I've had my fair share of dissatisfatory encounters with staff at this location, but my interaction today with Assistant Manager Chelsea takes the cake. If management cared about doing the right thing, they'd throw her in the trash where she belongs. Today serves as a poignant reminder that everyone is an expendable bloodsack at Biolife and no one knows it more than regulars. Anyways, February 13th, a phlebotomist flooded my arm. With my arm being in a cuff, I couldn't tell that fluid was leaking into the surrounding tissue. Eventually, the site began to hurt. I wasn't feeling good, but a phlebomist insisted upon continuing the donation and hooked my other arm up to the machine. As this was happening, I notified them that I was feeling faint. The needle was removed and a nurse was called to take my vitals and proceeded to blame me for being dehydrated. Uh... okay. Biolife checked in with me the following day but that was the extent of it. The site has only worsened. Not only is it obviously unsightly-- it hurts to bend, there is a bit of a dull pain, and the hematoma is spreading. I wrote customer care on 2/18 about the incident expressing concern and requesting compensation. On 2/19 I received a call from the nurse to follow-up about my arm. She was perfectly nice as she checked-in with me. She also offered to reach out to management to see if I could be issued compensation. No additional support was offered, but I was advised to visit UC if things worsened. Enter Chelsea. Upon picking up her call, Chelsea snarkily asked me, "What sort of compensation are you looking for?" When I asked if she read the message I wrote or spoke with the previous nurse, she replied, "Yeah, well we don't offer that. That's what you signed up for." Ah, so Chelsea thinks it's cute to punch down and play 20 questions with injured donors. Not trusting my ears, I reiterated my story, and asked her if she saw anything wrong with her interpretation."Yeah, that's exactly what I'm saying. You signed papers. You knew the risk. We're not responsible and we don't owe you anything". I don't know know who Chelsea thinks she is or who she thinks I am, but holy hell. As someone who works in healthcare myself... I was FLOOORED. After I attempted to gather more info on what to do and on how to escalate the matter, Chelsea hung up on me. I proceeded to call the clinic back. Chelsea picked back up and I told her I wanted to speak to a manager. Chelsea refused to provide times of when a manager would be available and hung up on me... again! I called back and this is when Chelsea started playing victim, claiming I was yelling at her. I told her I was done talking to her; I wanted the number to corporate. She claimed there was no corporate. How does Biolife not have a corporate office with like 50 locations, smh. Anyways, it was clear I was talking to a brick wall at that juncture. The call ended. I've sent another written request to Biolife for assistance. In the meantime, I'm following up with UC for an exam. What happened wasn't okay. I didn't deserve to be treated the way I was. They have an F at Better Business Bureau, and I see why. They said they needed some paperwork from my doctor before I could donate. I got the doctor to fill out the form and brought it back. A month later they contact me and say I'm approved. I go there and the receptionist said that whoever contacted me was wrong, and that before they even gave me the forms they had already decided not to approve me regardless of what the doctor said. If they had just said no at the beginning I would have understood. Even if they had fun making me get my doctor to fill out forms they had already decided not to use and then told me I was denied for whatever reason I would have at least thought I had been declined for that reason. I donated today and Peyton at this center was my phlebotomist. She was very unprofessional and rude and I did not have a great experience. Initially she poked me on my left arm, and immediately gave me a hematoma. She did not provide educational information on how to care for it, nor provided me with an ice pack. I had to ask another phlebotomist for one. After this occurrence, she poked me on my right arm, and before this happened I told her my veins are very deep on this side and I usually prefer not to do my right side because every time I do, I have a bad experience. After she poked me, I told her it felt very tight but she did not reposition. Once my donation was completed, I sat there for over 20 minutes to be disconnected. Peyton did not acknowledge me, poked 2 other people and eventually someone else came to disconnect me. Overall I had a bad experience with this phlebotomist. read more

All the staff have been really nice and consistent. They try to keep appointments and keep it pretty speedy. I wish they cleaned the arm pads that take your heart rate off between people but they haven't since I've been going. My last session is in a few days. I went thinking I'd get $750 as that would be helpful to life and only got $600 so I won't be back. As much as I want to help, the money and experience isn't worth it. The drive is from far east Gilbert to Tempe. The anticoagulant is really gross and irony - It gets me every time. The cold saline is so uncomfortable. The initial poke sucks too. It's a big needle. The company makes so much off our plasma but we get, I heard $40 per session after your entry increments so I'll be done after I do my last session for the remaining $90. read more

I've been coming to this BioLife location for at least the past 6 months. I will say its usually a 4/5 or 5/5 experience and usually goes off without a hitch. Today i was deferred before i was even able to donate due to the no fault of my own. The phlebotomist that was taking my vitals said that the first blood sample broke in the Centrifuge, which I've never heard happen before, But she told me that was due to the air pockets in the sample. She then tells me she would need to prick another finger (No big deal) too get another sample. Taking the second sample, she again leaves many air pockets in the sample and says it will likely break again if she puts that in the centrifuge?? She discarded the sample without trying it in the centrifuge, Then tells me she cant take a 3rd sample and that I'm deferred and will have to come back again tomorrow? So if the sample broke on the first try and you know you cant take a 3rd sample... then wouldn't you try your best to get the 2nd one right? I guess not... The tech admitted it was no fault of my own, but now I cant donate and wasted hours of my time and gas to get there. Spoke with a manager about the situation and told to come back tomorrow and wont be compensated for today. Leaves a very bad taste in my mouth after doing everything correctly on my end. To recap, This location is pretty solid. But i guess i have to now be more critical of the tech taking my vitals if i can be penalized if they make a mistake. I know alot of people rely on the funds BioLife gives for donations alot more than i do. Biolife also rewards those who are punctual and who donate regularly, So even being deferred for one day can cause a donor to miss out on compensation and any promotions they have active. I will continue to donate but in situations like this, I believe BioLife needs to make more of an effort to understand their clientele and circumstances like this. The asst mgr I spoke to was rude and unconcerned. I asked if I could speak to the manager- declined. Asked if I could leave a message- declined. Asked how to leave a message and was referred to the mobile app- no way to leave a message. I ask the assistant manager for her name - she declined and told me to leave and not return. I did go to the website and left a request to speak to a manager- no reply and now I'm unable to donate anyplace in the valley. There a Lead Tech who's name is Lisa argues with staff she mocks and mimics donator. She's a bully! I've talk to management his voice of opinions was I back my staff percent. This is not ok because he's supposed to train on customer service respecting donator. The second time I was there one tech was checking me in. She kept taking off from station asking me 4x to get my weight. Her process of sloppiest no professionalism. I asked her why she kept asking me 4 times get on weight scale. She snapped at me said you have problems you're not welcome here and I can tell management on you. I was threatened these two were African women who were very high strung with donators. An absolutely insane waste of time. I came into BioLife early last year and answered their incredibly long and invasive screening questions as honestly as I could including: "have you been diagnosed with anxiety or depression within the last three years" which as I'd been diagnosed with both in mid 2020 I had answered "yes". I have been donating blood through a variety of different organizations for years and have never once been asked a mental health question so I didn't see the significance at the time and still don't. This simple, honest answer deferred me from donating pending paperwork from my psych clearing me to donate. I acquired the paperwork a few months later and had not been into donate after due to personal life conflicts. My psych told me after she had reviewed the paperwork had told me she genuinely did not understand the relevance of their questions and said it was the most intrusive questionnaire she'd ever seen. My therapist and a phlebotomist with Red Cross also could not fathom why this information was relevant. Today I came in, a full 3 years+ post diagnosis. I had made my appointment online and was told nothing about my deferrals still being in place. After about 30 minutes in the waiting room and being bounced from person to person I was sent to speak with the nurse as the deferrals were still on my account. I then sat through another incredibly invasive interview about my mental health including questions about self-harm, my medications down to the date prescribed and the most recent dose change, and my mental stability. Thirty minutes later I was told I WAS STILL DEFERRED AND WOULD NEED MY PSYCH TO FILL OUT MY PAPERWORK AGAIN! Why? Because in spite of my psych saying "yes this person is stable to donate" the manager at BioLife decided I wasn't. There was nothing I could do about it at the moment my psych HAD to fill out the paperwork again, I'd need to come back on another day again, just to be asked more questions again, and STILL have no guarantee I'd be permitted to donate. There is no research supporting BioLife policies and the nurse told me that they needed to be mentally stable enough to be around the other patients. I found this logic to be incredibly bizarre. There is no evidence that donating plasma would aggravate suicidal tendencies or self-harm behaviors. Especially not AS ITS HAPPENING. So for those doing the math BioLife has wasted 2 hours of my time between two appointments, wasted my psychs time in paperwork, and wasted gas of mine over deferrals that could have been relayed to me prior to coming in. I am writing this review because BioLife has to reevaluate its policies on mental health as the current ones have no basis in modern medicine. read more

I want to start by saying that until this morning I had not had a negative experience at any of the Biolife locations and I've been donating for over a year. Michael, who is at the Tempe location and I believe is a part of management (or at least higher up in the chain of command than the techs who take your vitals at the front), was very unpleasant; his condescending tone and poor attitude towards me was unnecessary. I had gotten my latest tattoo in March of 2024 and couldn't remember the exact date, I thought it was the 21st, and when I let him know that during my physical his entire demeanor changed. His records were showing that I had attempted to donate on 3/23/24, but was declined due to my heart rate being outside of their guidelines for donation. Basically, I had given the wrong date for my tattoo as it was actually done on 3/24/24 - the day after I tried to donate - and I showed proof of it by pulling up my Instagram account with a photo of my fresh tattoo. Before I had pulled out my phone to double check the date of my tattoo, Michael not only spoke to me like I was an idiot, but also made me feel like I was trying to lie to his face and get away with it. I'm very aware of the guidelines the company has regarding tattoos/piercings and the wait time from when you get one to when you can start donating again. Michael's rude and condescending reaction, even after I had cleared things up, was uncalled for and unprofessional. It was like he didn't believe me even after I showed him the photos and he continued to speak down to me. I understand that there are people who probably try to lie about when their last tattoo/piercing was, I also understand that people have bad days and maybe Michael was having one (trust me, I didn't wanna be at the facility first thing at 6am this morning either), but that doesn't justify treating someone badly and making them feel bad for an honest mistake that was able to be cleared up. You also have a finger print which is to much. ID is plenty. After driving over an hour round trip and being offered to pay me then saying my blood pressure is to high and not giving even gas after wasting my time is unprofessional and just going to piss off people. You as a company don't see but your staff does and it's not fair to them. You obviously are in it for the money as a company and don't care for your employees or the people donating. Missy Keeley is one of the Top Gs here. I see why because she is and alway on it, she handles her donors with EXCELLENT care and manages multiple tasks at once. I don't believe I've ever seen her take a breath. I watch her and see that she's incredible when it comes to caring for the donors but she also helps out her team's station when need. Yeah baby... Back again! Gets meaner and meaner every time Anyways. Second review. I returned yet again and things had been running smooth-ish so I thought to myself "self, I think we were just in a bad mood before because things seem to be running smooth-ish now." And I continued my donating. Coming up on a bonus, this is the weekend I'm supposed to fulfill a couple different ones. They've just told me I'm not eligible to come back until they do a recheck on my blood cuz my protein was low. Doesn't make any damn sense because a couple days ago I was there and they let me donate. So this is just proving my theory that they suddenly cut you off before fulfilling your bonuses. I've been diligent to take my vitamins, drink HELLA water, way my protein, drinking protein shakes, I've made Green smoothies a couple days a week even to keep those numbers up. And then this happened again. SUS!!!! I will say (almost) all the center employees have been nice. Except one girl who pretends people are invisible when they come in. If you sit in her section she'll eventually get you hooked up but don't expect eye contact or ANY words from her other than "tight fist" and then "let us know if you need anything" as she walks away, still never having made eye contact. Can you give a zero??? Biolife as a company is great! This location is AWFUL. I have been donating for years, over 10!!! I regularly travel and donate across the country. Only at THIS location have I ever had too low of a pulse. And it has happened at least 6 times now. I always know when it will happen cause the machine takes forever. Oh, but don't question their "calibrated" machine! (eyeroll) For the last 3 months, once a week, I have had a doctor take my pressure and pulse, with a sphygmomanometer, always very consistent! In that same time, their machines at this location have varied over 30mm!!! So their machines need to be replaced, recalibrated, or at least get a better calibration service cause they are WRONG. Biolife may be great, but their policy about not letting the nurse use a sphygmomanometer to check when the machine is wrong is ridiculous! read more

I was going through check up with the female nurse (large built African-American nurse with pink scrub) on April 5th, since I had a strep and finished last dose of penicillin 10 days ago. She catches very slight "sniffle" which I have since I was born, especially in the morning. I was cleared by different nurses just fine during hematoma check ups and physicals. My pulse ox is 100% room air, no allergy, just woke up, and ate cereal with milk causing more secretion in my throat which caused slight sniffle in the morning. I regularly work out, manage myself, don't drink or smoke, and am in shape. I told her I feel fine as I can breath through nose with no problem, and I haven't been diseased ever since. She then proceeds that if I don't know what I have, I can't donate here.I have been donating here for about 6 months with slight sniffle and I am not diseased. I understand that you guys need to rule out any sick patients from donating pool, but I am honest enough to tell you guys I had strep and was taking penicillin before. I also rarely get disease as I'm healthy. I told her that she was being crazy with calm voice, but she proceeds to call a manager, to tell manager that I demanded a manager. I didn't ask for a manager nor triggered. She was emotionally triggered and little combative because I did not acknowledge her diagnosis. She just didn't listen to me and jumped into conclusion. She also did not provide me any education on what I needed to do to clear for next visit either. I am graduating this May from nursing school.This experience encouraged me to become a nurse who will listen to client and patient well, and conduct thorough assessment and labs, and provide proper educations after assessment. I am not going to miss any patient teaching afterward just because I was triggered as a nurse. I will maintain professionalism. I am sorry that this ended this way but other nurses, staff and phlebotomist were professional and nice. Even when they turned me down because I had strep, was late one time, had hematoma, or took long time to see me, I did not write paragraphs like this. It takes one bad apple to ruin a business. Lost $100 bonus this week and now I see I was screwed out of another $80. Take screenshots. You will wait for at least an hour before getting a bed to donate. It may take up to 20 minutes for them to get to you. They seem quite short staffed right now. What used to take 45 minutes is now taking a minimum 2 hours so be prepared. With the repetitive type of work they do and volume of people coming through you'd expect them to get pretty burnt out but that was not my experience at all. Every person was so kind and cheerful. I did not appreciate the service at this location at all. i've been to the Mesa center location and would recommend that one over this one, as the service there was by far better. the employee Cory, that took my vitals and blood was not very pleasant. she was mumbling the whole entire time she was talking to me which made it hard to hear. When i asked her to repeat what she said, she gave a chuckle and smirk which i did not appreciate. She didn't give any guidance or information of what she was doing the entire time as well. when looking at my arms, she didn't ask to look at them, just made the motion to put my arms up. She gave no instructions on where to stand afterwards. this was my first time at this facility and will definitely not come back. They didn't say the 30 day new donor rule. They didn't allow a 1 week extension for the new donor bonus when their computers weren't allowing me to schedule a return donor visit for a week. They didn't say that the Tempe location pays $50 less than the Glendale location for the new donor bonus and instead said that bonus wasn't available here. There's no way for anyone to contact headquarters to fix anything. They don't answer their phones regardless of what number you press. The customer service is horrible and they commit scams/fraud by the way things are setup. read more

My first impression was ok. The place could have been labeled better for new people. The people that work there are friendly and helpful enough. But my jaw dropped that I would be there 2-3 hours. I was trying to figure out the best time to go and didn't budget for that much time because it doesn't tell you that when you sign up. Jess was super helpful. read more
