I finally had the opportunity to meet for happy hour. I researched a bunch of places in Midtown East and came across this spot. When I arrived at the restaurant I recall that this place had a rooftop but due to time I settled in the one of the outdoor tables in front of the restaurant. The happy hour menu is awesome, which ends at 7pm. Once my friend arrived, we ordered the frose ($7), my friend got the arancini ($7) and I got the fried calamari ($10). We were impressed by the service despite being short staffed and the portion sizes of these orders that came in except for the frose, but we can't complain. I will definitely return to this place and hopefully be able to do another happy hour get together on the rooftop. read more

I made a reservation for dinner with my in-laws at Bistango and feel awful for choosing such a disappointing restaurant. The host seemed surprised at our arrival, though I had an email confirming my reservation. I was then informed that the dining room was closed for a private event. This was news to me. We were seated outside in the freezing cold where the door was constantly opening and hitting my father in-law in the back of the head. The pizza was tiny with what seemed to be a tortilla crust. The pastas were serviceable but my mother-in-law said her snapper entree was tasteless. The wait staff were kind and helpful, otherwise I'd give only one star. read more

I go to Bistango every time I'm in New York, and it never disappoints. One of the most amazing things about this restaurant is that they can make *everything* on the menu (lasagna, ravioli, flatbread pizza, and more!) gluten free. And their gluten free items taste amazing. The staff are always incredibly friendly and go out of their way to talk to my young kids. The giant fishtank in the restaurant is also a hit with kids. I guess my mistake was not asking again when my food was served. Please be cautious eating here with an allergy. Everything on the menu CAN BE MADE gluten free. I saw a lot of reviews saying 'everything is gluten free' it is not. And even when you order it to be made without gluten there is still room for error. Please please be weary at every step as we are all human and make mistakes. This mistake cost us the rest of the day and a missed broadway show as I had to go back to the hotel and ... do business. Had a craving for Italian and this place definitely fulfilled my desire. A co worker and I visited during our work trip to NY. I was able to get a last min reservation on a Thursday- however, it wasn't needed since it wasn't busy by the time we came. We both ordered the lasagna bolognese and it was decent. The lasagna layers were cook to perfection but the dish could have used a bit more salt/seasoning. This was nothing a lot salt and pepper shaker couldn't fix. Ordered their $14 Pinot Grigio and it was very tasty. Definitely left the restaurant with a buzz Lastly, the desserts were top tier. At this price, there are better Italian options in New York City. Came with a friend for dinner at 8 on Monday night. We made a reservation on the Yelp app; they said they didn't have it in their system, commenting "We are on OpenTable." In any case, there were many tables free on Monday night for dinner at 8pm. I had a hard time finding a pasta or main dish on the menu that sounded appetizing. The pasta dishes were all around $30, even the vegetarian ones, which in my mind puts this in the $$$ price range (though maybe not for Midtown?) Had arancini appetizer, followed by linguine with lobster tail and asparagus. The arancini was good, crispy and cheesy. The pasta tasted freshly made, but was slightly over cooked (far from al dente), the sauce was bland, and the lobster was tough and flavorless. Also, the parts of the dish (pasta, sauce, asparagus, lobster) seemed thrown together haphazardly, and didn't really come together into a coherent whole. The waiter did not check in on us very often. The space (in the same building as the adjacent hotel) lacked character and had an institutional quality. read more

Sat at the bar and had the grilled squid and prosciutto flat bread. Both were yummy but the squid was the best. Had grilled squid at a couple other places while in New York and this places was the most flavorful and freshest. I think this was a good find close to our hotel. At the bar you can see the flat bread being hand made and put into the woodburning oven which was cool. We enjoyed our light meal here at the bar. I wouldn't say the service was the best we ever had (think the server was upset we sat at the bar and not a table?) but that grilled squid really did it for me so I'll give the benefit of the doubt and would eat here again. read more

As one with many food allergies I have to be careful what and where to eat. My dinner at Bistango a few days ago was excellent. The waitress was extremely attentive to my food allergies and made sure that what I ordered was safe. She suggested modifications to ensure there was no problems. My friend and I each ordered a fish dish to share. Both dishes were sufficiently large portions and both the Red Snapper and the Branzino were excellent. This was the best restaurant meal I've had in many years without a doubt. Also the atmosphere was very pleasant. The restaurant is situated off a elegant hotel lobby. The noise level was acceptable. The seating is not too crowded. And the service was excellent. And the value for what we got was better than most restaurants in the city. Thank you to all at Bistango. I will be back. read more

Mehh..... for my first time here, it wasn't the best experience. Our waiter was awesome though I have to say that at least! However the ambiance is very nice and romantic. The tap water was awful and our food was okay. I had eggplant Parmesan and it wasn't really made the way I usually eat it. Eggplant is such a tricky veggie to master so it's hit or Miss when you order that dish anyways. It didn't come with pasta, just a decent sized perfectly rectangular portion. **This was out of the restaurants control but what did it finally for me was this party of 8 sitting nearby us. They were a strange bunch lol and then all of the sudden, one of the people sitting at the end of the table closest to us, turns his head towards the floor and let's out two huge loud sneezes without covering his mouth and literally having sprays of spit on the floor... it was so unbelievably disgusting and just when I thought it couldn't get any worse he does it again twice and I just turned and stared at him but he wasn't the least bit phased. We stopped by for brunch on a Saturday, this place has out door, heated seating, perfect for the cold and windy NYC weather. The waiters were patient and attentive to our dietary needs (no meat or alcohol). The best thing was the flatbread, thin and crispy, with the perfect sauce to cheese to tomatoes ratio! Paid $4 for Italian bread. Picture is attached. 3 cold pizzas, order of Italian bread- $75 total. Opinion: Absolutely abhorrent. Mind you we are 2 doors down from the restaurant. If they used grubhub, they can take this review up with them. I paid $75 to Bistango and they did not provide a delicious hot meal for that price point. The bread. This wouldn't be free? I made my reservation through Yelp (and apparently was supposed to use OpenTable instead) so our rez was nonexistent and the hostess was exceptionally helpful and found us a spot at the bar. The wait staff and manager were attentive the whole night. The food is outstanding! One in our group was gluten free (celiac) and this is the best place we've eaten at in Manhattan. Flatbreads are great, we got the sausage and peppers as well as the fig and prosciutto. Meatballs, octopus, butternut squash pasta, cavatelli, gluten free bread were all delicious. Enjoyed my light lunch at Bistango. They have a very reasonably priced pre-fixe lunch. Note: it's two courses (one app and one entree) and the wine supplement is only a few bucks more. Grilled Octopus was the appetizer I selected. Great texture and cooked perfectly. Mild seasoning so you got to enjoy it's natural flavors. For main course, I selected the Fig and Speck Flatbread. Beautiful presentation, tasted just as good, and it was a sizeable portion. Good for sharing or for one person. Served on a wooden plank. Definitely coming back to try more stuff. Came to Bistango on a Saturday early evening (430). We'd heard that they had options for allergies which we seek out for our daughter. They did not disappoint. They have many gluten free options but also pasta that's dairy free and avoids ingredients like eggs, soy, sesame, nuts and shellfish. In addition to pastas the flatbread pizzas all use gluten free crusts and the roast potatoes as well. The kids loved them. The staff was also knowledgeable and knew what worked and what didn't which is probably the most important thing. Outdoor seating was also available in a covered area. The food for the adults was great. We shared the meatballs, the cavatelli and seabass which were all very good. They were out of the lasagna which was disappointing. Came on a Friday evening for the first time to Bistango with a friend. It was not too busy and the service was great. I decided to partake in the pre-theater menu (available from 5:00-6:30pm, $37.99 for an appetizer, entree and a glass of house red or white wine or Peroni). My friend is gluten free so this was a perfect place to come as we were told most options on the menu can be made gluten free. Delicious food with a nice ambience, but don't use Yelp for a reservation. They seem to know that it's an issue yet when you walk up and tell them you have a reservation and they can't find it they look at you a little funny. At first, I was not sure because they had a strange combination of top 40 music from a variety of 80's and 90's lol (which I enjoy, I was just surprised it wasn't Italian). We decided to drink some wine and have a few antipasta choices . The wine is very Italian and begins at $50/bottle. Make sure to ask questions and look up the wine styles if you're not familiar. We had a Ruché which is amazing and one of the $50 wine choices. We also had the mussels which were AMAZING. The house made sausage and peppers flatbread blew my mind. Went for dinner mainly to accommodate a friend's dietary requirements. They do cater to people with food allergies. The outdoor space is really clunky and the tables do not appear to be cleaned often I can't speak for the regular service, but our server was terrible. He had the worse attitude, was overly and inappropriately sarcastic and make it seem like he was doing us a huge favor by doing his job. It was a Saturday evening and no one likes to work weekends, but he elected to work for this establishment on a weekend. The food did not all come together; portions were small but was good. Drinks were not good. A friend ordered a Frose and they gave him a Quarter glass portion. We thought it was left overs from another table that accidentally made its way to our table. We asked the waiter and he had the most snarky remark "that's how the bartender makes it. You'll have to check with him". Seriously? We should walk over to the bartender? A fly landed in my wine and he was so quick to bring out a fresh new glass for me. Came here for a business lunch. I had a reservation for 12 pm. Arrived at 11:40 am. There was no one to greet me. Spotted a cook but he said they don't start serving until 12. I worked at the bar until then. We had meatballs and rice balls for appetizer and the eggplant Parm and mixed salad with chicken for entrees Meatballs were delicious. Eggplant park was ok.
