Can I just say the Sea Bass melted like butter in my tongue. The sauce on the wagu beef was deep and flavorful. The carrot mashed potatoes were also built in flavor. What brings the score down is the service. We waited over seven minutes to place a drink order. Our waitstaff (Lauren) didn't check in with us until we were almost done eating our done, missed an opportunity to sell more drinks. Never offered us fresh cracked pepper, asked for more bread, still waiting at least ten minutes later. Service ruined the experience and they aren't full yet. Disappointing. Their Happy Hour drinks are reasonably priced for downtown. It wasn't until I had a date until I tried their food which I thought was subpar. The owners take pride in their establishment and their chef--it shows! Priced reasonably. Variety of wines by the glass with equally reasonable pricing. It was really good food. Came to Florida on vacation and decided to venture up to Naples from Fort Myers to see a friend of ours playing in a band. Dinner reservations were made at Bistro 821. The hour plus ride to get there was more aggravating as an airplane had crashed on the highway. When we finally arrived at the restaurant, I could tell we were in an upscale establishment. I asked our server Rob what he recommended. He said that the Chilean Sea Bass was most popular. I was in a quandary because the also served Wagyu beef. He pointed out the pick 2 and pick 3 options. I chose the pick 3 where I could have smaller portions and pick 3 entrees. I chose the sea bass, wagyu sirloin and lobster tail. When asked how I wanted my steak i replied mooing. When the plate arrived i was shocked to see a virtually raw steak. Just the way I wanted. Perfect for my tastes. The star of the plate was the sea bass. Quite frankly the best piece of fish I've ever had. Marinated in saki in a wine verblanc sauce to die for. An absolute killer taste. The Executive Chef Jonathan DeRue even came out. (I think he wanted to see who ordered the raw steak). I told him i had a new favorite restaurant. The entire meal was amazing. I spoke to Rob about dessert which I probably wasn't going to order until he said Bananas Foster. As an alcoholic, I explained the need to completely cook off the alcohol. He went back to the kitchen and told me that Jonathan would take care of it personally. Bananas Foster over a home made sugar waffle. I thought I died and went to heaven! I now know that i have to return to Naples and if we ever decide to relocate to Florida, it will be to the west coast somewhere near Naples! read more

So, hesitated about leaving this review .... But here goes. We live here and have since 2008. Bistro has always been one of our go to restaurants on fifth. Always really good service, atmosphere and food. What is the big draw for us is their Mussel appetizer. Quality and preparation is spot on..... they are amazing. What has bothered me for a long time is their split service charge. My husband and I are not huge eaters and we like to share everything from appetizer to salad to entree. We never request anything split, we are very capable of doing that ourselves. Bistro will not let you. This is a practice that certain restaurants adhere to and frankly it is off putting. We prefer more tastes than just each getting an entree. I'm not going to order food that we can't eat so as not to offend the establishment. We enjoy eating out, good food and patronizing the fifth Avenue restaurant scene......... read more

Updating my review to account for two of our annual visits (a birthday and Christmas). My grandmother, who is in her 90s, loves this restaurant so it's my family's regular celebratory spot. We celebrated Christmas Eve at this restaurant last night and had a lovely time. Last night, the restaurant space was definitely stretched as all of the outdoor seats had to be moved indoors due to the weather. Upon arriving, we were originally seated next to the front door, which was a bit uncomfortable because cold air blew in whenever the front door open. Luckily, the manager, Jason, found us a more comfortable once he saw that my grandmother was cold and provided her with a complimentary glass of champagne. Having been a regular Naples diner for many years, I've learned that this level of service cannot always been depended upon. He really went above and beyond. Overall it was a good meal, just didn't really wow me. They have a 2 courses for 29 menu 5-6:30. At first it sounds like a really good deal, but the portions were pretty small. My mom & I wanted to have a nice dinner out for the last day of my visit. Since we hadn't really thought ahead, reservations weren't available most places. We decided to head towards 5th Ave in hopes there was some walk-in availability at one of our picks. Fortunately, there was one sidewalk table for 2 left! The service was mostly good, though there was one point where we were out of water for a while. Our server helped us with our decisions and was very friendly. Firstly, I LOVED the pretzel bread and butter (was is like a honey cinnamon? I'm bad at this). I could eat it every day. We then had the Brie, which was excellent. Like most of the menu, it was overpriced for what it was, but I expect you're paying for the real estate. The Bistro salad was also good, though a little shy on "exotic mushrooms." Overall, we were off to a great start! For the mains, my mom got the pick 2 and chose the Chilean Sea Bass and Snapper, both of which she really loved...especially the Sea Bass. She subbed a goat cheese and potato cake (for $5) for the carrot/potato mash. It tasted mainly like potato. Neither of us felt it tasted like there was goat cheese in it. Speaking of goat cheese, I got the Goat Cheese Vodka Pasta, which we both expected to have goat cheese cooked into the sauce for a unique and wonderful spin. Sadly, it was a pretty mediocre vodka sauce with some goat cheese sprinkles. For an ingredient the was the leading ingredient in the dish's name, it was pretty lightly represented. I'm Italian and worked in an Italian restaurant for several years. Vodka sauce is my fave and I treat myself to it pretty rarely. This missed the mark by a mile. As a vegetarian, I also picked the pasta because there weren't many options. They could do better with ingredients they already have. I would have been thrilled to see a grilled veggie plate with a side of the goat cheese potato cake, a stir-fry, or a veggie entree that was any 3 sides. read more

This is one of my absolute favorite restaurants on 5th Avenue! Meal started off with complimentary pretzel rolls - they were served warm and the butter melted right on them. Yum! One of the best steaks that I have had in Naples. It was cooked perfectly to the temperature that I asked for and didn't compromise flavor even being well done. Meat was so easy to cut and melted in my mouth. The sauce with the steak complimented the flavor so well...definitely completed the taste. The au gratin potatoes were delicious! They come baked and served as a triangle layered piece (like pie). The mashed potatoes had small carrots in them and were unique and delicious. I was able to swap out veggies for another stretch without an up charge, so that was nice. The server was very attentive and continued to refill drinks without us even needing to ask. I have mixed feelings about Bistro 821. I've been there when it's been top-notch delicious, and I've been there when it's been ho-hum. This time it was the latter. We arrived 20 minutes late for our reservation, but we were never-the-less seated at a nice table near the window which I appreciated. I ordered the seafood paella, and my partner ordered a dinner salad with grilled shrimp. The risotto was tasty, but very heavy. I took home a doggy bag and when I took it out of the fridge the next day, it was like a solid mass of lard. I can't imagine how much cheese, cream and butter must have been in it. Granted risotto is not generally a light dish, but it seemed heavier than most. There is no valet, but there is street parking and a large free garage one block away. read more

We sat outside, had a great table, and great service. We were excited about the menu options, lots of choices. We ended up being surprised at how saturated everything was in heavy, fatty sauces. In some cases drowning in sauces where less would have been so much better. If you like lighter, more balanced sauces...you'll neeed to order carefully. Mussels - were fresh and cooked well, but sauce was too buttery. Side salads were very good, no complaints. Seafood risotto was super creamy/saucey (too rich for us). The sauce over-powered the fresh seafood. Lobster ravioli was drowned in a heavy, oily sauce. The Ravioli itself, without the sauce was pretty good. One person ordered penne and liked it. It was a huge portion, and ironically a bit under sauced (regular tomato sauce). I had the pick 2 proteins option (you get half portions of 2 or 3 protein options) picking the sea bass & Snappper. The sea bass portion was super tasty, but that half of the plate was covered in butter that I tried to avoid. The snapper was coated in coconut and had other Asian flavors which sounded amazing... but was meh. Really tasty! We came as a party of 7 and had a great dinner. Service was fantastic, they brought over pretzel dinner rolls with salted butter before our meals. I had the grilled salmon which was delicious and a fantastic portion for the price, as was my boyfriends sole. We have been here several times and there's a good reason for that. We were a little early and Scott, the owner, had our table ready but offered us a place at the bar as the staff continued to prepare for the evening. Mike was our bartender and was so personable and made great drinks. Angela and Matt were our servers and very attentive. The food (3 had the ribs and one had the sea bass) was presented by the executive chef which was a real treat. Great restaurant with fabulous food! Their specials are always good. Fish dishes, especially, are top shelf. They offer a 'sampling' of 2 or 3 specific items. All but 1 are fish, which is their speciality. Those items are in smaller portions usually with a risotto and a veggie. The fish choices are all served as they come on the regular menu, just smaller size. It's a fantastic way to taste several items. Be very hungry if you decide to order 3! Bistro 821 has a great atmosphere. First time dining outside. I love being outside but of course 5th av on a Friday night was loud. It's stone crab season and we started with this as an appetizer. Very good! We got there early and enjoyed the $29 special which is a salad or appetizer and your entree. The entree is a smaller portion than normal but that was plenty of food for me. I have been a customer at this restaurant twice now in the past 6 months on my visits to Naples, and I have to say its a little hidden gem in downtown Naples! They have incredible specials for $45 for two dinners and a bottle of Chardonnay or Cabernet through out the week. It's unbelievable for a resort town like Naples, especially during high season and the food is delicious matched with solid service and trendy atmosphere inside or outdoor seating on 5th avenue. I've eaten the chicken scallopini and the filet of lemon sole, paired with carrot- potato mashed and brocolini or a salad and rice. Warm bread with dipping oil, and an appetizer of calamari is always a favorite as well. Don't miss this little gem if you're visiting or residing. My son and I ordered the Wagyu Rib eye, which was on special (a very expensive special). Absolutely horrible. Tons of fat, chewy, and very little flavor. I will say the vegetables were okay. It must have been clear to the waiter that we were not happy with dinner, as he never asked us if we enjoyed our meal. I would be embarrassed to plate this meal and I'm definitely NOT a picky customer. We should have sent the steak back but I hate doing that.
