Got my hair cut this afternoon by Ross, and it was a wonderful experience. He asked what I was looking for and checked with me before each major change. As a trans guy, I was nervous that I'd be read as female and given a feminine haircut regardless of what I asked for, but Ross immediately started talking to me about masculinizing changes he could make. Overall: Uneven cut and finish, would not recommend even if free. The Good: Looked and felt like a clean and sterile environment The Bad: Uneven cut and finish throughout, including sideburns. The experience was rushed with no sense of care or craftsmanship. Making matters worse, all the employees except for the receptionist were in the backroom resting. This shop is so AWESOME! We were looking for someone to cut our son's hair. Looking for someone to cut his hair is challenging because my son is autistic he has sensory issues and a hard time with new people and places. His appointment was on Saturday September 12 the day before I stopped by to show him the place and allow him to take it in. I also wanted to introduce the guy that was going to be cutting his hair. Everyone at the shop was very accommodating and friendly. The receptionist let the barber know we were there. He walked over and introduced himself to us. Ross from the get go had a great vibe about him. My son started stimming so we let him wander the shop within my range while I talked to Ross about my son. I explained to him how loud noises do bother him, he has sensory issues, has a hard time with new people and new places. Ross asked questions and made suggestions that would help. I said we can try some of them Ross said he would go off my son's cue's. Saturday we showed a little early for his cut right away my son was not having it. Ross asked what he could do to help I asked if it would be possible to put a movie on the TV for him. I told him if Despicable Me was on that woul help, he found it and played it. My son sat on the floor with me. I asked Ross to hand me over the water spray and brush and I would do that to make it easier. Once he calmed down Ross showed him the chair again my son was not having it. Ross said no problem buddy take your time. After 20 minutes my decided to take a station it just wasn't Ross, he sat down for a few minutes. Ross walked over and started combing his hair. I asked if it would be okay to blow some bubbles which would help calm him down. Ross said yeah whatever works. Withing minutes with the help of bubbles Ross started cutting. He was so patient with my son and moved with his movements while cutting his hair giving him time when he needed to. Ross did a great job! He haircut looks so good!! My son now has a barber who we recommend to everyone! Thank you so much Ross for being so patient and kind to our little guy and for going above and beyond to make his cut so smooth. read more

It was my first haircut in the United States and it went perfect I must say because I'm a difficult costumer to please. The staff is very gentle and when I arrived they offered me a beer and a bottle of water which is really nice while you are waiting and walking under the hot sun. I have been coming to this Bishops location for a little over a year. I have always received haircuts by anyone available, but mind you, every time I've had my hair cut and styled here, it has been amazing! Even on one occasion I had a barber that typically does mens haircuts and she still cut and styled my longer hair while taking the time to make sure I was satisfied every step of the way. Andi saw my review and was quick to give me a call and offer a free haircut to fix what was originally done. She made me feel comfortable, worked fast but still explained everything she was doing, asked a ton of questions to figure out what I wanted/needed, and when she started cutting it was obvious how skilled she is. I used to like this place, but it appears to be going downhill. Stylists keep coming and going from this location. I recently received the worst haircut of my life. The stylist was not confident or skilled from start to finish. Slow, uncertain cuts and frequently stopping to show me what he was doing to my hair. It was as if they needed my permission on everything. It legit felt like someone lied about having styling experience and got hired here. I kept telling them what to fix and the response was "that's just the way your hair is." I knew I was in trouble when the person cutting my hair was trying to pawn off their inexperience on me. They also kept asking me how other people cut my hair -- why is that important? It was an hour and 15 minutes of pure dread. Yes, 1 hour and 15 minutes. I am now going to get a 2nd haircut from a stylist who is known for being talented -- and they also recently left Bishops. read more

Everyone at the shop is super friendly! I went in yesterday to get a long haircut from Heather. She is super sweet. However, my hair came out wayyyyy shorter than I wanted it to be. My hair was almost down to my butt when I went in and it is now at the top of my chest. I asked for 3-3.5 inches to be cut (trying to get rid of my dead ends) and over 6 inches was cut. Pretty bummed about it. Aside from that, she did try to be accommodating. I wouldn't have chose the style i did if it knew it was going to be that short. Also, haircuts don't normally include a wash here. It was my first time and I didn't know that, so just a heads up. Really wanted to like this place. read more

About 3-4 weeks ago now i made an appointment for a Friday because i had a big event the next day. I decided i wanted to go lighter ( what my hair would allow because i didn't want to damage it) and a trim . They said they charged by the hour .. seemed a bit pricey but i was willing to pay it because i wanted a good job done. They place was clean and everyone so friendly. I believe i got the manager she was so sweet. Now this has nothing to do with the customer service but i was there the whole day open to close when it came time to tone i heard her tell a coworker she didn't have the one she needed but she did a mixture. I had to leave so i told her she didn't need to style my hair it was okay. I left with my hair wet and it looked great but when i got home and $455 later i noticed my hair was different colors of blonde ! I don't cry but i cried it looked awful. The next day i had to go to another salon to see if there was anything they could do since i had an event that evening and there was no way i was going out like that. They cut my hair a little more so you couldn't see the different tones of blonde as much. She re colored my hair and it looks a lot better now but you could still see lighter tones plus i had to pay more. I called Monday or Tuesday of the following week to tell them what happened and politely told them i was not trying to be unfair and ask for my money back but i did think it was only fair to get reimbursed for what i had to pay to get my hair fixed ! I have pictures and saved the receipt. The girl told me she would speak to a manager and they would reach out to me, she verified my name, email and phone number and almost 4 weeks later i still have not heard back. Just got my hair cut, colored, and deep conditioned by Randy Madden and I LOVE it! I previously got a balayage at another salon a few months ago and the color was getting to that orangey/brassy color that most of us dread. To be honest, I'm not loyal to the previous hairstylists I've gone to because they all overcharge for a choppy haircut and never get the color I want right, so a girl can't commit to that. I saw that Randy had some pretty good reviews at another salon, so I gave him a call and found out that he now works at Bishop. I called on Monday and he scheduled me in on Tuesday at 6 pm. Randy really took the time to explain everything he did and why he made the recommendations he did. So nothing was a surprise, except how much I loved my hair! I was a little hesitant on the color he recommended, but loved the end result. He really knew what he was talking about. And the haircut was perfect, the layers seem to blend and flow nicely, not choppy. Randy is such a character too, love it! Made the whole experience relaxing and fun. Also, his assistant (I didn't get her name) was the sweetest. She was gentle when washing my hair but still gave a nice massage and wash. Overall, if you're looking for a stylist or just someone to cut and color your hair right at a reasonable price, give Randy a try. Do not go here. Save yourself. I showed my stylist a picture of the undercut design I wanted and she completely screwed it up. They were extremely nice and welcoming, but the skill level was just non-existent, at least for designs and buzzes. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. Luckily I'm not that mad because it'll grow back quickly, but I would've much rather Heather tell me she couldn't do that design instead of forcing me to wear my hair down for the next few weeks out of embarrassment. While my son was just not having it and we attempted to calm him down I sit on the floor to get to his level in order for him to calm down. I went as soon as the salon reopened this week, I wanted to try since I live walking distance from it. I booked a hair cut to freshen up my cut and a color consultation to add fun color to my hair. Heather was my stylist and I think I will stick with her. She is knowledgeable, but at the same time won't force you to do anything that you don't want to (as many do). She did my blunt cut exactly how I wanted it, and really paid attention when I asked to cut only the damaged ends without touching the lengths too much. My hair now looks a lot healthier. I asked for teal hidden streaks in my hair, but Heather immediately recognized that she couldn't obtain that color in one seat or my hair would be over-processed. So she gave me blue streaks and told me to go back to try and go lighter. I had experience of burned hair due to people trying to bleach out my hair white on the first sitting, so I liked that. And instead of blindly put the darker color I chose (a petrol green), she advised me that she thought a green would give me a muddy hair color, and put a night blue instead. It really turned out nice. After one wash my hair shows a slight green hue anyways, since the blue was put to cover the bright orange that came out after the first round of bleach. And yellowish+blue makes green. I really like it, it is exactly the in-between-color I wanted. Also, she has a really bubbly, nice personality, but if you are reserved she will respect that, which is much appreciated. I used to get a haircut in Oldtown for twice as much by an asian barber since I assumed that she would know how to deal with asian hair better but she just messed my hair up so bad. Also, not to mention that finally someone just did justice to my hair. Laurel has so much knowledge when it comes to dealing with asian hair even better than asian barbers.
