First and foremost, I want to say I LOVE the atmosphere in the Coug. There is no other place that I have ever been that shows the same amount of pride in the surrounding area and the community. I gave the Coug 4/5 stars because until recently, it only served beer and Boones. As this is my 4th and final year at WSU, I did not spend as much time here until this year. People who were not avid beer drinkers tended to shy away from this establishment. However, now that their shelves are stocked with hard liquor, the Coug is a one-stop shop for all of the WSU population 21+. Stop in for some fries or tots and please, please order their mozzarella sticks. They are TO DIE FOR. Normally I love coming to The Coug but today at 3 o'clock my friends and I were refused service by bartender Kaycee Richman because we were "too intoxicated" even though we just came from taking our graduation photos with our photographer and our moms. Great food , great vibes, lots of laughs!!! Until Kaycee enters the premises. Beware ladies & gents shes a bartender with a superiority complex. She refused us service at 3 pm on a Sunday when we were *painfully* sober and with our mothers. Not sure if she woke up on the wrong side of the bed or what the issue was. Needless to say she was incredibly rude, ruining our Sunday with her insulting comments regarding our supposed "drunkenness". She continued to point at us with the other bartenders the entire time we were here. We literally were shoveling the food we paid for down our throats, just trying to leave. My group and me were cut off after 2 shots. We came in today for their $3 shots of tequila and they cut me and my group off from all their drinks except beer. I wanted an explanation why they would only serve us beer and not shots? They would not give us one except for a girl in Florida who was arrested for over-serving. I get that but why would you offer me a beer or a mixed drink but not a shot when the state looks as a single shot as the same as a 12oz beer or one cocktail? I tried to talk to the man in charge but he kicked me out in front of my whole group. They then asked him why did he offered me a beer and a cocktail but not a drink? I honestly just wanted an expiration other than a girl in Florida was arrested. That's a whole 'nother state, it just doesn't make sense. I liked this bar up until now. Btw V-hall has $2.5 shots on Tuesdays and doesn't stop serving me after two shots. read more

Great classic burger. No frills here but that's not the point. Burger has a squishy bun and everything is delicious down to the American cheese anchoring everything in place. I loved that all the components of my cheeseburger was balanced and it was like taking a bite of WSU culture. Did not partake in any libations but I can see why this place would be popular with the students and returning alumni. read more

I thought it was super inappropriate to kick people out an hour before actual close. By doing this and not properly notifying customers they kicked out people who were drunk and who weren't given ample time to figure out a ride home. Also, by kicking people out an hour early the customers where not able to properly plan the amount of drinks to have to be able to drive home. I was very disappointed in how employees treated customers. Employees were rude to customers trying to figure out how to safely get home. Normally I love the Coug but tonight I was severely disappointed. I don't like supporting a business that doesn't encourage people to be safe when leaving the bars. read more

The Coug is a classic college bar with decent food. Walls and ceilings are covered with graffiti and the sparse furnishings are sturdy and beaten up. The burgers and fries are tasty, though some of the burgers come with outlandish combinations of toppings. The beer is always fresh because Cougars drink so much of it. The jukebox is well stocked and loud. Not a bad place for lunch if you don't count calories, but quite loud and boisterous in the evening. read more

The staff are friendly, they have awesome deals on drinks especially during awesome hour, their bar food is on point, and the atmosphere is everything you want from a smaller bar. I would give it zero stars but that isn't an option. Two of us came in 7 minutes early and were told to wait until they opened, not even thirty seconds later and a large group of six maybe seven people came in and were offered service immediately. Then two more large groups came in right after another, so we went in line and waited to receive rude service. Very disappointed. read more

The Cougar Cottage is known to every WSU booze hound as the Coug or home. It is an iconic pub near the heart of greek row and campus. In its past years people enjoyed making it their own by marking or craving their name on the wall, tables, and bathrooms. Today, it is an overpriced, under staffed shit hole. A pitcher of Busch Light was 12 dollars which is quite overpriced for Pullman!!! I ordered a cheeseburger and fries and it took the two guys flipping burgers 40 minutes to get it to me, cold, and with only 9 fries. I asked for just a few more and once they were done with their conversation they promptly told me to get lost. Customer service and the food sucks. All the bars in town have Wing Wednesday and The Coug has, by far, the most bland, unappealing wings. If you want a cold pitcher and good wings go to Valhalla, its a half a block up the street. If you have never been to Pullman, walk inside The Coug for the nostalgia, but do yourself a favor and turn right around and leave. read more
