If you're in Hamilton, come by here. You're going to have a good time, guaranteed. Definitely a hot spot in Hamilton on the weekend. This is a full on brewpub that has the usual bar bites, plenty of beer, and even live music. Sucks that Montana has weird liquor laws for breweries and forces them to close at 8pm. Had their sampler which came with TEN beers and I thought all the takes on IPAs were pretty hoppy. I also really enjoyed the seasonal pumpkin ale along with the "Red Dread" and I don't even like amber ales normally. Food was okay, was recommended the tacos but what I was thinking? It did pass through my head that I was in one of the furthest states from the Southern border, there was no way they'd be legit. My chicken taco came with shredded cheese, 'nuff said. Fish taco was a bit better and surprisingly wasn't beer battered like everything else I've seen in MT. There's no pizza offered here, next time I might opt for a wrap or burger instead. Not sure why people opt to create fake Mexican food around here at so many restaurants. Service at the bar was okay, there were only two bartenders servicing all drink orders on a really busy night so it took a while to get your orders in. What a diverse menu! The pescatarian chowing down on the cod and bean humble bowl, the vegan eating the yam fries and veggie burger, the meat-eater noshing down on a burger with cheese curds (who knew?): we were all happy eating here. I also had a sampler of a few beers (4 tasting pours for $5 , not bad at all) and was especially fond of the ginger wheat beer and the porter. There's also a ton of seating, so I'd imagine there's usually a table available...? TLDR: good food and drink for whoever is ordering. read more

This will be the strangest review I've ever posted to Yelp. I did not care for their beer because it was too hoppy for my tastes BUT I know there are people out there who like a hoppy beer and in that vain this place just might be the place for them. The food was also great. They have this special sauce they put in some of their sandwiches that is so good we took a cup of it home! The servers are wonderful and friendly and don't mind spending a little extra time with you you. This is really a great place. If you like hoppy beer you will live this place. They do monthly WHIMS that are usually themed and they are amazing!!! This is a happening brew pub with tasty food choices and good craft beer selections. We stopped by for lunch and we're lucky to get a table for our large group. Service was good especially considering how busy it was at lunch. We started with the wings and fried cheese curds. The wings were Cajun dry rub. They were crispy and meaty but not too spicy. The cheese curds had a siracha powder on them but they weren't spicy - a big hit with our younger dinner guests. For entrees we had the second date burger with a date sauce, garlic aioli, and LTO. Very good although the bun was a bit big and tended to fall apart making this dish a little messy. We also has the trout tacos with a fruity bean slaw which was a bit bland. We also had the kids fish n chips and Mac n cheese. Both were good sized portions for kids meals. For drinks, we had the beer sampler which included samples of their 10-12 beers. This was a great way to sample all they have to offer! We will definitely come back again! read more

Food is awesome , but some guy with a beard cleaning the bathrooms was EXTREMELY rude and condescending.We went to use the bathroom and the beard guy had a "section closed sign" across the entrance, I assumed the sign was misplaced because it didn't say, "bathroom closed for cleaning " so my son and I used it. As we left the bathroom we were faced with rude beard guy who said the bathroom was closed for cleaning AFTER we used it, weird because I passed him on the way in, needless to say food and beer is great and we'll miss it ,too bad one disgruntled unhappy employee has to ruin it . read more

Flat beer, rude service and allergic reactions. It might have been a typical night or off night but we won't be going back. Environment seemed great but the smell was a bit foul. That wore off the longer we sat in it but still traveled home with us. Tried the huckleberry which was ok on nose but lacked flavor. Single hop was acidic. Black ipa was roasty but left horrible after taste. My son got a shellfish similar reaction on a non seafood dish which may mean they use same oil or pan for different foods. Wont go back. read more

I like the rustic feel of this place. The food is good and reasonably priced. The service is good and friendly. The beer is good and pretty cheap. I ordered a black IPA, but it tasted more like a stout. It was still good, though. Growler glass is a good deal and they have a good selection on tap. read more

We came through late Sunday evening on our way to Darby. Our waitress was terrific - the food was equally terrific. I had the nachos with extra cojita cheese, my husband had the BLT. Do yourself a favor and get the side salad (it's HUGE) with Bleu Cheese dressing. Salad is gorgeous greens, cucumbers, carrots - so fresh and did I mention big?! I dropped in for light snack and tasty brew. What I found was a captivating atmosphere, delicious brew and phenomenal shrimp taco treats. This place is my favorite spot to eat in town. you can literally not go wrong with anything on their menu. their staff is amazing and friendly, they have outdoor lower patio and upper deck which is amazing to sit out on if its warm enough. they allow dogs on the patios as well which is cool. They also have live music depending on the day of the week, which is so fun to grab some food/drink and relax to! my favorite thing to order is their nachos (tons of jalapeños, amazing beer cheese), and their cheese curds- which i order a side of the garlic aioli to dip them in. i like sweeter beers so i'm a personal fan of a lot of their seasonal stuff. can't go wrong with grabbing their flights if you're looking to try it all, you won't be disappointed! read more

The food is incredible. That's the bottom line, the brisket is beyond fork tender. I had the brisket bowl tonight, had brisket sandwich a few days ago. You cannot go wrong eating here. The selection of micros is also across the board, you will find something you like. Tonight was premier night for desserts and they hit it out of the park. If you're a local, you know this place, if you're driving through Hamilton, you need to know this place. The staff is awesome and so friendly. I have been coming to Bitterroot Brewery for several years now. The food has always been great and has been a nice place to get a good meal and a drink. My husband and I stopped there this afternoon, a Wednesday at 2 pm knowing that the lunch rush would be over, which it was. There were only four tables with customers at them so we found a seat and waited for menus. The waiter was at the table right next to ours and was deeply involved in a conversation about hunting with his buddies. We sat there and sat there for over eight minutes for this guy to figure it out. Unfortunately he never did. I could understand slower service on a busy day but with only four other groups there and they had all been served, service should have been great! After it was obvious he was not going to end his other conversation we got up and left. The waiter never said a word to us! In times when businesses are struggling to remain open customer service should be at the top of their list. I'm sad to say we will have to find a new place. read more

While on vacation we stopped in here for lunch and a few drinks. This was probably the best lunch we had during our stay. They have a lot of vegan options which was a real breath of fresh air! I had the vegan burger and it was easily the best vegan burger I've had in the state! The beers were delicious. The team members were all friendly and very knowledgeable about the menu and brews. We visited on a warm summer day and they were able to accommodate us bringing our dog onto the outdoor patio..... something we have to look for on our road trips in the hot summer. The patio was on the second story and had a nice breeze on the warm evening. There was a band playing inside and we could still hear the music which was great. We tried the beer sampler and then enjoyed a pint of our favorites - The Huckleberry Honey and the Nut Brown. I liked the Huckleberry Honey so much I had to find a six pack before leaving the area. For Food the crispy fish wrap was excellent and the burrito bowl was really good too! The sweet potato fries were also - Yum! Overall we really enjoyed this place and will visit again if we are ever back in the area! read more

Lewis and Clark's Excellent Adventure - Season One, Episode V "Brewing up a Storm" 15 March 2014: The Bitterroot Valley has changed since our last visits. The scenery is the same, but the food and drink are much better. We arrived in a town that was not here before, a place they call "Hamilton." We camped near to the town square and entered a brewery, where to our great pleasure there was food, warmth, and brews in great abundance. I selected an ale tasting of honey and citrus and fresh hops; Lewis opted for a stout made in the style of Imperial Russia. We were asked if we wished to eat. I ordered a grizzly bear burger and Lewis wanted dog tacos. We were told in no uncertain terms that such things were not to be found. And they nearly threw us out for such impertinences. The Bitterroot Valley has indeed changed since '05 and '06! I quickly amended my order to three tacos prepared with cod, pork, and beef; Lewis had a burger with fried sticks of yam, called "sweet potato fries." We were glad not to have had to eat dried salmon - again! The beer was refreshing, rich, and flavorful. The tacos and burger baskets were plentiful and most nourishing. Lewis's spirits seemed to have been lifted. He gazed out the window at the snow-covered peaks and the wide, granite-faced canyon to our West. "I'm glad we didn't have to eat horse again," Lewis told me between bites of burger. "But perhaps we should purchase a growler of Nut Brown Ale before we attempt to cross Lolo Pass this time." "Better make it two," I said to my intrepid traveling companion. "It's a long way to the Columbia from here, and beer this fresh and local is not so easy to find where we are heading." "And where is that?" he asked, ordering another pint of stout and extra sweet potato fries. "Lewiston, of course. In a place they call Idaho." "A city named after me!" He was incredulous. "How most unusual. And what are our names doing on that bottle of beer over there? Sawtooth Ale? I am so confused, Clark." Poor Lewis. I LOVE the food, atmosphere and service of this restaurant. We always go every Friday to have their fish and chips. Sometimes we even order a beer but it is the great staff and food there that draws us - not the beer since we don't like IPA's, we order just the dark beer they brew. You can also take your family into the facility and not worry about it being a local "dive bar." IT is an upscale restaurant with unique offerings such as a tuna sandwich on a squid ink bun for example. It offers Mexican, Asian and American food offerings. Go try it. YOU will like it. read more

I had read up on Montana brewery laws because I couldn't figure out why the pubs closed at 8pm so was only a little confused about the beer vs. food ordering. I could see others who didn't understand but the waiter was spectacular and simply smoothed over the uncomfy bits and made everything groovy. The turkey burger I had was one of the better I've had the pleasure of inhaling. And I don't know where they rustled up the bun but it was super duper. The other meal was a chicken ceasar wrap and while it looked wimpy from a distance it was rumored to be packed with chicken. (Unable to verify the rumor, I was too busy shoving turkey and maple bacon down my gullet.) But you're really here for beer and you're really here for good beer. Never fear, good beer is here!!! I live in Portland, Oregon so have explored many-a breweries, bars and restaurants. I was pleasantly surprised to find such a gem of a spot tucked away in the beautiful Bitterroots! Bitterroot Brewery's food is very inventive --- but executed successfully, unlike many places that try to dive into "inventive" food. Their service is great, atmosphere is fun and location is killer --- a patio where you can see the mountains surrounding you?! What more could you want! This is THE PLACE to be in Hamilton. I live in San Diego where there are incredible breweries on every block...and I come to Montana to have what I consider the best beer in the world. "The Brewery" is one of my favorite places to visit while in Hamilton. It's a great place to catch up with friends, mingle with locals, catch a great band or enjoy some delicious food. This family owned business has been a Hamilton institution for many years. They have an established set of regulars that you'll run into again and again enjoying a brew, but they always welcome newcomers with a smile and a great suggestion for a delicious cold beer. Their award winning beer is delicious. Standards such as the Sawtooth, Nut Brown and Single Hop are always solid choices, but I usually like to try the whims and seasonals on tap. I've yet to be disappointed by a suggestion from the bartenders and I've broadened my beer drinking horizons! The new menu boasts juicy burgers, wings and tacos as well as plenty of options for kids. The daily special always includes creative flavor combinations and plenty of fresh and local ingredients. Entertainment ranges from live music and special dinners with beer pairings to game nights and fly tying. Of course you can always stop by just to relax with a cold beer.
