I visited BJ's recently for dinner with a few friends on a Tuesday evening. It was extraordinarily busy that day, as it happened to be during the time of Mexico's World Cup game. The wait alone took about 40 minutes. We were eventually seated at the end of the restaurant, which I actually preferred, as it was a bit quieter and secluded. I ordered the chipotle salmon, and it arrived without too much delay. It was a bit salty for my liking; I recommend ordering the sauce on the side, if that's possible. But for the most part, my dish was okay. My friend's beer was rather flat, though, so that was disappointing. Since it was Tuesday, we also got some pizookies to share! We tried the Chocolate Chunk pizookie and the seasonal S'mores pizookie. The former is a classic for a reason and everything you expect of a cookie. The latter was a surprising crowd favorite, and the marshmallow added a fun texture. Both flavors, however, were very sweet, especially after being decked with a giant scoop of vanilla ice cream. It was a bit of a hassle to pay the bill, as they tried to use this QR code system that was not working with any of our phones. We had to recruit the help of our server, who ended up just ringing it up herself anyway. Very disappointing experience. We had a reservation for 8:15 p.m. for a party of eight and were excited to celebrate together. Unfortunately, the evening turned into nothing but waiting. They were already out of the seasonal drink we wanted, which was disappointing from the start. We ordered six Pizookies for the table, and by 10:00 p.m.--an hour and a half later--they still had not arrived. We ended up leaving without ever receiving them. During that time, our group spent over $53 on sodas and a single appetizer while we sat waiting. What made it even more frustrating was watching tables that were seated well after us receive their food and desserts before we did. There was little communication about the delay, and no sense of urgency to make things right. I understand restaurants get busy, but waiting over 90 minutes for six desserts is simply unacceptable, especially when other guests who arrived later were being served first. It was honestly sad because our group was looking forward to spending time together, and instead we spent most of the evening waiting. I hope management takes a serious look at what happened because no reservation should end with guests leaving without the desserts they ordered after such a long wait. read more

Their $13 weekday meal deal is amazing! I love that you get a full meal plus a mini pizooki! The biggest downside at this BJ's is that they take a really long time to get the food out and at least my server for this particular day was not really attentive. My water was empty but he did not come back to refill it once. I asked for a lid for my sauce but he never brought it so I had to ask someone else to bring it for me. read more

We sailed in with high hopes, eager to celebrate, and were fortunate to secure a table without delay. Yet, the winds of fortune shifted as we awaited our feast, for it took just over an hour for our meals to arrive--a long wait for such a cherished day. When the platters finally graced our table, I found myself hoping for a culinary adventure, but what I discovered was merely okay. The mashed potatoes tasted like the average fare one might find on a weary ship at sea, lacking the flair I yearned for. The Wagyu burger, a treasure I anticipated, turned out to be disappointingly lackluster, failing to deliver the bold flavors that dance upon the tongue. My wife, too, faced a misfortune when her chicken sandwich arrived made incorrectly, a twist of fate that added to our growing discontent. And alas, my water cup bore the marks of neglect, with food residue swirling within and clinging to the sides--an oversight that rubbed me the wrong way, I must confess. To add to my woes, a horrible stomach ache set in after our voyage, leaving me pondering whether it was the water or something else that led to this tempestuous trouble. Yet, in this storm of disappointment, the captain of the establishment, the manager, displayed true grace. With a kind heart, they reduced the cost of our meal by 25%, a gesture that spoke volumes, and offered us a complimentary dessert--a sweet act of class that brightened our spirits. Though the experience left much to be desired in terms of food quality, the management's efforts to smooth the waters were commendable. We stopped by after a game of pickle ball on a Friday evening and it was very busy but we made our way to the bar area and sat outside their bar area patio. Our waitress was great and the service was fast. The food was all so delicious. The menu is very extensive and I need to stop by soon to try more of their tasty food. Basing this off the service, we went today and had Joel V. Outside. I got the burger deal for Wednesdays. He was so attentive and above and beyond. Bjs in person is pretty okay I feel as if these resteraunts are a hit or miss . My advice is NEVER get any pizookie to go because they give absolutely no effort at all. I had gotten one last time and it looked terrible but I thought maybe it was just a bad batch so I got one more but lo and behold it was the same quality . My Mom and I wanted to have lunch today so we decided on BJ's in La Mesa, California. WeI ordered the chicken club sandwich with sweet potato fries. The sandwich itself was good; however, I forgot to ask for the bread not to be buttered, and it ended up quite soggy from too much butter. The sweet potato fries had good flavor, but they were also on the soggy side, so I wasn't able to finish them. My mom ordered the herb-crusted Parmesan chicken with mashed potatoes and asparagus, along with a side salad. She really enjoyed her meal, though the portion was very generous and more than she could finish. She decided to order dessert, which I wasn't planning on having, but I helped with a few bites and then stopped to stay on track with my nutrition plan. This is that restaurant that is a go-to when you really don't know where to go and just want a good dessert. Food is decent. Not great not bad, there have been inconsistencies in taste but we really just come for the pizookies. I know I spelled that wrong. Depending on the day and how busy it is will really affect the quality of customer service. If going for dessert, get a couple and share amongst friends. I came here to have lunch with my daughter and some weirdo server made it a point to tell me that my hand tattoo wasn't going to last? Didn't say hi.. didn't say anything other "oh that tattoo must be new." When I said it wasn't he said "well it won't last, let's see in a year" Tf? I'm not a negative review kinda person, but wow. We checked in at 7:06. We sat down and waited until almost 735 to get any service.. The waiter came and took our order. At 7:47 we still didn't have any drinks. The first one came out at 7:48 and mine finally showed up at 7:54. Our salads showed up at 7:46. Yes, I was so mad. I took exact note of the times I even took pictures. I am so mad I haven't even had my meal yet. The salad was good tho, so hence the 2 stars. I try to be understanding because it's busy but the fact that it took almost an hour to get our fu***** drinks is insane. That's just bad service . We were delightfully surprised. The rare time all 3 of us were happy with our meals! We came on a busy Saturday thinking they had happy hour everyday but that wasn't the case. No problem. Mom had chili with a wedged salad. The chili wasn't too hot - she easily devoured it and her wedge salad. I mean I don't think you could lick the dishes cleaner. Knowing dad doesn't eat a ton these days he ordered the kids chicken tenders and even had a tender to take home. Happy camper. As for me I had eyes on anything ahi but the shrimp with garlic bread screamed. To top it off we had a puzooki trio, 3 mini derp cookies with ice cream. Yummmm! We came in for the Tuesday Pizookie special! The wait to be seated was long, so plan accordingly. The wait to get our pizookie on the other hand was short. It came out almost instantly. It was warm and the ice cream melted nicely. This is one of the bigger BJs I've gone to. The inside is clean and easy to get around. read more

The service here is getting bad. Hard to find a server. Employees pass the buck onto someone else instead of helping. Multiple tables dirty and need to be cleaned. This younger generations work ethic is horrible. It's like they can't think for themselves or take initiative either. I guess I have done reviews all over southern California and even into Arizona; because I love the quality beers, the service and the food. I really enjoy the Happy Hour specials but also enjoy their specials like the $13 Strawberry Fields salad with a pazookie to boot. Today I was on my way home from a business trip so I stopped by and had a beer and my fav Happy Hour dish, the Chicken Pot Stickers. As a beer club member, I love that I can have one beer and its 20 oz instead of the normal 16 oz pour. Today I had my favorite beer the Nutty Brunette. Place is always well designed and I noticed that this bar has the taps on the bar still. Many of my local places have removed them from the front and just have them in the back. I like the look of them up front. There always seems to be a friendly crowd at BJ's and the bar tenders tend to be great at most locations I have been to. read more

Very disappointing service at BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse. At my birthday. The girl serving our table had a very bad attitude and did not seem interested in helping us at all. She was rude, inattentive, and made the whole experience uncomfortable. We had to wait a long time for basic things, and when we asked for help, it felt like we were bothering her. Good service is important when going out to eat, and unfortunately this visit did not meet that expectation. I hope the management takes service more seriously and trains staff to treat customers with respect. read more

I've been to this location a few times and Kirk the parking and that wait time is never too bad. Staff is friendly but each time the food is just mediocre. Not sure why I still come here-maybe the huge menu. The pizookie always hits tho. Recently came on Mother's Day and got the prime rib special for $35. Came with a Cesar salad which was great. The prime rib itself was alright. I mean it was actually a big piece so I suppose worth the price but the flavor was not that and then even cutting it was rough! I got it medium and it just could not cut. It was such a struggle. My sides were asparagus which were also ok and rice pilaf which I didn't not like at all. Very firm and lacking flavor. I didn't try my mans dish except the spaghetti and it tasted fine. Last visit I got a side of mashed potato's which tasted like it came from a box, same with this rice actually. She apologized and offered me a gift card to come back and try the restaurant again .. tonight I took my mother and my daughter out and we had a much better experience, the food was better.. still have a few issues they could work on . As in if you order an appetizer platter to share with other people at your table, they should bring plates prior to bringing the appetizer platter. I Shouldn't have to ask for them after the food's already sat on my table. I felt like our waitress must've known the people in the two seats that were next to us because they seem to get their food quicker than us as well as she kept taking plates and cups off their table, but didn't take any of ours until I mentioned it.. but all in all we left satisfied.. with leftovers and full bellies and a completely different opinion of this establishment. This was the most dirty BJs that I have ever been to. First the menus smelled terrible and sticky. Glass cups and utensils absolutely disgusting. While our waiter was very polite, we unfortunately had hair im my food. I have never been so grossed out by restaurant. The manager did remove the 2 items with hair off our bill. I felt that was an insult along with the casual attitude of an apology. I would NEVER eat her again!!!! Do not eat here. I have been to many BJs before but this place was disgusting. Disgusting food but good service. We ordered a salad and mini deep dish pizza, the pizookie meal combo. The salad was good, but dear God the pizza... it was a doughy pile of mushy veggies and meat. It wasn't cut, it wasn't hot, it didn't even taste fully cooked. We took two bites and had to send it back. Ruined both of our appetites, it was just plain nasty. The Only reason they're getting 2 stars in the service. Our waitress was super nice and the manager was accommodating with our complaints. Both were great. Stopped in for early dinner, seated in bar area as entire restaurant appeared at full capacity. Avery was our server, pleasant throughout our stay. We ordered a glass of red wine, margarita from the happy hour menu 3-7 pm. We also ordered the avocado egg rolls, house salad with blue cheese, sliders and a personal deep dish pizza (bbq chicken). Standout was the avocado egg rolls, lots of avocado, creamy and cooked to perfection. House salad was a solid choice, blue cheese was good too. I did not try the sliders but hubs said they were good as well. Unfortunately the pizza was a bit doughy and because we had waited about 15-20 minutes for our entrees I wasn't about to send it back. Haven't been here in years, but we went back a month ago and life got busy, so here's my review. We ate on the covered outside patio, which was clean and roomy. Service was fantastic. The menu had alot of variety but I knew a good old swiss mushroom burger would fill me up. The food is excellent. My sister loved her greek pita tacos. Her husband tried out a flight of craft beers w his meal. The only one we collectively did NOT like was the Tatonka beer sample. The opinion was that it tasted like used motor oil. This BJs is located in the Grossmont mall. While parking should be plentiful- the mall is pretty busy, so it may take a little patience. Wheelchair friendly. And they have point rewards now, so we got a free desert because my family frequents the Phoenix location. Yay! I do recommend this location and will definitely come here again. read more

So this was my first time dining here, but my gf is very familiar with this chain. We sat at the bar as the restaurant which is very large was busy. We got some drinks, which took a while as the bartenders seemed preoccupied. We got our food order in and it was amazing. The shrimp and bread was amazing. The flavors was popping and the bread made it even better. The potstickers were okay. As for the burger it was pretty good and my gf enjoyed her Alfredo. The food was impressive that we've order it at home since. Give it a try though the menu can be overwhelming. read more

I'm quite shocked this location has low ratings, every time i've been here has always been incredible and pleasing. I've always came here with a large party after my club event, and they are always happy to seat us, the wait is indeed about 45 minutes but we are a large group. -5 stars I really wanted to have an enjoyable dinner. I haven't been to this place in a few years. I was given a gift card from a friend and thought I'd give it another try. WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!! We sat in the bar area and waited.... And waited.... And waited. I finally went and asked the hostess if she wouldn't mind getting us some water and she was sweet enough to accommodate us. Our waitress went to every other table but ours every time she decided to make her rounds. Most of the time she was a disappearing act. I asked her to please adjust the air as it was very cold and I believe she either left it alone or turned it colder. We place our order and then wait...and wait.... And wait. I had ordered a salad before my entree and I ended up cancelling it because it never came out and I didn't want to have to eat my salad while my entree got cold. We tried to get her attention multiple times and she would ignore us. Finally I get my bill and she's got to go back and remove the salad, we wait...and wait...and wait. She brings back the "corrected" bill and added a beer which was never ordered. So she takes it again to correct it and we are finally able to pay and leave this awful experience. This server should not be in customer service, most certainly not on the bar side. She wasn't friendly or accommodating whatsoever. I understand that finding good employees is hard but this will type of employee will eventually cause you to close your doors. Come on BJ's, do better! read more

Food is always great and it's clearly popular as it's always busy. I consistently order my food for pickup and unfortunately, it's always late, by about 15 mins to half an hour beyond the time their app establishes it will be ready. So most of the time, I'm torn between really craving the food here but not wanting to deal with the frustration at pickup. (I still deal with it most of the time, as the service is usually good too, even when I am waiting longer than was projected to me. Tonight I made an error by selecting the Dine In option on my phone. I was attempting to just pay but I inadvertently pushed something else instead. (This is what happens when I try to grab my keys while completing the order at the same time.) While I appreciate that the girl at the desk fixed it for me to make it an order for pickup, she had an attitude of inconvenience, which particularly aggravates me as I also work in hospitality and I tip on my To Go orders. Now here I sit writing this review. It's now half an hour past when my order should've been done. I've got tip money in my hand that I walked in the door with, a headache and I'm seriously debating on just canceling the order entirely. Update: After no further acknowledgment of my time waiting for my order, (I seriously began to wonder if it was actually put in as I was told.) I canceled my order and left. Ended up driving to Denny's over by SDSU instead. (Fave Denny's was already closed by the time I decided to leave BJ's.) read more

Where to begin...We are huge fans of BJ's at other locations. We used to go to the UTC BJ's almost every Friday for a solid 2 years. We aren't proud of this but have likely spent thousands at BJ's. When we moved to La Mesa, we tried to go to the La Mesa BJ's as our new BJ's, but we are 2 for 2 on awful experiences. The first time we went to the La Mesa BJ's, the food was good, but the service was exceptionally slow. What most troubled me is that usually, when the service is that slow, a good server will either send over something free, acknowledge the wait and apologize preemptively, or take something off the bill. None of that occurred. The second time we went to the La Mesa BJ's (today), we had an even worse experience. We went with our 8 month old baby and checked in at 7:05 p.m. We explicitly informed the hostess that we needed a high chair. Upon checking in, we were told, and I quote, "We have a table for you, but we are just cleaning it." If, at this time, they had told us it would take a half hour to get seated, we would have gone elsewhere. However, we never imagined it would take 30 minutes to clean one table. By 7:20 p.m., we still had not been seated, so I checked with the hostess. Upon checking, she said she thought she had a table for us, but that we could not put a high chair there but asked if we could do a booster seat by, which was not really okay given our 8 month old only recently started sitting up, and we DID tell them we needed a high chair. They told us if we needed a high chair (which, again, we had said from the minute we set foot in there), that we would need to wait even longer. At this point, our infant was melting down, and we were about to leave, but by 7:37 p.m. (I know because I took a photo when we were seated of all the empty tables), we were finally seated, meaning it took them 30 minutes "to clean our table." Upon being seated, our server, Julian, was nice as could be. However, there were a few areas where service could have been improved: he brought drinks with no straws, appetizers without bringing appetizer plates, and dessert for 5 adults with only 2 spoons. FOOD: The food was my worst BJ's dining experience ever: 1. Caesar salad - The only good thing; however, usually they come by and ask if you want freshly ground pepper. This did not occur. 2. French fries - These fries were not hot and were, no exaggeration, the worst fries I have ever had. They were also brought without any ketchup or ranch. 3. Prime Rib - Was 50% fat, a weird color, and not a lot of taste 4. Loaded baked potato - Super DRY and did not come with sour cream like usual 5. Roasted vegetables - AWFUL. Super DRY as well and not flavorful. (On other occasions, these have been great.) 6. Butter pasta - Not cooked well and flavorless 7. Pizookies - In all of the times I have been to BJ's, I have never had a complaint about a pizookie, but the pizookies were overcooked so much so that I had to cut one of them with a steak knife just to eat it We informed our server, Julian, of the issues and asked to speak with the manager. The manager was very kind, empathetic, and understanding and reduced our bill by about 50%, which was very nice. Unfortunately, it was not enough to encourage us to ever return. We don't plan on ever patronizing this BJ's location ever again. In sum, absolutely eat ANYWHERE ELSE unless you want terrible food and extremely slow service. read more
