This is a very no-frills kind of a hair salon. The benefit is the price is right and the location (it's in a super cute area of Pasadena by PCC). I actually followed my hair dresser, Mandy, here. It's a little far for me but honestly, she cuts my hair like no other so I don't mind the trek. For the record, I am not in to your basic, boho waves and beachy styles. I am in to a modern shag / mullet vibe (Jayne Matthews and vintage inspired) and Mandy is passionate about these hair styles too!! It's evident, of course, by her rad hair cuts. My natural texture is SUPER straight, so I'm not the best candidate for these styles, yet she makes it fuggin weeeerk!! I don't have amazing photos but here's a selfie from the car leaving Bishops and one of me in some dark light but some added waves to give my shag more texture. As you can see, the haircut looks amazing either way. I had reaaaaally long hair and wanted to go really short, but was a little nervous for such a big change. I really like this place, the stylist are very nice and attentive, but today was the last strike. I travel far to come to this place because I like the service! The reception area has it hiccups, but I stuck it out because of the stylist. It all started when I was about 10 -15 mins late to one of my appointments .. I get it, it's an appointment and other people were waiting. So I lost my appointment I went ahead and reschedule. The second time I travel with enough time and got there early and was seen almost 20 to 30 mins after my appointment! The person before me was not too happy with their haircut, but I waited things happen. I had made an appointment with the same stylist to return in a couple of months later, and got a message that my stylist was out and my appointment had been cancel. When I called to reschedule they could not find me in the system, but after some back and forward they found me and I schedule my appointments for two services. This is always a mix up in their system because they think I book to appointment for myself, which is another chaotic communication problem. An unplanned emergency came up so I had to reschedule. The receptionist said it would be a 50% charge for less than 24 hrs. My appointment was at 11:00am, and I call a little after 11 am because their phone were not turn on at 11:00am on the dot. When I ask for a different day the receptionist said they would still charge me a 50% charge because I am cancelling , even after I ask if I can be reschedule. I was told because of my cancelling history ,which is odd because I made it to all of my appointments, but one they were still going to charge me. I try to explain my appointments were cancel via text and I did not cancel them. In fact I call to reschedule them. Anyhow, it really is a bummer because my daughter and I really like this place! Very frustrating leaving this review as I live around the corner from here. I wanted to be a regular here and was for about 4 months but unfortunately it's 50/50 when trying to get a stylist to cut your hair. Especially if you go in the AM. The first time this happened it was a month ago and I came in about 10 mins after they opened. I walked in and said I wanted a haircut. The receptionist tells me to come back in an hour because the ONLY stylist available was doing a hair color. Which I know takes a while but how is that the ONLY stylist on duty? There should always be at least two stylists working especially for a corporate place like this. It's not a mom and pop shop. Shortly after this, I came in one day and the receptionist promptly checked me in and there were stylists ready. One of them was sitting in the waiting area looking as if she was there against her will. The receptionist asks her do you want to take him? And the stylist goes, no it's fine you can take him. This dance goes on for about another 30 seconds meanwhile I'm standing waiting and feeling as if no one wants to cut my hair. Keep in mind that the stylist who was in the waiting area is the SAME stylist who has cut my hair for the past 3 months. And she doesn't even acknowledge me or say hey welcome back let's get you seated. The last time I attempted to cut my hair I went in when they opened, and it was dark, no lights on. The guy that was there asked what I was there for, I said a haircut, he said he there's no one currently there to cut my hair. Someone called out and they were trying to get a stylist to come in. He would possibly be there in 90mins....possibly. I told him that's ok I can't wait that long. He then says...and wait for it.... " I guess I could cut your hair" Yup. This concludes why I don't go there anymore. If you don't give a s&$t about me, why am I giving you my hard earned money. See you never. UPDATED Have you read your reply? Why would I want to go back there? You are not taking accountability for anything. And you start off your reply on the defensive. Save it for someone else. After moving to Pasadena, it took me a couple different places to find my next haircut spot and then I found bishops! I've gone here 10+ times since and each time I've had a fantastic experience. I have probably have tried at least five different stylists (my schedule varies so can't be consistent with one person lol), and I've yet to be disappointed. I appreciate the inclusivity and diversity of the salon, along with the hospitality that the stylists provide. Oh they also have punchcards for your haircuts, I think the 12th is free? I always forget to bring it in though. Maybe if they could associate the punchcard with a phone number that would be better because I definitely would've had a free cut by now if I didn't always forget it. Very simply the haircut I received here wasn't that bad, but it was really expensive for what it was. The service at this barber shop seemed great, the people were generally friendly and I had a decent chat with the barber. The biggest thing that erked me was that they hit me with hidden fees and my haircut ended up being 10$ more expensive than the posted price. They never once asked me to pay for anything in addition to the haircut... In addition to that I thought it was pretty strange that I had to sign a waiver before the haircut... We had a very similar experience as Veronica C. I called in today 4/28/19 to request an appointment for my boyfriend. The receptionist was very nice on the phone, but being nice doesn't help the fact that our appointment was no longer available. Someone came up to us and said, "Oh unfortunately the guy who was supposed to see you is now off. And everyone else is booked up for the day." Really? Isn't that why you have a receptionist to make sure the appointment would be available? We would NOT have come in. We checked in with said receptionist, waited 20 minutes and were still turned away. Wow. I left with exactly the haircut I imagined. I had a long, incoherent and probably impossible request for my cut and Teshe somehow understood what I was asking for. Less than 20 mins later it was exactly what I'd asked for AND she didnt do any of the fancy blowout stuff so I knew it really did look good, not just day-you-got-the-cut good (although I know some ppl like the fancy blowout part, so something to keep in mind you might have to ask for it). First time here and I will definitely become a regular. The space has such a cool vibe and fun decor. The staff are very friendly and offer a bottle of water to their patrons. My son's hairstylist, Heather, reallput in 110% effort in making sure he had the perfect hair cut. It's definitely one of the best (if not the best) haircuts he's ever received. I'm truly impressed with everything about this place and the people who work here. As a side note, the prices are reasonable, there's free two hour parking in the back, and several restaurants next door should you be inclined to make an afternoon of it.
