I'm going to tell you very simply that the food is good, the ambience is nice and fairly unique and the service is great because they seem like they actually wanna help you and they show up at the perfect times Now what's a little bit odd is that this restaurant and three others Pretty much have the same exact menu which I don't really understand. Yes the food at each of them does taste a little bit different but why in such a small town have four restaurants that are basically the same? I'm gluten-free and dairy free so I did have a pretty limited selection because I also can't eat beef or seafood but what I had was fine. It did the job and filled me up but I wouldn't rave about it So, you might end up trying all four of these very similar restaurants even though they are not owned by the same person and figuring out which one you might like the best. None of them have amazing food. The food is good but not so much stuff that you would crave and really wanna go back for in the opinion of the three of us that visited all these restaurants But being such a small town, there's also not a lot of of other restaurants to choose from so... We recently dined with a party of five and all ordered steaks. Unfortunately, each steak was significantly burned/charred on one side. The charred side was placed face-up when served, so it appeared the issue was known at the time. We chose not to send the food back because doing so often makes an evening more stressful, but we were all disappointed, especially since the quality of food here has typically been very good. I remember when this was the Ram Pub and it was full of college students drinking copious amounts of beer. It is now a much more refined eatery with a very tasty menu. I had the fish and chips and I was surprised that half my fish was cod but half my fish was catfish. It's not often you get catfish in the Pacific Northwest and I like to eat my catfish in the south. However, this catfish was scrumptious. The tables are nicely spread out. They have a number of four-person booths. The bar also has tables as well as a bar where you can sit and enjoy a great meal. We came here with a pretty large group so I was no expecting everyone to be served too quickly, but the food came out at a very timely manner. My friend got the grilled cheese and soup and it was very good. I got the quinoa bowl and found that even with the salsa it was pretty bland and there was just too much quinoa. Serious Bullshit charging a mandatory tip then servers asking for additional tip. It is already overpriced but to automatically add 8% then servers asking for tips is wrong. Stopped for a quick bite & decided to try the catfish po boy. The service was quick & my server was super friendly. I went to Pullman, WA for my daughter's graduation in Idaho. I wanted to find a place before leaving Albuquerque, NM. I felt it was a hit or miss since I found them on yelp. I made a reservation for the family. I was so impressed with the food and our waitress was very informative and courteous. Best food ever! Appetizers awesome. The ambiance excellent. We have been coming to Birch and Barley ever since we started visiting WSU. This place quickly became a capstone of our Pullman experience. While the menu is expansive and can seem intimidating at first, I've loved everything I've ordered here. From the lobster mac n 'cheese to the gumbo, everything is executed well and tastes delicious. Servings are generous, and many of the dishes are served with a side of fresh bread and butter. While I try something new on the menu each time I visit, I make sure to get an order of the fries and fry sauce (the fries pair well with everything). In addition to the excellent food, Birch and Barley's hospitality also sets it apart from other restaurants. The staff is friendly, and the cozy yet spacious dining room always feels welcoming. Hubby and I were in Pullman for a barn wedding, and stopped in at this place as it was next door to our hotel, and the wedding party had their rehearsal dinner there the night before. We have eaten here several times and it has been a steady downhill slide. Service and atmosphere are good but the food is lack luster. The poutine used to be a winner it is average now. The chicken and mushroom dish was so heavily covered in gravy it was almost inedible. The seafood gumbo was a fishy smelling grey bowl of gravy that lacked seafood. It was a poor choice. You would think, for a restaurant that has been dealing with graduation weekends for quite some time, that they would have their staff all on the same page for reservations. Alas, that is not what I came across. I called 4 months before commencement weekend to ask about reservations, to which I was informed to call one month prior. If commencement is on May 6th, it would make sense that one month prior is April 6th. I called today, 15 minutes after they opened, and was informed that they started taking reservations on April 5th and were already booked up. When I told the person on the phone that was not what I was told, she just repeated herself as if that would change the situation. Of course, I did not expect her to make exceptions, but I did expect her to at least address the severe miscommunication. I tried to look on their website to see if there was a way I could email them about the situation, but all that was offered was a phone number and social media - so I am taking to Yelp to inform not just the management team but others of the subpar service. I will not return to Birch & Barley and I sure won't recommend it to friends and family either. read more

One star for customer service... Looked online and it showed they closed at 9pm. Showed up and the door said they closed at 9pm. We arrived at 805pm. We were told "I'm sorry, but we stop seating at 8pm." I said "but everything says you close at 9pm, why would you turn customers away before closing". She said they actually close at 8pm but it's not posted anywhere. I worked in restaurants for years in both front and back of house. We sat people until closing time. We built it into the employee schedules to do that. To stop seating an hour early and not have that posted anywhere is ridiculous and unprofessional. Called and spoke to who said they were the GM. Extremely rude and extremely unprofessional as well. Have eaten here often, will not be back. read more
