My daughter and her girlfriend bought me to the spa to have our first drinks together since she had just turned 21. I have to say it's one of those college bars that has such a unique personality. If you go in, make sure you bring a marker of some sort because you want to leave your mark behind just like everyone else has. Literally the whole place is marked up from the tables to the cups up to the fans. The bathroom doors. We all took part in this tradition and marked areas as well. My daughter ordered a unique drink that came with a picture and an upside down vodka drink. She couldn't finish it but it was quite delicious. They also have some food options if you're hungry. Prices were not bad in the bartender was really nice. This bar is located very close to campus or somewhat on campus. If you're ever in town, you definitely need to visit The Coug. read more

If I took an unbiased view of The Coug, it probably would be 3.5 stars. The food is typical pub food, the place is grungy, and service is OK. However, given the fact that I spent more than one drunken night at this place in college (actual number minimized to protect my reputation), I have to give it 5 stars accounting for nostalgia. One has to appreciate that this is a divey place, with loads of character, a great craft beer selection along with drinks that will get you f'ed up should you choose. Plain and simple, a Pullman staple. I don't drink so the only time I'm in here is when it's less bar and more grill... I've been to lunches here and the fried stuff and burgers are exactly what you hope for when you get fried stuff and burgers. They're not trying to get too hipster-highbrow with things. And I like that. I also love that they have worked on improving the exterior in the front to allow for outdoor seating. I never went to WSU, but all I've ever heard was that I had to come to this bar. So we dropped a kid off here and found the Coug. It's totally a college dive bar. Very cool and eclectic. I loved it. Met some current students and got some good insight about the school. The employees were very nice and the food was good. The only negative thing is that it's very popular so get there early if you want a table. Also, please put the door back on the stall in the women's restroom. read more

Good food, great service, ambiance is also real unique. Place is a little small, bathroom is not private, and music isn't played unless someone pays. I enjoyed my time there and would recommend to others but there are a few things they could do to improve such as things I mentioned. read more

On our way home from Lewiston and was really craving a cheeseburger. It was Thanksgiving weekend and not much was open as far as small mom & pop places. Used my handy dandy Yelp app and found The Coug. It's a divey bar, rightly so just outside the WSU campus. One gal working the place and as the cook also. Earlier today, around 2:00 PM, a friend and I visited The Coug in Pullman, Washington to have a couple of beers. We were carded appropriately upon ordering drinks at the bar, had a good time, and experienced no issues during our initial visit. After leaving briefly to play pool at another bar, we returned to The Coug later in the day. Upon re-entering, we were immediately approached by a staff member who, without any prior interaction, locked eyes with me and appeared to single me out. As I made my way to the restroom, he followed me from behind the bar, physically grabbed my shoulder, and demanded to see my ID. I explained to him that I was more than willing to comply, but I needed to use the restroom first, as I was in urgent need. Despite the bar being crowded--20 or more people in line for drinks and many others seated--he aggressively insisted I provide my ID on the spot. I again told him I'd present it right after using the restroom. When I exited, I pulled out my ID, only to find him already behind the bar again. From across the room, he loudly told me to "leave" and claimed I didn't want to show my ID. I clarified that I had simply gone to the restroom, as stated, but at that point, I decided it was best to leave. As we were walking out, another staff member--who was unaware of the situation--joined in and began physically pushing us toward the exit, escalating a situation that was entirely unnecessary. I've been to The Coug over 20 times and have never experienced treatment like this. It was disappointing and unprofessional, especially considering the setting is meant to be a welcoming college bar. It's important that staff treat patrons with respect and professionalism rather than unnecessary aggression or ego-driven behavior. read more

I finally made it here for lunch. It was pretty good. I had a Bacon Cheeseburger with Avocado and Fries. The bacon was peppered and flavorful. The fries were seasoned and warm. The bun was TOASTED! Everything was delicious. One personal little disappointment I had was getting the burger and seeing it was American cheese. I wish every restaurant that serves American cheese burgers would state that on the menu. American cheese is not cheese. This burger was still delicious despite the American cheese. I would go back and I would recommend this place to others. Accessibility: This restaurant is NOT accessible. NOT at all. Yes, one side of the patio does not have stairs. However, there is no seating that is not a tall table with a stool seat. At night, on game days, and on the weekends, this place is extremely busy, so be aware of noise and drunkenness levels. read more

The Coug is a very chill place to hang out. The atmosphere is just very laid back and refreshing. The walls are covered with cougar writings and signatures which give it that much more character. I tend to frequent the Coug a lot on Tuesdays whilst taking advantage of their burger and fry for $2.50 deal. The people working are usually funny and sociable which makes the visit all the more pleasant. They only have beer and cider on tap but I read an article in the Daily Evergreen about expanding their offerings but that hasn't happened to my knowledge yet. It's just a great place to talk and have a drink. Ideal for starting or ending a night. Warm-up, cool-down style. It's definitely one of my favorites. They also have trivia on Sunday that I hope to make sometime in the future! read more

I love love love the Coug. It is an awesome place to either just get a burger or enjoy a few beers (or a pitcher) with friends. Its a great place for lunch or an evening out. They recently started serving hard alcohol which was a big excitement. I almost always get the cheese burger with a pint of Hefewiser or Blue Moon. They also have delicious fries that have been the focus of some of my late evening cravings. The atmosphere is really eclectic and is a very special place. This is a college bar and will be packed on a home football weekend. Be prepared. You can write on the walls and it is 100% acceptable. This place makes customers pay for music. Ridiculous. If a customer doesn't pay for music then there is nothing playing. Make a customer pay for music if they want a certain song but don't ruin the customer experience by not playing anything. This was my numero uno hang out while in college. I spent many days and nights drinking and having fun. The juke box has some of the best music on earth and it only costs 25 cents. The food is great and the beer is as cheap as it comes. Summer is best for this, 3 dollar pitchers of Busch light . They also serve microbrews for more dinero but I only drank those on special occasions, after finishing a test or Dads weekend, when I wasn't buying. If there had been a bar in "Animal House", it would have been the Coug. Beer only...and only cheap beer. Non-existent service, not enough tables or chairs, bathrooms that HAVE to be health hazards (and no sinks). It's home of possibly the best bathroom grafitti ever: on the beam above the trough "I flew Beggar's Canyon". (If you don't get it, you're probably too young to visit anyway. Or you need to see Star Wars more) On Friday-Saturday night it was almost impossible to get inside, and then just as hard to move around inside. When it's not busy, they make surprisingly good sandwiches. Classic burger and fries! I love the garden burger with their delicious steak fries! The bar is a classic college town bar featuring great food, great atmosphere, and friendly staff! Food was ready quickly and served piping hot! The seating is definitely bar seating so you might be standing up or sitting in a tall bar stool, if you're concerned with comfort. This is certainly an interesting place. The only time I've been here was for an Open to Close but was underage so I was marked with big black Xs on my hands. Hey, at least they let underagers in before a certain time! I'll let you know about the booze selection and prices if I ever go back! My ideal bar. To me (and undoubtedly many others), this bar is so much more than a watering hole. It is THE watering hole I miss more than anything. Returning to The Coug after you graduate... it's like coming home to this place that remains unchanged and universally adored, it has this ethereal quality that makes you never want to leave. For so many years, the Coug only served beer. Their recent decision to serve liquor was one I originally met with disgust, but most people still just order brews so the character hasn't really changed. My name/signature can STILL be found written on tables/mustard bottles/walls throughout the bar! The food is greasy/amazing and the prices are great. Corn dogs, tots, burgers... yum. Every time I come back to Pullman I HAVE to come here. It's not an option. Even when this place is packed shoulder-to-shoulder, everyone seems to treat each other like one big Coug family. read more

It's hard to give an unbiased review of this bar as a Coug myself; it's an institution here in Pullman, and so easy to love. But for my fellow Yelpers who aren't alumni, I'll try! This bar is not classy. It's clean, but every available surface is covered in writing from revelers past - yes, even the pint glasses. If you get one with fluorescent smudges, it's not dirty, it's just been written on with a paint pen that stubbornly stuck through many, many washings. For fun, bring your own sharpie or paint pen to memorialize your visit; the staff doesn't provide them as far as I know. Good burgers and fries, and specials every day. The burgers are big, greasy and tasty and the fries are good. Nice selection of beer on tap with good Washington craft brews always available alongside domestic standards. The staff here is, no joke, the friendliest bar staff I have EVER encountered. They are always chipper and cheerful! No scowls behind the bar here. I think one of the best things about it is it's such a versatile place; I can come here at midnight on a game weekend with friends and have an awesome time, or at noon for lunch and confidently bring my best friend with her baby. Minors are allowed until a certain time (nine, I think) and I have also brought my parents here. There's something for everybody at the Coug!
