Food was good, service was efficient and friendly. Pricing was fair. Atmosphere was a little too packed for my preference. We did go on a Sunday morning, around 10, so we expected it to be full, but the way the tables are arranged you're practically sharing a table with your neighbor and there is no room to walk or space to have even a remotely private conversation. Friendly service! You can take a seat anywhere and they will be right there ready to serve you :) They close early (11am) except for Sundays when they serve lunch til 1:30! We got the western omelet with hashbrowns and toast and a club sandwich with fries (50 cents more than if you got chips). It's a solid stop if you're on the road for a meal! read more

Everyone says hello including the other people eating there. Definitely not a place to be incognito. You will most definitely enjoy great conversation while you eat. We had a perfect southern breakfast here today. It's a small mom and pop kinda place. Kitschy in decor, small, maybe 16 tables,BUT! Quirky little diner with lots of rooster decor and a little counter to buy some doodads and souvenirs. The breakfast was good but the atmosphere was super weird. It's a fairly big place. As we walked in, it was pretty crowded but unusually quiet for a crowded place. Our waiter just stood at the end of the table for a minute. I had to ask if he was taking our order. He responded...."yea, what do you want". We told him. He didn't write it down, so I thought "this won't be good" but he almost got it right, only missing our sausage. The lady behind the cash register sat and stared at us the whole time (no judgement, maybe she knew we were not locals). All I have to say is, when we are traveling (either on motorcycle or by vehicle) we enjoy eating at local places. If we aren't comfortable (or feel welcomed) in local places I find on yelp, I need to let others know. Because I live in Palestine , and have never eaten at The Bird's Egg, today was the day to change that. First thing I noticed, was that every parking place was filled. That's usually a good sign ! I waited just a minute and a car backed out where I could park. When I entered the restaurant, I was greeted and told to seat myself. That wasn't hard , since there was only one table not taken. The Bird's Egg was very busy , lots of visiting and your general early morning crowd. I order two eggs over easy , two pieces of bacon , two biscuits and hash browns. What a cute and friendly spot, perfect for breakfast. We almost missed it--a small spot close to the road surrounded by a motel. Cheerful decor and a homey feel, with plenty of regulars bantering with the servers. Our server, Amber, was wonderful, and didn't flinch when we asked if we could get our biscuits split and grilled to warm up. So many diners brag about their home-cooked biscuits, then warm them in the microwave, totally ruining the texture. These biscuits, heated on the grill, were delicious, especially served with their local honey. Scrambled eggs were good, with my husband's well-done as he prefers and mine, thankfully, cooked normally. Bacon nice and crisp and flavorful. Hash browns were a tad oily for me, but my husband thought they were perfect, very crispy. This little country café is truly a hidden gem. I loved every aspect of this place! The classic country chicken theme and all! I had the Biscuits and gravy and of course a sweet tea. This place is super good. I received a voucher for a hotel for a breakfast and was excited to try it before my training for TDCJ. THE PANCAKES ARE TO DIE FOR! Some of the best cakes I've ever had. Are we glad that we ate here! Restaurant was crowded. But the people here were warm. Only table available was a shared table with eight seats. My wife and I dined. We got to meet six interesting people. We loved talking with them. They were all local people, as were most of the diners in the restaurant. The food arrived quickly and it was a superbly home cooked type food. I had four large pancakes. My wife said that her pancakes were unusually excellent. Also had a huge waffle and a hot roast beef with gravy on bread. All the food was superb. The servings were large and the prices were reasonable. The gravy had some tasty seasoning. The beef was seasoned perfectly. If you like "social distancing" this will not be for you. We do not practice social distancing and it was great not to have to do that. The walls of the restaurant were full of local designer dishes. Things that grandmothers would make. We were able to get a parking space, though the restaurant was packed. How good is this place? Well, every morning, seven days a week, I get my breakfast there. We have a breakfast crew that cusses and discusses just about everything. The restaurant owner and her grandson were doing a masterful job of waiting all the tables and from the conversations, many of the patrons knew each other and it felt like you were at home having breakfast with friends. We kept overhearing patrons talk about salmon cakes and the owner explained that they were an off menu specialty. We had finished our breakfast, but she insisted on bringing us 2 cakes to go as a complimentary snack for later! This spot has very friendly staff and good breakfast staples, however, I mark it down because none of the staff or customers were wearing masks. A customer without a mask was walking around the restaurant from table to table greeting her friends, coughing loudly. None of the staff or servers asked her to wear a mask while not at her table. No cleanliness was enforced. Syrup, honey, and salsa were left on the tables and NOT sanitized in between guests. This seems to be a local favorite in Palestine. It's attached to the Best Western and as a guest at the hotel we received free set-breakfast vouchers. It's cute inside-decorated with chickens (hence, "Bird's Egg Cafe".) The food is pretty good and the service is great! Very homey. read more

This cafe does not disappoint, we came in to enjoy a late Mother's Day breakfast. A packed parking lot is always a great sign. I enjoyed the 2 egg breakfast with bacon, hash browns, and toast. Everything was cooked in homestyle fashion and absolutely delicious, while the staff was friendly and helpful. We had meal vouchers from our Best Western hotel for breakfast. It was great! A very little diner. Everything was good. I had grits, eggs, bacon, and toast. My hubby had sausage and it was great!
