Chicken & Waffles

The Grand on Main in Columbia delivers a truly top-tier dining experience, from the ambiance and vibe to the standout food. Clicking of glasses at the bar or the. cheers of bowling pins falling on the lanes in the back, the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels upscale yet inviting, with a stylish, modern Southern aesthetic that's perfect for date night, celebrations, or an elevated night out downtown. IThe energy is lively without being overwhelming giving an upscale sports bar vibe , and the space feels polished, warm, and intentional. We dined during South Carolina Restaurant Week, along with sampling some Grand favorites, and every dish felt thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. The zucchini fries were crisp, light, and perfectly seasoned--addictive in the best way. The fried ribs were a standout, tender on the inside with a flavorful, crispy exterior that delivered bold Southern flavor in every bite. The crispy Brussels sprouts were cooked to perfection--golden, slightly caramelized, and packed with savory goodness. And these were just our appetizers. The entrées were equally impressive. The chicken and waffles struck the perfect balance between sweet and savory, with crispy, well-seasoned chicken paired with fluffy waffles that soaked up the flavors beautifully. My daughter loved the pecans on the side as they were roasted and sweeten like at the candy shops we visit along the lowcountry. The shrimp Alfredo was rich and creamy without being heavy, with tender shrimp and pasta cooked just right. The Southern pork chop with cornbread was exceptional--juicy, flavorful, and clearly a house specialty, with the cornbread adding a comforting, Southern touch that tied the dish together. Service was attentive, professional, and well-paced, enhancing the overall experience without ever feeling intrusive. We came in during a shift change and never noticed the difference. The staff was knowledgeable about the menu and made the evening feel seamless and relaxed. The most interesting thing is the robot delivering food. We see them all the time but definitely appreciate the staff walking behind the machine to deliver as it helps those like us who are particular about germs more secure that everyone is not breathing on food due to just riding on robot. Overall, The Grand on Main lives up to its name. Exceptional food, a vibrant yet refined vibe, and a welcoming atmosphere make this a true five-star destination in Columbia. A must-visit for both locals and visitors looking for elevated Southern dining done right

Came here on a Friday night with a group of 7. Our intention was to eat and the bowl. There was a live musician that was excellent. Our server: Kayla was decent but seemed new or had too many tables. She was kind but curt and rushed. Not in a rude way just not overly friendly. Food: Delicious! The portion sizes are huge. Get the grits! We had salmon, salad, zucchini bites, ribs, hot honey catfish , greens, chips and dip, banana pudding (just ok), cinnamon bites (think churro's). Everyone enjoyed the food Tip: Bowl first then eat. We were too full to bowl after.

We came to The Grand to eat dinner for Valentine's Day. Inside is beautiful! Location is great. We parked in a parking garage nearby but they do have valet if needed. Food was okay overall. I loved the cheddar biscuits! The margarita flight was a bit of a waste because the flavors just weren't there. I would get something else next time. My husband enjoyed his chicken dish, but his sides looked a little pitiful for Mac and cheese. I was glad I didn't order it. I got the large Caesar salad and would get something else next time because it was a bit underwhelming. Our service was absolutely amazing and the food and drinks came out SO fast! I would love to go back and maybe try the Alfredo pasta or the salmon. Their menu really has a lot of great options. We bowled after dinner and that was AWESOME! Such a fun spot in the area!

The Grand really exceeded my expectations for brunch!! Not to be skeptical, but I did not have high expectations for this place. It seemed there was way too many things going on to be really good at each thing. I was looking for a fun brunch place with drink options and found The Grand, but wasn't sure since they had such a wide variety menu and also offered bowling and a tiki bar. However, the food was delicious and the service was GREAT! We arrived just 10min after they opened so we had the place almost to ourselves. Our server was wonderful and attentive and made sure we were taken care of every step of the way. My husband and I split the cinnamon toast waffle and the bacon omelet. The waffle was perfectly delicious and not as overly sweet as one would think. The omelet was light and fluffy and full of bacon (even though I do wish it had a few more veggies because they were cooked perfectly). We also ordered the bubbles bottle to share so it came with a bottle of sparkling wine and a little carafe of your choice of juice! Of course it's cheap sparkling wine, but for $21 it was fun and just what we needed with Saturday brunch! The space is HUGE and perfect for large parties! We didn't get a chance to do bowling, but it looked super fun and definitely would be a great date night or night out with friends. They have an outdoor patio out back with some yard games and a tiki bar downstairs. It's really a one stop shop on main street in Columbia!

The place is very well air conditioned, and the space is very intentional. Visiting from out of state the waitress seemed a bit shy/new but curious about Wisconsin she warmed up a little bit. It's really cool that you can see the chefs in their element behind a glass wall while you wait. The silverware, or should I say Goldwear was beautiful. I started out with the All American Spritz- it was good but nothing extraordinary. However when I tried the pistachio martini, I was in disbelief! I was skeptical to order it as I've never even heard of one before and was unsure how pistachio would translate into a martini. It was creamy and somehow savory and sweet at the same time, the alcohol taste was nonexistent. And the rim was coated in pistachio crumbs. Both the drinks presentation was beautiful. I personally ordered the bbq chicken sandwhich, with mac and cheese instead of fries for the side. The sandwich was smoky, I could not stop eating it! If anyone was wondering what so special about the mac and cheese, it's the name of the noodles. And yes, the waitress will sound it out with you lol! The Mac and cheese wasn't creamy, and I found it a bit bland unfortunately. There was no order the same in the group I came with. The truffle fries were on the thinner crispier side, neat that there were different color of potatoes used. The duck wings came out like their very own presentation. I tried the alligator bites, that were served with 2 sauces, I thought there were kind of chewy , and weird enough I guess I have a preference with how my alligator is served since having tried some at the Wisco State fair. I love that the menu feels curated, you know what you're there for and it's not overwhelming to pick from the options of something new. The bathroom was very cute too! And the bar area was lit up, a cool atmosphere.

That created a slightly rushed feeling right from the start of the experience. When the food arrived, it was not served hot. The fries were seasoned but came out cold, so we had to send them back. The service also felt a bit disengaged, as though the server was ready to wrap things up, even though there was still about 30 to 45 minutes before closing time. That said, once the food was remade and served hot, it was really good. My salad, however, was not the same experience, as the lettuce had brown spots throughout, which took away from the overall quality. You can tell the kitchen has potential when the food is prepared properly, but consistency is the issue. The ambience is very cool and visually appealing. It is a bit dark for my personal preference in the evening, but I can imagine it being bright and beautiful during the daytime. The cocktail I ordered was just okay and didn't really stand out. Overall, there is definitely potential here, but improvements in consistency, service attentiveness, and food quality control would really elevate the experience.

A bar that doesn't have ANYTHING on draft is kind of weird. Second, I asked if their kitchen was open, and after being told it was, asked for the chicken tender basket. Only after running my card, did they tell me that they were out of fries, and I would either have to get just the tenders or sweet potato fries instead. I don't like sweet potato fries, so I paid $10 for a chicken tender "basket", which included only tenders. In my opinion, it would have been appropriate to either offer me a refund, or at least offer me a shot or more tenders for the trouble. Finally, the bar itself was pretty nasty, with broken seats, TVs that had black spots on them, and a disorganized looking vibe overall. The staff and patrons were pretty nasty as well. In all, this was one of the worst bars I've been to in a long time, I will not be coming back, and I would not recommend that anyone patronize this bar if they're looking for a high-quality experience.

Service was good and very friendly, portion sizes were extremely generous, and well priced. That said, the food wasn't great. Very greasy all around. My frittata had a ton of mozzarella cheese which added no flavor but a ton of calories, one bite of the grit cake and it had very little taste but a lot of fat in it. While our service was great, it looked like they had two servers for the entire place. We saw two tables of people get up and leave because the weren't being waited on.
