Well... it was a good ride while it lasted. I've been going to BJ's since it opened here in Columbia. For years it was a dependable spot--good food, solid service, and an atmosphere that made it genuinely enjoyable to visit. Unfortunately, that hasn't been the case for quite a while now. BJ's really seemed to suffer during the pandemic, and in my experience it never fully recovered. Since things returned to normal, I've only been a handful of times, and each visit has been progressively worse--while prices have continued to climb. Last night will likely be my final visit. We were seated without cutlery and had to ask someone other than our server because he was rarely around. My drink never arrived; I was simply given a glass of water. The wait for food was over 30 minutes, and when it finally came out it was cold and lacked flavor. After that, it took an unusually long time to get desserts and the check. We were seated at 6:35 PM and didn't leave until 9:00 PM. I truly wish the staff and the business well, but I don't plan to spend my hard-earned money here anymore. read more

When I first encountered BJ's restaurant and brew house, I was thoroughly impressed. They had a very solid quinoa and salmon bowl. Then they messed that up. They had a very good salmon dish, then then they added a flavor (cherry) that made it taste like chemicals rather than flavor. The salmon portions grew smaller and the blackened salmon became overcooked.. They had some amazing dumplings with even more amazing dipping sauce. Then they got rid of the amazing sauce and replaced it with something that is lackluster.. They had a half and half option on deep dish pizza, which is also now not on the paper menu. The ultimate SLAP in the face was getting rid of Sweet Pig as a pizza. It was basically Hawaiian, but better... It amazes me that they have a 10 page menu, and they still manage to butcher all of my favorites... Their corporate offices are out of touch with reality. Whoever was at the entrance when we came in today was very rude to us when we asked to sit at a booth instead of a table. Beers are really good, food is good, service can be hit or miss. If you get Gill or Ray as your server, you will be in excellent hands and do your self a favor and have them help you pick or customize a dish. I have 2 young girls as well and Gill always speaks to them directly and lets them place their order. He is always super patient and makes my girls not feel small at all, but like a valued customer. Over the years they have spilled their drinks at least twice and he was always quick to assist and made them feel OK with making a mistake. BJs is good, Gill makes it great. The food is very inconsistent! However, I do like the service and ambiance at the bar area. We enjoyed the wings and salad. The pizza was atrocious. I just knew it was frozen pizza intended for a small child. It was not as described. The calamari was salty and only enjoyable due to the dipping sauces. I had the barbecue bacon burger and was a little disappointed in the burger itself. It was rather small. Bacon and barbecue sauce added flavor on the undersized patty. Average chain restaurant visually on par with Chili's and way above Applebees. I could say the food was great, but it's not. Some items came out overcooked, some burnt, and some raw. We sat in the bar area for faster service and the bartender was great, matter of fact he saved the experience. The atmosphere in the restaurant was stagnant and dead. I imagine it's because of the inconsistency in their food, or a lazy, non caring kitchen staff. If you are going to cook for others be passionate about it, or find other employment. BJs should just stick to deep dish pizzas and pizookies. I ordered the chicken with crusted Parmesan and it looked good but had zero flavor. The Parmesan didn't even have salt itself. Then when trying to use the salt shakers, both had clumpy salt and their excuse was that the humidity made it that way. I live in humidity, upstate SC, so we're not immune to it, and our salt doesn't clump like that. Plus their place was air-conditioned which by default will lower the humidity inside the building. Just saying. Been to several BJs across the country and this visit at this location was just a total miss. Your location is over two hours away, but we will be going that way more often. This is a great place for American food! Wedge salad was fresh and crisp! I tried the dry rub wings and they were delicious! Our server was super helpful with many selections. Went for lunch yesterday. Seating and service was fine. The prime rib dip sandwich was very gook. My wife's entre was a "chicken wrap". Very little chicken, however - although it was good. However, the fries were over-salty, Both for me and my wife. All we could really taste was the "salt". We should have sent them back - but didn't - short on time. The cookie/cookie dough desert was also too salty. Did not finish that. Suggest if you go here (Mesa/AZ) - Ask/tell waiter to tell cook not to put any salt on food. That ruined our experience. We love coming here they offer lots of different options for everyone. They have amazing gluten-free pizza. There are different games for football fans. We never have to wait long and the staff is welcoming and kind. The best part is the pizza cookie which they also have in GF!!!! We will always be down for coming to BJ's. read more

My family and I went there for a late night dinner. We got there at 10:45 and 15 minutes later we were still waiting for someone to acknowledge that we needed to be seated or even greeted. We started with chips and queso. The chips were pretty salty and tasted a little rancid as if they were cooked in old oil Queso was just ok, not a lot of flavor. We wanted something light so we ordered chicken tortilla soup and chili, both were unremarkable. The tortilla soup tasted like it had a thickening agent for more substance. The server arrived to take our drink order, I got a white peach bobo Rita and my husband got a lemonade, we each also asked for water. We ordered buffalo wings for an appetizer. And compared the menu to what I received and was told sorry our pizzas all arrive frozen and we have no control over how the dough rises...what kind of deep dish pizza uses rising dough? Anyways service was pretty good, my diggiorno didnt taste bad... but I'll grab it from publix next time. This is my first time trying this particular location. My first one was in Charlottesville, VA and the Columbia, SC location did not disappoint. My sister and I decided to give this location a try last Friday since we loved the one in Charlottesville, VA so much. Considering the time of day, we were still able to get in and be seated rather quickly. We ended up sitting in the bar area. Less than 5 minutes after being seated, our waiter came over to the table to take our order. We decided on the buffalo wings and the BJ's Favorite pizza which is the equivalent to a super supreme pizza. The wings came out first which was expected since it was the appetizer. The wings came out smoking hot. These were definitely not microwaveable wings. One order has about eight wings. I wasn't overly thrilled with the wings because of the flavor. I just didn't really care for the flavor of their buffalo sauce. Plus because the wings were a little larger, there were still a few that were still a little too pink. Now, let's get to the real star and the reason for the 1 1/2 drive, the pizza. Baby, that pizza was everything that we remembered and more. The staff literally brought it out five minutes after the wings and it was definitely pizza-ing! The flavor was there and the cheese pull was everything! My family met my in-laws here to celebrate my wife's birthday at BJ's. The service was wonderful! Our waiter did a fantastic job! Everyone said their food was delicious but me. For an appetizer, we ordered the artichoke and spinach dip, which was better than most that I've had. For my entree, I ordered the Slow Roasted Sirloin. The steak was an odd cut and had gristle all through it making it inedible. They replaced it with a delicious cheese steak but it wasn't really what I wanted. The restaurant is 30 minutes away from our house so I wouldn't normally drive that far for supper, but if I was close; I would give them another chance. read more
