Gemma took great care of me, and was thoughtful, down-to-earth, and immediately someone I felt comfortable with. My hair turned out great, and I very much appreciated her assuring me that it was no problem at all to work around my N95 face mask. They even let me use their bathroom to change into my dress for the event, since I had to head straight there! I look forward to my next visit (and I generally only give 5 stars after I've had multiple experiences and can rate reliability/consistency.) P.S. I ran into a colleague while I was there, and it turns out, she's been going to Maria's salon for 20 years, following them any time they changed location. This is a lady who always looks put together, so I take that as a very good sign, coming from her!

From the moment I sat in her chair, she had the best energy, so warm, welcoming, and easy to talk to. She had no idea I had recently had surgery and was going through one of the hardest seasons of my life, but her kindness and positive attitude completely turned my day around. On top of that, my blowout was amazing! My hair had so much volume, looked beautiful, and lasted for days. Haley is incredibly talented, but what really sets her apart is how she makes her clients feel. I left not only loving my hair but also feeling so much lighter than when I walked in. Thank you, Haley, for making my birthday so much brighter. I'll definitely be back!

I was hoping for a positive experience at Salon MK with Giselle Q, but I left very disappointed…read more The photos clearly speak for themselves but here's what happened-- When I first reached out to Salon MK in June, I was connected with Giselle and specifically requested a light brown, neutral balayage. We booked a balayage ($280) and a haircut ($85). I sent photos of my hair and several reference photos. During the appointment, she explained that balayage is essentially highlights, which made me a bit nervous, as I understand it to be more of a blended, ombré-style look. Still, I trusted her professional judgment. Unfortunately, the final result looked nothing like my reference photos..... The highlights leaned much more yellow and brown rather than the neutral tones I had requested, and they were also uneven, with some highlight sections noticeably thicker than others. The haircut itself was uneven, and the top layers were longer than the bottom section. She offered to fix it, which I appreciated, but by that point I already felt uneasy. I decided to give her a second chance since she was willing to fix the uneven haircut, so I went back in October for an all-over color before an important work event. I was very clear and specific about what I wanted and provided several reference photos beforehand- a dark, natural brown with subtle purple/reddish undertones. I explicitly asked to avoid black, copper, blonde, vivid red or purple tones, and NO highlights. We discussed this thoroughly, and I even said that if there was any hesitation, I'd prefer to play it safe with a darker brown balayage instead. Giselle reassured me she could achieve the color....... Unfortunately, the result was again nothing close to what I requested. My hair turned out coppery brown/red and still showed highlights, which I had specifically asked to avoid. I felt embarrassed going to my event with it. When I reached out the next day with photos, I was told that the custom conditioner I purchased should temporarily fix the issue. This was frustrating, as a conditioner with very minimal pigmentation shouldn't be relied on to correct a $165 color service, especially after I left a 20+% tip out of kindness. Overall, the results did not align at all with what we discussed or the reference photos I provided. My concerns weren't resolved, and I ultimately had to attempt to fix my hair myself before the event. Everyone's experience is different, but I wanted to share mine so others can make the decision that feels right for them and choose a stylist they feel 1000% confident with.

Before my appointment, I sent photos of both my current hair and the look I was hoping to achieve. I also explained that I had experienced significant breakage in the past and had spent over eight months growing my hair back out. Karen confirmed she was a blonde specialist and assured me she could achieve the look I wanted. I paid $400 for what was supposed to be a full service, but I left with uneven color, large sections of dark hair still visible throughout the top, underneath, around my ears, and along my neckline. The banding I wanted blended was still visible, and many areas had little to no lightening. I also felt the appointment was rushed. After I reached out with my concerns, Karen initially told me she had "foiled as much as she could" and that there wasn't much hair left to foil. However, she later said she could foil more but that doing so could damage my hair. That response directly contradicted what I had originally been told. If there was enough hair left to foil more, then it raises the question of why it wasn't done during the appointment. That inconsistency was very disheartening. Plus the excuse she didn't want to damage my hair? My hair is very healthy. I also did not want to come back for a redo because my trust had already been broken. After leaving with a result that did not resemble what we had discussed, I was understandably concerned about having the same outcome again. I asked if she would consider at least a partial refund. Although I don't even feel I received what would be considered a full partial highlight because so much dark hair remained, I requested only a partial refund simply to be fair for the time that was spent. Instead, I was told that she does not give refunds and that the only option was for her to fix it herself. It is not right to send a client home with uneven, incomplete results, say nothing about the issues, and then expect them to feel comfortable returning to the same stylist for a correction. I was trying to be reasonable by requesting only a partial refund, even though I don't believe that was a fair resolution considering the amount of corrective work that is still needed. Karen later told me she believed my appointment had been a color correction that took ten hours. Which it did not- it was a 5 hour appointment and not a color correction- she never mentioned to me before. Was a root melt and baby light. She then apologized and admitted she had confused me with another client. That only added to my concerns, as it suggested she was not accurately recalling my appointment while responding to my complaint. Learning afterward that Karen is the salon owner made the experience even more disappointing. As a salon owner, I would expect honesty, integrity, accountability, and a commitment to customer satisfaction. Unfortunately, I did not feel those qualities were demonstrated. This experience has been a waste of both my time and my money, and now I have to pay another stylist to correct the work that I originally paid $400 to have done properly.
