Worst breakfast food I've ever had. Stayed at Best Western so go free complimentary breakfast. Will never go back.

Yummy breakfast and lunch spot. I had a grilled cheese and fries. They were tasty (not that either of those are hard lol) Husband had waffles, bacon and eggs. The waffle was delicious!! I'll def be getting the waffle next time. We will be bak to this new brunch spot. A few things to keep in mind: they have strange hours m-f 6am-11am, sat 6am-11:30am, Sunday 6am-2pm. On Sundays the church crowd comes in around noon so try to beat them there. read more

So glad we stopped in this past Sunday! We had a party of 8 heading back home to Houston- when we saw how small it was inside we didn't know what to expect but this place is a total gem!! The interior takes me back to breakfast at Grandmas house (don't go if you have a rooster phobia lol) good strong coffee and awesome southern cooking! Every single thing we ordered was perfection! The biscuits and sausage gravy were some of the best we've ever had, the fluffy pancakes were delicious and the eggs were perfectly cooked! The breakfast options in Palestine are limited. I was happy that my fellow Yelp users got this right other than I read one review that it was attached to the Best Western. The cafe is in it's own building in front of the motel. It was a good breakfast. My eggs were cooked perfect and my boyfriends pancakes were delicious. The service was excellent. Again my complaints come down to decor. I felt like I was in my grandma's house in the 80's. I also did feel somewhat uncomfortable being in there and not being a local. The locals were very vocal with each other and would come to one another's table and gossip with each other and occasionally look over to see if they knew us. You will not be disappointed with this place for it's food. read more

I absolutely love this mom and pop, hole in the wall, type diner in Palestine, TX. It is an absolute jewel of a find when on a road trip to the area. My son and I recently dined here for the second time on our second visit to the Polar Express. The meal was included with our stay at the neighboring Best Western Inn, another great find. It was an absolute madhouse as there were a ton of people in the area for the Polar Express experience. Despite being super busy, and a little bit of a wait to be seated as this place is very tiny, I found the service to be excellent. All of the staff was very friendly and accommodating. They even allowed for a substitution on a breakfast for my son as he is a very picky eater. My coffee cup was never empty. As for the food itself, it was delicious. The pancake that my son received was huge! I plan to dine here again on future visits to the area. My only suggestion would be to pack your patience as this establishment is very small and can get very busy particularly when local attractions are busy as well. read more

We stayed at the BW so we used the voucher. Our breakfast was just the way we ordered it. It was full with the locals. Seeing how they shared the tables with each other and hearing all of hometown greeting each other was priceless. This might be a tiny little place but the heart of it is huge. read more

I wanted to update this rating because of the Sunday lunch specials. They are so like what would be considered fresh home made, from the Chicken Fried Steak (the real thing), Pot Roast, Meat Loaf (well seasoned and with a tomato sauce glaze), Fried Chicken, Pork Chops to Chicken and Dumplings. It changes weekly - best to check their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Birds-Egg-Cafe/115894421773888) to find out. Meat entree, 2 veggies (mashed potatoes and green beans are a constant, but then they have a third choice which might be anything from butter beans to cabbage to pinto beans or fried okra, etc),, dessert (anything from cobbler to fudge iced nut brownies to banana nut bread with icing, etc.),, and either Texas Toast or wonderful Corn Bread Muffins. Lately we have been getting it take out, since it is about the time hubby gets off work. Well worth the reasonable price, and good food. Can't beat that. Their Chicken Fried Steak is so good that we ordered that on a week day morning! Just yum. And that isn't counting that they still know how to make a good breakfast, and know how to COOK an egg just the way you like it. And yes, still the best coffee around. read more

This is just a great place to go and relax, and you never run out of coffee I can assure you that as a guarantee. The biscuits, the eggs and gravy it's all good! The waffles are great and those pancakes which are a good size are good. Great service, two can go pay up and tip and STILL you would have spent under 20 bucks. Food was good, nothing super spectacular, but not bad either. The service was prompt once we sat ourselves, but not super friendly at all. No "welcome", "can I help you", "be right with you", "seat yourself", anything, strange! A friendly customer actually informed us we could seat ourselves and even offered to share her booth with my husband and I as they were fairly full. We didn't end up needed to but appreciated the one helpful person there! Coffee....blah, terrible to me. Although my husband thought it was fine. Two sips from me, and I had enough. Wouldn't probably pick this place personally but if you're looking for the breakfast basics and don't care about the other above stuff, nor picky about coffee, then you'll be good! read more

After reading reviews, having fasted for blood test, my wife and I had breakfast. The service was ok. The waitress did it all running all over, except cooking, there were still 3 dirty tables. Food good not that great...normal...eggs are eggs right? Pancakes not home made mix, some box mix, not real tasty. Coffee run of mill nothing to rave about. Probably never go back. read more

We were just passing through town and wanted a quick breakfast. The Bird's Egg was a great surprise. Really fluffy scrambled eggs and great bisquit with gravy. The home cooking lunch menu sounded great too and we look forward to trying that on the next trip. read more

Stopped here while traveling and I'm glad we did! Excellent classic breakfast cafe. We knew it was going to be good when we walked in to notice the local breakfast club gathers here for good food and conversation. The meal was cooked to perfection and came out in a timely manner. The good ~ Food ~ Pancakes were delicious, light & the right size. Hashbrowns good, bacon was average. Scrambled eggs were as they should be. The portions are small but the price was average $5.50 a plate, so if you're hungry, orders extra items. The bad (& why we would not return when passing through). From the moment we walked through the door, we did not receive one smile, hello, friendliness at all. We are not local, but are your avg looking early 60's couple (we were not staying at the motel either). The 2 waitresses appeared to not want to be there (one of which I think is an owner). I'm sorry but if you are open to the public (& outsiders), you ought to make patrons feel comfortable. Their FB page seemed so fun, I was looking forward to going to support local businesses. Next time, there are several other places to try. edited to add: Just re-read previous reviews which rave about the friendly service. Perhaps they had just gotten bad/sad news, I don't know. Stopped for brunch yesterday on our way back to Austin from OK. We were a bit apprehensive at first, but completely enjoyed our brunch. The food was tasty and reasonably priced. Apparently all the local seniors already know this. The service was great and we all received a dessert at no cost because they were closing and had extra. Down home cooking! Very neat little place. Went there because we stayed at the hotel and a breakfast was included in the price. Just a short walk (outside your hotel room) and you're in the door. I'd really like to know the eating profile of Yelpers who have rated this highest b/fast place in Palestine TX. My experience was the total opposite. All was swimming in grease. Even the toast was greasy! I almost feel bad about my low rating b/c the waitstaff looked like someone's granny, friendly and eager to please. But I got a horrid stomach ache after this meal, so will not be back and can't recommend this place. read more

Where have people been eating to rate this good food? Over easy egg cooked to solid yolk, biscuit small & had been sitting awhile. Ask for gravy get bowl with tablespoon cold gravy for $2. Disappointed as I expected a little better quality of food for "home cooking" I had biscuits and gravy, and was just really simple and average. Grandkids, pancakes and eggs. Again nothing special. Coffee was just truck stop quality. Service was good, perhaps my expectations were to high for "home cooking". I wouldn't marry a woman that couldn't cook better than that.
