Second trip there, last trip. We waited almost an hour for our food, and we didn't challenge the kitchen at all. Romaine wedge at $8.99 is grossly overpriced for what you get. Blue cheese dressing, bacon, onions, tomato and chow mein noodles? Croutons too expensive? Fried calamari with peppers except there were none. It was served with Buffalo sauce? With squid? Third item was Nachos Neapolitan. Except they weren't. They were fried flour tortillas with cheese whiz. Add chicken? $4.00 for 1/2 chicken breast cut into itty bitty cubes. Not worth it. Fish & chips, again, an easy meal to prepare. No complaints except the batter was very well done and lastly, pan seared scallops, that meal was ok. Bottom line, for what they charge, the food, even easily prepared items are poorly done. Quality is lacking in the easiest dishes. The kitchen needs a chef that will take charge of the staff. If you're sauté can't keep up, replace them. Same with the fry cook. Almost an hour for those items to be prepared is about 30 minutes too long. Eat there at your own risk. read more

My husband and I dined here on the recommendation of a neighbor. The food was average at best. I had some steak dish served over potato pancakes. the dish was brought on a glass plate with canned gravy slopped all over it. The steak was over done and tough. The pancake was undercooked and the sauce was super salty. for $19 I expected the steak to at least be cooked right. My husband had the fish and chips. he enjoyed it but fries were undercooked. The app (buffalo rangoons) were short of average. my soda was flat and they barely had a beer selection on tap. We decided on the peanut butter something for dessert and they should have just called it a mixed pie. clearly frozen, and seriously lacking peanut butter. Even though it wasn't very busy, it took forever to get our meal. I gave this place 2 stars because the service was good and it was very clean but that pretty much it. To compare this place to a NY bistro is a joke. No way New Yorkers would tolerate powder gravy, over cooked steak and slow food delivery. Been a few times now and is consistently disappointing. The last time we went we used a gift card received because we went last winter and it was absolutely freezing in there. Said something to management and they provided us with a $25 gift card to try them again. Well we did and wish we hadn't. The server, although pleasant and friendly, seemed overwhelmed even though it was not that busy. We wanted some bread as our young son really likes bread before our meals and asked for it. She said she would bring something over, and she never did until I asked again AFTER our entrees had arrived. And it wasn't just bread, it was chewy balls of dough with Parmesan cheese on them. My son dislikes cheese so they were not eaten. Wish we had been told as we would have told her just some sliced bread would be preferred. My entree was fish with horseradish and panko bread crumbs. Portion was small and the only seasoning seamed to be the horseradish. I also wanted gravy with my mashed potatoes. I know I asked for it when ordering, but I had to ask three more times to actually receive it. By the time I got it the potatoes were cold. The third time I asked the waitress as she was wiping down the table next to us. Thought it strange that a restaurant at this price point had the waitress wiping down tables. My vegetable was a squash of some kind that was super dry with no seasoning. I would have asked for some butter but was just so frustrated I didn't feel like trying to track down the waitress yet again. The table next to us said she kept forgetting them as well. Went to brunch on 8/20, 2 adults 3 kids. Had to ask for a booth more than 3 times for what seemed an easy request for a fairly empty restaurant was challenging. After placing our order and waiting 1/2 hour plus, order showed up incomplete. By that I mean missing one of the meals. Server took responsibility but none the less a meal was missing, not to mention the piping hot plates for little children. Buy the time the missing meal was ready everyone was finished with their brunch and ready to go. Waitress again apologized and took the meal of the tab, nice gesture. She proceeded to bring us a togo package that appeared to have been sitting for an extended period of time and had dust or insects in it. had breakfast here today 8/12/12...took 25 minutes to get our meals..not very busy there at this time. Eggs benedict with clam cake ...eggs were solid not runny...crab cakes were terribly salty..bread soggy...our waiter was perfect...but the manager was too busy chatting with friends to see that there were lapses in the meal. I have eaten at 88s numerous times in the past few years. The service and food have always been excellent. I went a month ago and service wasn't great but I chalked it up to a brand new waitperson. Last night I brought some friends from NY City there because I wanted to show them we have decent restaurants here too. I was soooo disappointed! The service was terrible. We waited 15-20 minutes for just our drink order. The person waiting on us never came by to ask how the food was or if we needed anything else. The food has a been better. I am going to hope this was because it was fairly busy for a Tuesday night. I will give you one more try before I write you off for good but it won't be really soon. read more

HORRIBLE. The chicken and burgers were overcooked and dry. The pasta had canned sauce. The steak was a low grade quality and undercooked just short of bleeding we asked that it be done medium. I have been here a dozen times and find the staff to be very friendly, the drinks are great and for the most part the food is very good. Have had a few meals that were not great, but when the problem has been presented the manager has always done the right thing. The four cheese hamburger is fantastic, bug and tasty have to split it with a friend it's so big. Nice atmosphere and decor. read more

Sea Bass was soooo small a portion (less than 4 oz) and my haddock was dry with way too much Ritz Cracker crumb topping. I think our waiter was embarrassed to serve it to us also! Overpriced for what we got! Won't return. read more

Recently visited 88's Bistro for a Sunday breakfast. We arrived at 11 and the place was pretty empty. We were informed at the door that the kitchen was running behind about half an hour. That was an understatement. Twenty five minutes later we were offered coffee, only because we flagged down a waitress. We ordered our coffee and breakfast at the same time. The restaurant closes at noon...we were delivered our breakfast at 12:30......Never again..... read more

Went to Eighty-Ates for the first time last night. Can't say enough about my grilled Tuna....it was awesome and can't wait to go back to order it again! My son ordered the Shrimp and Broccoli Alfredo. It was rather watery when served, however when Bridget(a great server) inquired as to our satisfaction, I informed her that the Alfredo was rather runny. She took the plate and returned, informing us that there was new chef in the kitchen who had forgotten an ingredient. Problem solve with tasty results. Clean place, cute decor but that's about all it has for a pro. Its really just inconsistent service, inconsistent food quality. My boyfriend and I have gone on Thursday nights for the $8.88 drink and two appetizer special, great deal so its hard to complain but the food is never the same twice, its so inconsistent you never know what you are getting. They recently started serving breakfast so we decided to give it another go after looking at their new breakfast menu online. I was surprised to see a place in the Webster area that actually served FRUIT, I was excited to see real food instead of a heart attack causing amount of fat like most places around here: BUT: when we got there they no longer served fruit for breakfast or anything closed to it, in fact the menu they had online was not the same one they had at the restaurant. I told the waitress what I was looking for in terms of a healthier breakfast. She did nothing. So I literally had toast and coffee for breakfast, and immediately drove to market basket to get some fresh fruit to complete my meal! Most other waitresses would have helped to come up with a breakfast that suited my needs, but hey, its her tip that suffers when I only order $2 worth of food! I don't think we will be going back there for food, we've given this place a solid 6 tries in hopes it would get more consistent, but it hasn't so we will just continue going into Worcester for a good meal. read more

Food was decent. Veal was gristly, sauce was tasteless and cloying. Haddock was good and salmon both ways was delicious. Italian mashed potatoes were great, and the kitchen was kind enough to make us steamed broccoli, instead of green beans, which was the vegetable du jour. Upon being seated, we were served complimentary zeppoles dusted in garlic parmesan and served with a very good chunky marinara. We also ordered calamare for the table, but the serving was so meager, it was embarrassing. They were served with a delicious remoulade. We order calamare appetizer anywhere we dine out, and the amount given was clearly 1/4 of what is served elsewhere. Our server, Katherine was very nice, but we waited a long time for water, and a dining companion was almost done with his meal when his previously ordered chardonnay made its appearance. For the prices, one would think that entrees should come with salad or a cup of soup. At brst 2 to 2 1/2 stars. We also were not asked if we wanted dessert. We did ask for coffee, which was very good. Also, one would think our dining companion should have been comped his glass of wine, as he wasn't able to enjoy it with his meal.
