I've been to other donation centers before and Biolife is easily the cleanest, friendliest, and most efficiently run center I have seen. I'm in and out in an hour or less, which is great because other centers have taken double that time. (And I'm the lowest weight group so I donate the least ml so double that time is quite ridiculous.) I've never had a bad experience here with the donation process or the staff. They do their best to make small talk with you and I have never felt judged or looked down on for donating. As long as you keep your health top notch they won't defer you. I truly enjoy this place and am saddened that I'm going to have to leave it in the fall when I move, because I know the donation center where I'm going doesn't come close to this one. THIS PLACE NEEDS TO SHUT ALL THE WAY DOWN. I left in tears over a sunburn I questioned the way things are done at the center and had to record bc none if made sense. I was called today on Mother's Day to inform me that I can no longer donate. Was I upset? Absolutely. What do you mean your employee Joanna thought my sunburn was a factor when it comes to donating. The nurse is new people are waiting LONG wait times and thought they could do that to me. I stood my ground because I would have waited those long wait times just to be told I can't donate! The loops to donate and the review process has resulted in multiple attempts to donate only to not be able too after making an accepted appointment and waiting inline for ever!! Very organized, professional, and efficient... all wonderful people working here. I go to the Denton location, so I can't comment about others, but even so, I'm stunned by all the one-star reviews. I've been to another plasma business, which wasn't bad, but this BioLife location is very -very- well run and, from what I've seen, all the workers there are friendly toward both the donors and each other. The process is simple, and yes if you go at certain times you may find a line and have to wait a bit (e.g. where don't you wait sometimes.. try Walmart!), but consider when you go and you can move along fairly quickly. read more

Donating plasma I feel is a way to help others. Donating plasma is more involved than just donating blood. I started coming to BioLife after a family member told me about it. Yes you do get paid but they are sneaky how they do it. You get a small amount when you donate the first day and then they entice you with more on the second donation. Donations can only be done twice week. The problem here is the Denton location is severely understaffed. The employees are miserable. I can't tell you how many times I over heard two employees complaining about how many people are donating. Yeah that what I want to hear when you are shoving a needle in my arm. Avoid this location. Appointments are made every 5 mins. The problem is again they only use maybe half the donations beds and the employees are irritable and there just isn't enough of them to be effective. I had an appointment for 6pm on a Monday. I arrived and 5 mins before I completed my questionnaire. There were almost 30 people ahead of me. That's over an hour wait before you even get your clinicals done. Then you have to donate and it always takes about 15-30 minutes before they even start a machine. Then about 45 mins to donate plasma. Then another 15 minutes to get someone to get you out. Absolutely ridiculous. Do better. Whoever manages the Denton BioLife should be replaced, terminated, or sent to Alaska because they are not able to manage this place. The staff acts like it's only their time and not the patients that is valuable. I literally had one staff member tell me how miserable it is to work there and went on complaining about a patient in detail. Hey BioLife....i work in the medical field and your employee violated HIPPA. Good job. The BioLife staff doesn't care if you waste your time or if they waste yours. One employee told me they are understaffed and underpaid and they are the busiest location in the area. Maybe BioLife needs to cut back on appointment slots so they don't have us standing around waiting for 1-2 hours. This place sucks. It's absolutely not worth it for the measly amount of money you get paid. The staff is clearly unhappy and it shows. Now it seems the majority of people who go here are people on extremely low or no income. And I'm not judging anyone's financial status but I have noticed the people that show up to donate are rather dirty and unkempt.it used to not be this bad. They either will have to make major changes or this location will fail. It's an absolute disaster and crap show. If you are wanting to help and donate plasma please don't go here. It's absolutely abysmal. Which brings me to my final point. Cleanliness. It used to be a pretty clean place. I notice now it's rather dirty. I watch staff barely spraying and wiping down beds and a few instances I watched them not even clean a bed and put a patient on it. That's gross. PLEASE READ BEFORE GOING Do not ever come here please read all the bad reviews. I went about six times and then the seventh time one of the nurses looked like she had no clue what she was doing. She put the needle in and missed the vein, no biggie right? at least, not until she tried re-entering the same vein in the same motion without asking. Worst pain of my life and I told her if she didn't take it out, I was going to scream. She took the new needle out which I assume punctured the vein and blood started going all over my arm and the seat so I had to move. She took forever to grab a towel to clean up the blood and was talking to another nurse while she did it... she then grabbed another nurse because she was so bad and embarrassed of her mess... I still remember what she looks like, but didn't get her name, she was pale, chunky, nerdy looking with glasses about 20 years old with brown hair. Why I didn't report her at the time I have no idea, I felt like they wouldn't care. I went back one more time just to talk to one of the nurses and I found out that you don't need medical school prior to this and anyone can get hired on I'm never going back and you should never start!!! On a sidenote, the same arm gets tingly sometimes when I'm walking and my upper arm looks blotchy under the skin. I can't sue because I'm under consent forms. Forgot to mention this. One of the 'nurses' put it in and it was hurting super bad bc it was placed poorly. I told him it was extremely bad pain and he told me " it's a needle in your arm of course it's not going to feel good for you"..... well I took his dumb advice and for three days I couldn't squeeze my hand because my arm was hurting so much after sitting through a full session of it. Next time I went back I had a new nurse, that did better but she told me oh I'm sorry to hear that when I brought it to her attention. read more

There is no structure, and no sense of urgency whatsoever with the employees. The morale is terrible, and the majority of the time they just wander around or wash their hands a lot. What a total wast of 3 1/2 HOURS! I was scheduled to be at my appointment at 12:30. I wasn't even called to start the process for over 2 hours. When I started it was exhausting with more waiting.....over an hour in between different "check points" and then finally seeing the nurse who was very rude. She disqualified me after I'd passed all the blood tests, etc. Her reason was because I had a scar on my back from scoliosis surgery from over 40 years ago??? What a waste of time and their loss. Get through the questionaire and standard check-in within a standard 25 min turn around, no issue. Get assigned a bed and think we are ready to roll.... not so fast! Terrible , this place has definitely declined over the years. Showed up for a 2:30 appointment, it wasn't busy and I didn't get poked until 4:15. Been to a lot of other locations and never had this problem. They are disorganized, always have new people they are training which causes multiple sticks, loss of blood and waste of time. The organization has good intentions, but is an experience process to make a donation. If you take any medication, you have to pay for a medical release. With my insurance, that is $80. They only offer $20 per donation and do not accept the First Time Donor coupon that is on their website. In all, a donation will cost me $60 plus 2 hours of my time if you qualify. It is just not cost effective. I give them 2 stars for the very friendly staff. read more

It takes at least 2 hours to donate here. I used to be able to get in & out in 45 minutes but not anymore. Most of the supervisors don't care that it takes that long. My husband has been 5 times, given plasma once. They screwed up the paperwork twice, blood pressure once, gave once, today plasma too cloudy. Do not believe the ads. They need numbers registered, not donations. They are not nice, they seem like they are helping you, but they are not. My problem does not lie with this specific donation center, more so corporate, although I have requested a call back from management twice from this facility which is where I have donated and never got one. Have put in multiple contacts on the corporate website in which is states you will be responded to/contacted within 3 business days and have never heard back from anyone. Horrible customer service. I had to wait 100 minutes before I was able to get in a chair and with a tech. There's simply no reason to spend 2 1/2 hours for a plasma donation only. This location is frequently understaffed and over booked. [the staff are great! this is not a complaint against the techs, love y'all!!]. Biolife Corporate should allow for leniency on coupons to donors when these situations occur. BioLife Plasma Services - Hematoma I went on Monday morning to donate plasma. I usually go twice a week with no issues. I usually only donate with my left arm and have had no issues with that arm. I went in right as they opened and the guy who was to start the process started trying my left arm. He seemed to just be rushing and not really taking his time. For about FIVE minutes he kept repositioning his needle and everything. He then gave up and tried the right arm. He barely took time to find my vein at all. He then started putting in the needle and spent about another FIVE minutes repositioning the needle. He finally got it but it just didn't feel right. I moved my arm a bit and it felt better so I didn't say anything cause it's normal. After about 10 minutes of the machine going my cuff let out it's pressure and the pain started growing. It felt like something was in my arm and trying to literally claw its way out. The pressure was so so painful. I then called the guy over but he couldn't be bothered to stop what he was doing (retubing and empty station) so finally another person walked by and stopped the machine but he wouldn't take out the needle. Finally the guy took the needle out without saying anything then walked away. A lady stepped up and was actually finally talking to me and telling me what was going on. This happened on a Monday and it is now Wednesday. I was then given 20 bucks and the pain of a hematoma and not being able to fully do my job (lifting and working with animals) read more

I started donating because I didn't have a job at the time and I needed the money. 2 stars only because the front desk staff was always very nice to me. The technicians were helpful for the most part however they were not experienced. It took them 3 appointments and 6 needles (one for each arm) just to find my vein. Now I know, my veins being complicated are not all on them, some doctors even have trouble finding them. But, I do know they are supposed to get the needle on the first try, not readjust a needle in my arm for 30 seconds before they decided to take it out. My advice to you? If you really want to do this, trust these people like I did, know your worth and don't let them treat you as any less than a human. The money is great but it's not worth these burises and the pain of struggling to open a door for 48 hours after my donation. read more

What a scam. I referred my sister in law. I didn't receive the $150.00 bonus so I called to check. I was told I had to give another donation to receive the referral bonus. After completing the donation, I checked with the desk to see if I could get the bonus. First they couldn't find her in the system; then they said she had to contact her location and put me down as her referral. After speaking with my sister in law, she indicated she had already done this upon her first visit. Makes sense-she is professional and thorough. The BioLife Denton staff said my sister in law would have to have her location input me as her referral, then I would be able to collect the bonus. And in true BioLife form, that would require another donation. read more

I went into the Burleson location today to donate. However, when i got into the donation chair i was told i could not donate by Darby because my veins are where my tattoo is and they cannot go through my ink. They then checked my other arm and since the two good veins in that arm weren't far enough apart they couldn't use that arm. My complaint is that i went through 3 people before getting in the chair, and not even the nurse Jim mentioned my tattoo being a potential problem. He actually looked at it and said i had good veins and i let him know that's the arm they use for all my blood draws etc. NOWHERE does it say on your website that the needle can't through ink. Darbi then got another individual and that lady said it's a new rule. If it's a new rule how come not one person from check in to my physical mentioned it when they could clearly see the said tattooed area?! I wasted my entire morning! I will be leaving a bad review as i felt if this was true a new rule implementation then someone during the physical process should have known and mentioned i wouldn't be able to donate instead of steadily wasting my time and theirs! This place is busy but clean and very professional. Expect about 2-3 hours the first time you go in. It's longer wait time if they are busy. Or if they are training. Overall everyone was nice. I was disqualified because of meds I take regularly. So, if you are on some kind of meds that your CANNOT stop, don't bother. They have some great incentives. Worst time I had, wasted an hour wasn't that busy I sat down and waiting patiently, a person came and sat after me they went to restroom and came back and they got stuck right away after sitting down, me still patiently waiting about 15 or 20 mins later second person came and sat. Me still patiently waiting now he gets stuck be still there not so patient anymore now that I been sitting and waiting for an hour. So now I get up and leaving now she says something I said I will do this another time, her response are u sure I said yes I am sure since it's been an hour waiting watching others that sat after me get stuck. And I watched 3 employees go on break and return from their 30 min break and I was still just sitting there. They never have employees to screen their donors and if they do. You get placed on a waiting area before you go to the floor. And once on the floor you still have to wait to get hooked. My experience today takes the cake. They have a 5 minute cushion for your appointment before it gets canceled. Other Biolife centers have a 10 minute cushion. I have been donating in Denton almost a year now and this was the 2nd time I've been late for an appointment. The 1st time was due to a wreck on 35 and there were 4 others besides me that were late. Anywhere from 2 minutes to 25. The floor supervisor just got on the computer and the next thing you know we were able to sign into the kiosk. Of course we explained what had happened. Today I had a 1:50 appointment and my car overheated just minutes from the center. I called 4 times and got the tecording that they were busy with clients and to leave a message. Well I got there at the kiosk at 1:59 and it referred me to the front desk. Of course they weren't busy at all. There were 2 people waiting to get their finger poked and weighed. I explained to the floor supervisor what had happened and he chuckled and smiling from ear to ear explained that today was sunday and they close at 3. I could've understood if their were 15 or 20 people in line but there was 2. I can't count the times I've had an appoi tment and it would be 3 or 4 hours before I'd get out of there for a donation that takes 30 minutes. My time is valuable too. I drive almost an hour to get there and I definitely didn't plan on car problems and that little jerk had the nerve to laugh at my situation. Especially when there was still plenty of time. I could've been out before 3 as long as they did their jobs on time in the back. I've wasted countless hours waiting on them cos they were running behind and they were alot latter than 4 minutes. I've decided to start going to a center that actually care about their donars and not just about themselves. I had gone to the Denton Biolife Center after not donating in almost 2 years. I schedule everything as required and knew the routine as I've been a donor in the past. I was two minutes late because apparently I didn't know that the old 10 minutes early or 10 minutes late curve has been changed. Rather than let me make it, the receptionist was very rude and turned me away, and I had drove 75 miles both ways Total and actually left on time, but got in a little bit of traffic right before the exit from interstate, 35. I didn't say anything but it really hurt my feelings mainly.... I actually preferred the Denton center until then, and I go to the Lewisville center. They are skilled, they are warm and friendly in quite hospitable. I was in LVN for 15 years before retiring and changing careers .....Lewisville.."you got it going on baby!". see you soon! read more

After wasting two days getting all the information needed to become a donor and made two appointments, I was permanently deferred from being able to donate. I went through the process of them testing my plasma and everything was "perfect", the technicians words. I Answered a 35 minute survey they require. Then proceeded to wait as I witnessed three people leaving all shivering after donating. By the way The questionnaire explicitly shows if you are a homosexual male you cannot donate and if you have ever had a transplant of any kind you cannot donate. Since I had A cornea transplant when I was 13 I was told I am permanently deferred. So after someone telling me who tested my plasma that I'm a perfect candidate I was told no. Friendly, clean, efficient...What more could you ask for. Know what you're getting into, Yes your blood pressure has to be right, yes your heart rate can't be high, yes your blood has to be tested to make sure it's right for donation. Don't get mad if it's not, they test all of this prior to any donation and you'll be given paperwork to make sure you know how to eat and drink. The staff I spoke to during my last appointment were all very nice and friendly. However, I called to set up another appointment and the lady over the phone yelled at me because my form was a hold on my account. I was not informed that this was a hold on my account, and I was nothing but friendly prior to getting immediately yelled at. I understand that I should have assumed this was a hold, but I definitely believe that she could have definitely been nice and informative over this situation, rather than immediately yelling at me. I never write yelp reviews, but being yelled at over something so minor was unacceptable. read more
