they broke them on dismount of the tire due to lack of training on how to recognize tire pressure sensors vs standard valve stems. Fifth, the balance was clearly not done right and I had to take it somewhere else to get all four tires rebalanced because I have zero trust in their competency. If you need tires on your vehicle don't bother going here. They have beyond bad customer service. I made the mistake of buying tires here and they charge you a 20.00 per tire road hazard fee. Which would be fine with me if they actually provided some sort of road hazard service. One of my new tires started leaking air so I ran by there not expecting miracles but hoping to have it looked at by the next day anyways. They told me they were busy and might get around to in two days but don't think so then either. This dude talked to me like they care less about the after care portion. Now I have to take it to Walmart to get looked at. The place where I should of bought tires. Plus to make matters worse, zero people answer the phone at bjs when you call. It's damn near impossible to schedule a tire rotation. I just spent ten minutes on hold and still haven't talked to anyone. The Tire Center NEVER picks up the phone, so you have to go through Member Services who then pages them (?) and then you're lucky if they pick up! I just tried to call a manager and sat on hold until I hung up - they clearly don't want to talk to you or care what you have to say. They thanked me for being a loyal BJ's member. This place is nothing but unprofessional racists. I hope someone takes the time to read this and make an informed decision to spend there hard earned money somewhere else that cares about each of you as their means to a living, and not just the ones that look a preferential way. Hello, I regret having to write this email. I have waited 3 days since the experience, because I wanted to reflect and ensure that I wasn't reacting in the heat of the moment. Unfortunately after 3 days, I feel that this is still relevant to report. For some context of where I'm coming from, I am in charge of operations and quality assurance for a company's customer facing employees totaling roughly 200. I feel that this makes me perhaps not an expert, but at the very least someone that can recognize good customer service when I see it, as well as bad. This complaint concerns your employee named Nina (so she said. I can provide a description if necessary) at the Hampton, VA location: 2000 Power Plant Pkwy, Hampton, VA 23666 In 2019 I allowed my BJ's membership expire for reasons unrelated to any negative experience with your company or services. Recently my wife and I decided it would be a good idea to renew our membership using one of the membership coupons that your company mails us on a weekly basis. This last Sunday, March 13, 2022, we visited your Hampton, VA location to do just that on our way out of town for a day trip. The employee working at the service desk was busy with another couple, and so one of your employees named Nina decided to take care of us so we wouldn't have to wait. That is the end of our good experience. From the very start, Nina was extremely condescending. I made it completely clear what we were there for, and she got very irritable and treated us like an inconvenience when we had very basic questions concerning the questions she was asking us. It turns out that she was trying to upsell us on the membership we were specifically asking for, the offer on the coupon. When I confronted Nina about the tone she was using with us, instead of apologizing and trying to deescalate the situation, she became argumentative and combative with us. I have experienced plenty of good, bad and ugly customer service representatives. People have bad days and I understand that, but never have I had someone double down on their poor treatment of a customer like Nina. I don't know what position this woman holds, but please escalate this to relevant parties within BJ's corporate, and at the very least put her in a position where she does not interact with your customers. You don't need to worry about this customer, because I will be taking my business elsewhere. Something else to add to this already awful situation is that my wife is of Asian descent. She has NEVER said this to me before, but she said that she felt like this woman was treating us differently because of her race. I didn't particularly notice anything unusual, but I'm also not attuned to these things. Perhaps Nina could benefit from some unconscious bias training. I will be sharing my experience whenever and wherever possible. I believe that my neighbors deserve to know what kind of treatment they should expect when visiting this location, and BJ's in general. I had the worst time trying to place an order for my son's birthday cake. I called the bakery 7 different times back to back and received no answer. Finally I called the front and they were able to transfer me to speak with someone in the bakery department. Unfortunately, I didn't ask the woman's name I was speaking with due to her laughing in my ear most of our conversation while I asked questions about pricing and cake designs. Well that happened in between her explaining I should call back the next morning to ask someone else. Needless to say I end up getting my son's birthday cake from Food Lion. I like Bj's, they always have the unique ingredient I need when making special meals. Store is always stocked, decent prices but the selection can be limited at times. Had I taken a moment to "check-in" on Yelp, I would have found out this place had not been reviewed yet, and needed picures. So, I want to firstly start off by apologizing for the lack of pictures taken (as in I took none) right now to all you wonderful fellow yelpers out there...when there is a next time...I will correct my error on that for sure! Let me begin with saying that this BJ's had very helpful efficient staff (I was shopping for our family of 9, so this is no small cart they had to ring up) that knew what they were doing so a person can get in and out as fast as a person can get out of a HUGE Wholesale store that seems limitless in their options of items to choose from. They had a great food selection, and great prices on their organic items as well. I was only their for food items though, so I can only comment on those paticular aisles....but I can say from at least walking by and viewing other aisles, that they keep this place in ship shape order. There are toys, clothes, furniture, electronic items, kitchen items, books, and pretty much anything else you might be looking for. Yes, you do have to be a member to shop here....unless you have a 1-3 day pass or something like that....but you can use not only their store coupons while shopping here (some clipless btw) but manufacturer coupons as well. Thats right, if you actually do plan ahead, you can double up on your savings....NICE!!! Overall, this place is wonderful and so are their workers. Thanks BJ's for being awesome!!! read more

As someone who is a member of and shops at both the Chesapeake and Hampton stores I have to say that this location is much better than the Chesapeake location. In my opinion BJs is better than Sams and not as good as Costco..... To review this BJs location is pretty easy. Although they are much better stocked they fail to keep stocked quite a few items that we purchase on a regular basis. If you cannot find an item it winds up being next to impossible to have an employee give you a straight answer about where or even if it's in the store. The deli window moves very slow and the Subway vendor is not as decent as many Subway strip mall stores. The self checkout is so prone to errors they have one person on station just to reset the equipment and make the problem right. The good is that the store is clean and there is very little mixed up stuff on the shelves (items people put back in random places). Although fairly clueless the employees are friendly and try to be helpful. I seldom buy something and find that it's broken and there are quite a few name brand products. They take all credit/debit cards as well as most coupons. I can also maneuver a shopping cart in the store without having crap in the way like in Sams. read more

Tire center is a scam- they do not honor their own warranty correctly, have appropriate facilities to deal with tire change issues and will hide unsafe conditions with your car from you. Risk management will not call you or return your calls regarding incidents even if contacted directly and messages left with corporate customer service for both club and corporate levels. Snickerish name aside, BJ's is giant wholesale store, like Sam's Club only much better! Their store is huge and have a wide variety of items that you can choose from. Their prices are pretty good on the whole, especially since you are buying in bulk. Occasionly you will find items that are more expensive at BJ's then other places (ex Coca Cola, pringles etc.), but it's generally a good bet that you get the better deal here. It's also worth noting, that if you are BJ's member (especially a premium member) you have access to some of the cheapest gas in the Hampton Roads area. If you drive allot, you can more then pay for the membership with the savings. All in all, it is a fantastic place to shop! I love BJ's....wholesale club! :D read more

I try to avoid this BJs at all costs. This store is notorious for not having shopping carts available, especially when the weather is bad. The employees at the front of the store are not of assistance. This past Monday, once again there were no shopping carts in the store or near the entrance and after asking the greeters where they were, they ignored me twice and then one told me they were outside even though the carts were nowhere near the door. This store is also routinely out of coupon items. I have contacted the store management numerous times and have never received word back from anyone. I will not renew my perk membership because of this store. The BJs in Chesapeake is much better - its worth the extra drive. read more

Absolutely the worst return policy on furniture. I bought two reclining lift chairs from BJ's.com bc of some physical limitations. They lasted two months before they started having problems leaving us in a reclined position to climb out. BJ's.com customer service says the only thing I can do is contact the manufacturer! Their return policy on all furniture is only 30 days. That's absolutely ridiculous. This is the second incident I've had with BJs.com. Last time it was a large flat screen TV During the Black Friday sale. It took me three months to resolve that problem. Now I know why I love Costco warranties- they are so good to their customers. read more

Bj's tire service is the worst on the peninsula. They have a four bay shop with two employees and only one does any actual work. The other one is supposedly a supervisor. My new tires were so far out of balance that I couldn't even drive it on the highway. Then they refused to balance them later because "you need an appointment" even though there was not another vehicle in the bays. An incompetent manager and a "do as I please attitude" staff make this a very bad place for service. Stay far away from here. read more

They have a very big selection of prodcuts and great prices. We got our membership at a discounted rate because they were running a special so that was nice. The only negative, which isn't necessarily BJ's fault, is that it seemed like there were open products EVERYWHERE. Like customers were just going around opening things for some reason. I found a bag of coffee opened and boxes of things opened with items missing. There was a bag of frozen chicken on one of the (non-refrigerated) shelves. Its like that every time I go there. So I would say just check things to make sure they are sealed/intact before buying them. read more

The Hampton BJs is turning into a ghetto BJs. Especially the gas station. The air has been broke the past two times I have visited and rarely are the windshield cleaning fluid full and clean. Inside we are getting more and more of their store brand and less and less name brands. And once you try a brand a few weeks they stop carrying it. read more

I was a member of BJ's wholesale club i enjoyed shopping there but I think I'm going to put my membership elsewhere and that's because they charge to remove a member from you're card which I don't think is fair to the consumer.I joined them because of location .If I'm not mistaken I was told that I would have to pay $25 to have a person removed from my membership .Why can't they do it free of charge?I think I will become a member of Sam's club as well where their membership is cheaper.I might consider coming back to BJ's one day. read more

I enjoy shopping at Bj's . I received phone calls and snail mail about the recall of frozen vegetables. Following the instructions on the letter I went to the customer service dept to get my refund. I took the letter and explained to the tall black guy behind the counter why I was there. He immediately seemed to have an attitude. He acted like he didn't want to check the computer and like I was asking for his personal money. I buy a lot of frozen organic corn, peas, spinach and mixed vegetables from BJ'S. All of the employees have been friendly and helpful. Not this guy. I'm not even sure I received the correct amount of refund because he clearly did not want to do it. so I just took the 20 dollar gift card. Maybe he was saving the rest for himself or maybe it was the correct amt with an attitude. I don't even know why he had such an attitude. I will continue to shop at BJ's because one jerk won't dissuade me. Those types of employees usually don't stay on the job long so I'm sure he will be gone by the next time I go shopping.
