We went to. Rasar State Park to explore. We planned on the Birdsview. Diner. Unfortunately it was closed for the day. Thought we would try. Birdsview Brewing. Company. The atmosphere is very nice. The food not so much. The burgers were 'meh'. Didn't finish my Jalepeño Burger. The Classic Burger for my partner was equally 'meh'. The Ultimate Club was anything but. $20? Definitely not worth it.

Great vibe!

This is a great place to stop on the way to or from the North Cascades for cold beer, good food and often live music too. There's a chill vibe inside and lots of seating outside too.

Ahhhh....Lemon Shandy

I love to support local businesses and when we found ourselves in the Birdsview area near Concrete, WA, we saw Birdsview Diner so I looked them up on the web and found out they are a father-daughter brewing business with food and music and have great reviews. We stopped by one night about an hour before they closed and I had a Lemon Shandy and burger. Wife had a burger and iced tea and daughter had a cider and pretzel knots and a green salad. The food was great. The burger was very good and the Lemon Shandy beer was super flavorful and, of course, lemony. We ate outside in the back under some shade and admired all the handmade gazebos, music stage and other knick knacks. Beautiful area for kicking back and getting some refreshments. There was no live music the night we stopped as it was a weekday and they seem to have the live music on Friday and Saturday nights. I'll be back one day when they have live music. Thanks Birdsview for filling a need out this way!

Food was good, and server was very nice and provided excellent service. But this sign is one of the most cringey things I've seen in recent memory. Offensive, thoughtless and completely un-called for. "I drink beer like fat kids eat cake" Making fat jokes about anyone, including adults, is mean to begin with, but to make fun of children is just wack. Making fun of CHILDREN? Really? Wow. That kind of thing is most certainly the kind of thing that contributes to child and teen depression. Mental health issues are no joke, and to make fun of CHILDREN and think nothing of it is really weak. Show some class.

Cons: going on a rafting trip, rafting company recommended this place. We were a bit nervous getting out of the car. Place in the middle of no where. They had just opened and we were the first customers. We weren't expecting too much based on the looks of the place. We were wrong. Pros: ordering was easy. Menu was very limited. Shared a burger. We've been sharing food this whole trip. Really cuts down on the over eating. When the burger arrived, we knew it would be good. Huge party, well seasoned. I asked for no cheese, but it still arrived with some. Turned out to cheddar which is usually low lactose. It didn't cause any trouble on our trip. I got a passion fruit hard seltzer. It was delicious! They don't have chips here, just bags of kettle chips. But the nice thing is they brought us two bags and a knife to cut our burger. So thoughtful and very nice. I appreciated. My husband bought a cute t shirt. Plenty of parking. Accepts credit cards.

I first fell in love with Birdsview before I ever even visited. I found them at the Anacortes Bier on the Pier festival and they were pouring their ahhhmazing Cardiac Arrest stout. It was so good we ended up driving out to the brewery a few weeks later to have a pint of this delicious maltiness. Since then, I've made it a point to stop at Birdsview whenever I find myself traveling along the North Cascades Highway. The interior is small, so (during covid) all seating is outdoors. Luckily they have a spacious beer garden behind the main building. Their beers vary (they didn't have my beloved Cardiac Arrest on my most recent visit, so I settled for a cold Amber), and they do offer food which I've never tried. But it smelled good! Bonus points for their friendly service and taking covid precautions super seriously. The irreverent sign collection on the walls is worth checking out too!

What a charming place! They are doing great navigating Covid right now and are doing it with smiles behind their masks Our family was staying down the road and found this place. We knew we wanted to try it. We were greeted and waited for a table. A couple was at a four top and graciously offered to switch to a two top for our family. So nice! I had the Turkey on rosemary bread... holy wow! I also ordered the pineapple cider. The smoothest cider I've ever had!!! Would definitely recommend for cider lovers. My husband at the jalapeño burger and said it was amazing. We also ordered pretzels and both kids loved them. We would 100% recommend this place for anyone visiting this area.

This was a pleasant surprise. We ordered the Brat, Pesto and Tomato Grilled Cheese, and the Jalapeno burger. We ordered the 7 Barrel IPA. Maybe we were super hungry...because at first glance...food was meh. But it tasted really great! Cheese was melted. Brat was delicious and the burger was piled high with toppings. Great stop after hiking.

Snotty server: "Can I get you something to drink?" "Do you have a homemade rootbeer?" (as many breweries do) "No" "Do you have mineral water?" "No" "Do you have a non-alcoholic beverage list?" "No" "I don't drink alcohol so it'd be nice to know what my options are" "WE'RE A BREWERY AND THERE'S LIMITED SPACE FOR OUR MENU!" (Nevermind the place looks like American Pickers paradise) "Um, OK. it'd sure be nice if the beverage options were on your menu" "WE HAVE LIMITED SPACE ON OUR MENU TOO" I guess they don't know about fonts in Bumpkincrete, I mean Concrete, WA. Thanks for embarrassing me in front of my customers. You gotta wonder about an establishment that has a "not responsible for accidents or injuries" sign. I've only ever seen those at dumps. PS-"mineral water" is San Pellegrino. Paddle faster, I hear banjos.

SasScoth Ale

When we were posted up at the Big Rock Roadhouse hours before, another patron suggested we try this place after we were done treasure hunting (Geocaching) for the day. So we did. The space is intimate so it was seat-yourself. I ordered the SasScotch Ale to wash down my meatloaf sandwich. The service was decent, definitely not over the top friendly. Not sure if it was not being a local, frequent patron, or an off-day for her. Regardless, we happily ate our food and killed beers. Then we set out to find the geocache hidden on the property.

Rockport Bar is the only local food spot in town. My Airbnb was conveniently next door to this bar,…read moreso after a long day at North Cascades, I was rushing over. Environment: It is important to note that no minors are allowed into the establishment. The server asked for my ID as soon as I entered. It looks like the bar has music and bingo on some nights. The bar was filled with locals only. Service: The server welcomed me in and I got to pick any table I wanted. She was overall very nice. Food: I was disappointed that they had no more burgers around 7pm, so I ordered the wings and meat pizza. I could tell that the wings were freshly made- I would have preferred if they were crispier but they were decent. The chicken itself lacked some salt but nothing that the blue cheese couldn't fix. The pizza wasn't bad, it reminded me of Domino's pizza.

Oh, and the campground, which is where we often spend a lovely North Cascades weekend and which is how we found our new favorite dive bar. Yes, it's sort of a dive. So if you don't like dive bars, you're out of luck and may as well just stay at your campsite. But if you don't mind the quaint anti-sophistication of dated decor, strong drinks, and hit-and-miss food you've come to the right place. Usually, we're here on the weekends so we just get a beer. And they've got some decent local taps - along with some requisite 'Merican classics like Bud Lite. We usually settle in with a couple of pints from Georgetown Brewing, and enjoy whatever the pub is offering that night. If you happen to come on one of their legendary Thursday comedy nights, you might be surprised at the level of comedic genius you hear. Especially if you can get past the often shellshocked comedians who make the eternally long and tedious drive from Seattle to perform here. On Fridays, they have bingo and karaoke. And on Saturdays, there's almost always a live band. Sundays, they've got brunch and $6 bloody marys. Like I said, there's always something to do at the only place in town to do anything! I haven't always loved their food, but recently we decided to give their burger a try and it was pretty good. They also have some decent-looking pizzas. I wouldn't recommend the tacos, if you happen to be there on taco Thursday (though they do have a kick-ass margarita special that night)!

We ordered burgers and I asked for my fries 5x crispy. The cook adhered to my request and honestly exceeded my expectations. The burgers were stellar. Well assembled, not overly greasy, patties slightly charred at the edges and they didn't fall apart. Reasonably priced as well. Exactly what we were looking for, exceeding expectations for a small town, local restaurant. Service and food were so good we returned on 5/10. This time we ordered a pizza, burger and onion rings. The pizza dough was pretty undercooked on the bottom. The crust was done well however. I will give the benefit of the doubt and attribute it to a fluke as the service remained amazing and the rest of the food was outstanding. The burger maintained its rating from the previous days meal. The onion rings were fantastic. Perfectly fried and crispy/crunchy. I was able to break them in half/bite off a piece and the breading remained stuck to the onion. Also, if you're a Bigfoot enthusiast, this is your kind of place (I'm a Bigfoot enthusiast). Being mainly a tourist town, Friday Harbor isn't necessarily the greatest of dining destinations…read more Many of the establishments cater to the 'one and done' tourist crowd, but Van Go's Pizza is a real gem that has the chops to maintain a devoted regular clientele. THE ROSES: Located a block off the main drag in Friday Harbor, VGP is situated in a cozy, peaceful space. On nice days I highly recommend dining in the garden space out back. The salads and pizzas are excellent; they only do a relatively thin crust pizza, but it is done perfectly, and the toppings are of excellent quality. They have a very good selection of pizzas on offer; all the 'usual suspects', and a very creative selection of their own concoctions. For the GF crowd, they also offer a very nice 10" GF crust. Very good selection of wines, ciders, and beers (both bottle and tap). The staff is truly delightful; friendly and very efficient. They really leave you feeling that they appreciate your business. THE THORNS: The menu seems a little limited in that it appears to be just pizza and salads, but I think I'd rather dine in a place that does a few things really well rather than one that has a menu that's 'A jack of all trades but master of none'. THE VERDICT: Van Go's Pizza is a real standout on the Friday Harbor casual dining scene. It definitely worth the short walk up from the ferry landing and away from the tourist traps. Highly recommend!

Such a GREAT find in "the middle of nowhere" (for us city dwellers it's a pretty out-there drive)…read more Hubs likes to drive, I like to find good food. Put that together and you will end up here! This place has it all. We went on a Saturday and it was quiet with a slow trickle of people coming in and leaving. Great classic country playing. They brew their own beer and have a pretty extensive list. They have ciders too! Also, you can get a flight. It's not listed on their menu, but if you ask, they do flights of 6. That's what we got. (3 ciders and 3 beers). Beers and ciders were awesome! I wish I took a picture of the beer list so I could tell you the best, but the jalapeño one was fun and actually paired really well with my flatbread, the black currant ginger cider was DELICIOUS and our favorite beer wassss...a mixed berry bush? Lol something like that. Look for the berry one. The food was OUTSTANDING. Literally top 3 best pizzas I've ever had. My husband got the '3 Rivers' and like a piece of art, I had to sit and process the complexity of flavors with each bite. The thing is, I HATE pineapple on pizza. Absolutely despise it. But I gave this one a shot anyway and oh, my, goodness! THE best!! I got the "Tilly" and it was quite delicious, but the 3 Rivers is where it's at! It's quickly become one of our favorite stops when we're camping in the area, and is a great place to stop in, drink a pint or two, and enjoy a game of cribbage. Bonus if it's a sunny day and we can enjoy their lovely beer garden. What really sets River Time apart is their delish food. We're in major "like" with their Three Rivers pizza. It's a flatbread-style pie, prepared on-site in their tiny kitchen area, and features all sorts of yumminess. Whenever we go, we think we're going to try a different pizza this time. Nope, we always end up with the Three Rivers! As someone who appreciates a maltier beer, I appreciate that they always have an amber or red ale on tap. On our most recent visit, I tried their new copper ale which was delish. They also have cider on tap if you're not a beer lover. And the staff is soooo friendly, too!
