I had bookmarked Bittersweet Cafe in Holly, MI. We arrived at lunchtime and were able to find a table. A small two top. There was a big fellow whose chair was inches from mine. At one point, as he was emphasizing his opinion, his elbow hit me. He said sorry. We chose the special fruit salad: mixed greens, one pecan, five red grapes, about one and a half chopped strawberries, some chopped walnuts, at least half a cup of craisins, a scatter of feta cheese and a metal cup of raspberry dressing. I left a heap of craisins (fearing a sugar high) and three pieces of spoiled lettuce in the bowl. Conversation was difficult as the noise level with a full restaurant had everyone speaking loudly. If you enjoy cramped quarters and a noisy place try it. read more

What a cute little joint! Amidst the small Downtown Holly sits this cute cafe that serves breakfast/brunch and lunch items. This was our first time coming here, and boy do I wish we came here sooner! Plus it's super close to us, so that is great! We came close around 3:30pm on a Saturday, so it was close to quitting time (they close at 4pm on the weekends btw). The lady, however, was super nice and told us that they were still preparing food. Since they have a large selection of sandwiches, soups, and salads, it took us some time to decide what to order. After a few minutes, we ordered: Pastrami Reuben ($8.95) and the Herbed Turkey Grill ($7.95). The portions are decent for the price, but the standout of the two was the Herbed Turkey Grill sandwich. Served on Pumpernickel bread, the sandwich consisted of thinly sliced roasted turkey, baby spinach, tomato, cheddar cheese, and a thousand island-ish sauce. Since they were closing, the lady apologized for the smaller amount of turkey in the sandwich and only charged us $4. We appreciated her honesty. :) The Pastrami Reuben sandwich was pretty lean and had a nice flavor, but we still prefer the texture of the one from Stage Deli. However, for the price, it was still yummy and the portion was good. Chips were served with it, but were a tad too salty, so we didn't eat all of them. I'd be curious to see what their soups and breakfast items are like here, so I'll come back another time and give another update. My wife and I visited the bittersweet Café for the first time yesterday for lunch. I had a cup of chili and a tunafish on pumpernickel. My wife had a slim jams. We really enjoyed our food and the ambience with our table overlooking downtown Holly on a bright sunny day. The wait staff was very attentive and friendly and the food was great. The establishment is small and quaint, but the staff is friendly and provide excellent service. The menu selections are quite extensive and are unique for this place. Lovely staff!! They were so quick and kind, and the food doesn't leave anything to be desired either. Loads of options on the menu; you'd be hard pressed to not find something you liked on it. I've lived north south east and west but the town that this little cafe resides Holly is one of the most quaint wonderful kind places that I have experienced. Great food and a really cute, cozy atmosphere. Or family stopped here on our way through and I'm so glad we did. We started with coffee, they have a daily flavor, today's was blueberry crumble. The kids tried it and liked it, but my husband and I stuck with regular coffee, which was very good, too. My daughter and I had the veggie omelette, it was a delicious medley of grilled peppers, onions, mushrooms, and spinach. My son had the burrito supreme, and my husband had the breakfast frittata. My husband and I had a wonderful meal here Thursday celebrating our wedding anniversary. We both ordered steaks that were cooked perfectly and very flavorful. She had the Filet and I had the NY Strip. We enjoyed the salads and the side items as well. We both had a wonderful dessert to finish our meal. I had the time to get away from the highway/peruse indie options on Yelp, so I picked this cafe on a whim and LOVED it.
