The new Whistle Stop reopened yesterday under new ownership (Thank God, because the last owners dragged this local gem into the ground). We just got home from vacation last night and we haven't gone shopping yet so we stopped in to have some lunch. We arrived about 11:40 AM and the parking lot was pretty full for only being open 10 minutes!!! There wasn't anyone still a lot of open seats, but we decided to sit at the bar.
We loved how they spruced it up inside as it was previously starting to look dated. Fresh colors and they eliminated the booths in the bar area and changed to high tops.
We ordered drinks ( just wish they had a beer menu for my husband as he loves craft beer and had to ask about what was available). My husband ordered the Rueben with hand cut fries and I ordered the fish and chips. Our server brought us some fresh popcorn while we waited for our food.
Food was delicious, my husbands Rueben could have been toasted more, but he said it was really good and had plenty of meat in it. My fish and chips looked questionable at first because it was a little too dark and looked overcooked, but it was delicious and very moist under the light coat of batter. The cole slaw was so good, it was nice and crisp and not soupy like so many other places.
We're happy to have a place close by (we're in Webster) that we can finally get a good meal without driving into Worcester so we'll be there pretty regularly! read more
