We door dashed bbq spareribs ribs , chicken & broccoli, crab Rangoon & egg rolls . The chix & broccoli was extremely Bland lacking any flavor whatsoever & the broccoli was very over cooked almost mushy. The spareribs were dry & overcooked. We came here for lunch. I'd seen a comment on a thread on FB regarding good Chinese restaurants and bookmarked this place for a future visit. There was one young gal working and she greeted and seated us; she also waited on the entire room by herself and took our payment at the end. They have a smaller lunch menu. I chose one of the combos and my husband opted for a soup and an appetizer. The combos came with a choice of soup -- wonton or egg drop. I chose the wonton. It was okay. My husband liked his hot and sour soup as it had water chestnuts in it. It was decent, but not great. The crispy noodles on the table were overcooked, that is hard and dark brown. For my entree, I chose their pork egg foo yung. There were two huge patties stuffed with bean sprouts and pork pieces. They were good along with the accompanying brown sauce. I wound up sharing some with my husband as it was a large portion. You could have fried rice or white rice, too, and I chose white. Stopped in for a Chinese lunch and looked over the Lunch Specials being offered. I was trying to be good before a doctor's appointment next week so I just had the Hot and Sour soup and a egg roll. What can I say? I guess Bird Nest Tree does not hit like it used to. I have been going to Bird Nest Tree since 2021, as I enjoy good Chinese food and for a good amount of time, it fit the bill. However, as of late, it has started to slip off a bit, mainly due to inconsistencies with the food , which while OK, is not quite what it used to be. While Bird Nest Tree is not bad, I have discovered better Chinese restaurants, like Golden Pavilion in Jupiter, closer to my work, which makes the inconsistency all the more glaring. The one thing that has remained consistent is the atmosphere, which evokes sit down Chinese restaurants common in the New York City Area, especially those that came about around the 1950s. Entering Birds Nest, you will find that to the left of the host/hostess stand, there is a large fish tank that greets you, just like in the Chinese restaurants of yore. To the left of the host/hostess stand, you then enter the dining room, which has plush booths lining the left and right sides of the restaurant, tables in the dining room, and hanging light fixtures from the ceiling. Overall, the atmosphere of Birds Nest has me waxing nostalgic. Additionally, Birds Nest is as clean as ever, which is excellent! As far as the food goes, it has usually been hit or miss as of late. When I go here, I usually steer towards poultry or seafood dishes. The quality of the proteins used are fine for the most part, but its the preparation of the dishes, namely in the spicing where the inconsistencies have cropped up. As far as seafood goes, I have enjoyed the Garlic Shrimp, which use medium size shrimp and are served with mixed vegetables in a piquant and garlicky sauce. Although the chicken in the Szechuan Chicken is juicy and tender, I have found that although the pepper-based sauce is supposed to be spicy, it has been kind of on the bland side, marring the dish, especially in comparison to other Chinese restaurants where I have had the same dish. Another dish that I used to like, but I am not a fan of as much would be the Whole Fish, as it has been far more bones than meat (I understand whole fish has bones, but where's the beef er fish?), which is a shame as it is served in a fragrant ginger-based sauce. As far as dishes I still enjoy, I would say the Chicken Mei Fun, which has juicy and tender chicken and sharp scallions served over pleasantly chewy thin rice mei fun noodles is one of these dishes. Additionally, although it is a treat, the Roast Duck, which are pieces of tender duck that also have a crispy and pleasantly greasy skin. The Roast Duck is served with a sweet and salty hoisin sauce as well as sharp scallions. As far as the service goes, it is not quite as good as it once was, namely due to the departure of Jackson, who was an outstanding waiter thanks to his larger than life personality and precision at the job of waiting tables. The other waitress I have dealt with, whose name escapes me, is not bad by any means, but not in the same league as Jackson. Judy, the Owner, is as nice and hardworking as ever though. Price wise, Birds Nest is in line with other Chinese restaurants in the Boynton-Delray-Boca Area. While I appreciate Birds Nest nostalgic atmosphere as well as its convenience, I feel a three star or "OK" rating by Yelp standards sums up this place best these days, as the food, while OK for the most part, is imperfect and better options exist. read more

Sit down Chinese restaurant. You could do worse. We had cold sesame noodles which were not too bad. Tasted pretty good. I had sweet and sour shrimp, with the sauce on the side. Hard to do anything really wrong to this. Deep fried shrimp, sauce was pretty good. Also ordered egg foo young. They forgot the gravy (this was a takeout order). I mean, EFY is an omelet. It made my companion happy, but seriously, theres nothing Chinese about that all. Even less so than the other stuff we ordered. But whatever. Everyone was happy with their food. Interesting 3.5 Service excellent (especially since it was packed for Christmas eve). That was key to rating Food was basically American Chinese. But we had mu shu beef, lo mein, and sesame beef. The mu shu was actually quite good. (And large). The sesame beef was good, but smaller portion. We came here for dinner and we were pleasantly surprised.I am not used to having decent Chinese food in Delray. I even ordered something off the menu - mah po to fu - it's one of my favs - and they did a good job with it. There was plenty of food - from the chicken to the beef as well as the soup and rice. Something for everyone! Make sure you check the hours so you don't show up 10 minutes before they close. We were very relaxed and were seated at a round table in the front. Just plain horrible. The food was disgusting! I think they gave me shrimp ( difficult to describe) because they were very tiny, flavorless and soggy. The vegetables were overcooked and the food was cold. I sent it back once and asked to microwave it and when it cans back lukewarm I tried to make the best of it. It's not the kind of place you want to send stuff back. Someone told us AFTER we ate that there was a Maggot in someone's food so why would people come back here to give it a second chance? It feels dirty. I asked to have the vegetable soup because I can't eat wontons, allergic to eggs and hot and sour is too spicy. The server asked the owner and she responded NO!!!! Ordered online for the first time in 25 years,easy order boneless ribs,quart of pork fried rice, two orders of egg rolls. So you know this 60.00 order is for TWO people. I tipped 15 percent for a pick up order. I got 1 homemade duck sauce and 1 hot mustard. I asked for another of each as two people use 1 and one to eat.She said I would have to pay for it. I ate at the Birds Nest Tree a number of months ago. I went back today and the first thing I noticed was a major increase in prices versus what I remember it was. The restaurant was expensive. The menu and food quality does not justify it. I consider the choices as "American Chinese" versus other places I have been too. Stopped in for lunch with my family. They offer lunch specials on Saturdays. Entree comes with soup and fried rice. Dishes are in the $10-12 range. Soups are very fresh and shine here. Fried rice was a little dry. Shrimp dishes are great and the shrimp and veggies were fresh. When you picture an old school Chinese restaurant, this is what you see. Sad but true the food is probably eh at best! Prices are ridiculous. The wontons have the tiniest amount of meat in them like if you can find it it's amazing and the roast pork in the soup taste like it's five days old and then they slice it down for soup. We have been coming to this Chinese restaurant for years , yet it as been years since we were here last. To tell you the truth I had a little sticker shock. It is so much more expensive than I remember. There was not one item on the early bird special less than $15. So, I just ordered Won Ton soup and my husband had the Chicken Cashew. The early bird items come with soup, fried rice, main course and a choice of pineapples or ice cream for dessert. We split the main course and there was ample food for both of us. The food was very good. The dining area is nicely decorated with soft music playing in the background. They do a big take-out business, so the phone was ringing off the hook.
