Good food, reasonable prices and big-time small town country charm were all in abundance here! Friendly wait staff AND fellow customers... Three folks from different tables all took up conversations with us at different times. Service was prompt. We would definitely return here if we are even passing near Palestine, TX again.

Pkasters! Not sure the reason you would come to Palestine TX. But if you are, definitely stop here! You remember the show Cheers? Walking through the door, you feel like Norm. Everyone says hello including the other people eating there. Definitely not a place to be incognito. You will most definitely enjoy great conversation while you eat. It feels like everything you hear good about E. Texas and the food is tasty! Pancakes was my favorite and the grits was made right. Too bad it closes at 11:00am. Put on your list of go-to spots and tell them Pk sent you!

I love dining at the Bird's Egg Cafe! Home cooking made easy! Whether it's breakfast or lunch, you won't be disappointed. This is the only breakfast spot I eat at when I am in the area. Wanda and her crew will take good care of you. The vibe here is homey & cozy. Expect to be greeted by someone at every occupied table. This is where the locals go and they are a friendly bunch!

Visiting family who just moved to this area and decided to stop in for breakfast. Just keep in mind they close at 11a! Quirky little diner with lots of rooster decor and a little counter to buy some doodads and souvenirs. Here they serve typical American breakfast foods like eggs, pancakes, bacon, etc. Very low prices. Friendly service, waited a reasonable amount of time for our meals. Everything was of decent quality, except one of our water glasses had stuff floating in it. Would return.

    Enjoying the waffle.

Sadly could not eat here. A sign on the door alerts people that their food is unsafe for anyone with basically any kind of food allergy.

Hash browns were a tad oily for me, but my husband thought they were perfect, very crispy.

We went as far as Lake Athens to the Athens Boathouse Bar and Grill (which we knew was closed), to check out the location. We tooled around Athens just enjoying the Sunday. Having been to the Fisheries and the Botanical Garden before, we were looking for a different place to stop. A quiet offbeat place with food and sweet treats was what I had in mind. Callaways Coffee and Bistro popped up as a little house with adorable photos and lovely reviews and off we went. It was perfect. They have REAL FOOD here. I tried to reproduce the menu, but seriously they have pages of breakfast, salads and sandwiches. And COFFEE, of course. I had this amazing 100% Angus patty Cheeseburger - an enormous perfectly cooked patty. ($9.95) My husband ordered the Ragun Cajun, a spicy Chicken breast on ciabatta that he loved. ($9.95) They still had pie, blondies, cookies and assorted yummy sweet treats under glass. I had the Buttermilk pie with a Tender crust and totally delicious filling! ($2.75) Our server was a terrific young man; personable, helpful and a good cook! We had a good time. The bathroom is Unisex and clean. There is plenty of seating. We sat at a regular dining table, but there are plenty of tables for two or three in addition to chairs and sofas. Most parking is street side. I'm looking forward to coming back!

The store feels like walking into a family reunion with all the homemade goods that grandma brings and wine with relatives. Overall, the store felt warm. Cooper Farms had samples of their fruit wine, jams, and salsa out for those who were intrigued by the interesting flavors, like the peach salsa. My friend tried out the white peach wine and said the wine went down smoothly and had a delicious taste that could be dangerous if you are not counting how many glasses you are having. We ended up buying 3 bottles of wine ($22 but buy 2 or more get them for $20 each), a peach ice cream, and a peach milkshake for the road. Cooper Farms had stands of baked goods like pumpkin pie, pecan pie, peach cobbler, and so much more. The store opens up to multiple tables of snacks when you walk in and a jam/ salsa wall on your right. Food Review: Peach Ice Cream (5/5) I would recommend this to anyone who walks through the doors. I was expecting a sorbet peach but was surprised to taste cinnamon and a nutty flavor in my ice cream. The small portion was enough to keep me full for the rest of our roadtrip back to Houston. Peach Milkshake (5/5) The peach milkshake are for the drivers who can't active scoop and eat ice cream. The milkshake was just a blended version of the ice cream. It was a perfect to-go drink if you wanted to try their ice cream but need to focus on the road. Overall, I would love to come back here with family and have them try the ice cream. Next time, I would like to try out their baked goods. 10/10 would recommend!

Absolutely delicious ice cream for $4? I couldn't be happier. Also decided to grab some other goodies. They had so many soda options. I bought the peach mango salsa because they had some free samples and goodness was it tasty that I had to bring some home for myself! For $7.99 I think that's pretty reasonable. When picking out the fried pie, staff was really nice and helped me picked a pie and she recommended that I microwave the pie to make it a little warm, but it is ready to eat as is. She says she leaves it in her fridge and eats a piece day by day for up to a week! I like eating something a little sweet everyday so I'm going to take her up on that advice for sure cause I know I can't eat that whole pie in one sitting. Haven't tried the other stuff but I look forward to it. Might stop by here again on my Dallas to houston journeys !
