Donating plasma I feel is a way to help others. Donating plasma is more involved than just donating blood. I started coming to BioLife after a family member told me about it. Yes you do get paid but they are sneaky how they do it. You get a small amount when you donate the first day and then they entice you with more on the second donation. Donations can only be done twice week. The problem here is the Denton location is severely understaffed. The employees are miserable. I can't tell you how many times I over heard two employees complaining about how many people are donating. Yeah that what I want to hear when you are shoving a needle in my arm. Avoid this location. Appointments are made every 5 mins. The problem is again they only use maybe half the donations beds and the employees are irritable and there just isn't enough of them to be effective. I had an appointment for 6pm on a Monday. I arrived and 5 mins before I completed my questionnaire. There were almost 30 people ahead of me. That's over an hour wait before you even get your clinicals done. Then you have to donate and it always takes about 15-30 minutes before they even start a machine. Then about 45 mins to donate plasma. Then another 15 minutes to get someone to get you out. Absolutely ridiculous. Do better. Whoever manages the Denton BioLife should be replaced, terminated, or sent to Alaska because they are not able to manage this place. The staff acts like it's only their time and not the patients that is valuable. I literally had one staff member tell me how miserable it is to work there and went on complaining about a patient in detail. Hey BioLife....i work in the medical field and your employee violated HIPPA. Good job. The BioLife staff doesn't care if you waste your time or if they waste yours. One employee told me they are understaffed and underpaid and they are the busiest location in the area. Maybe BioLife needs to cut back on appointment slots so they don't have us standing around waiting for 1-2 hours. This place sucks. It's absolutely not worth it for the measly amount of money you get paid. The staff is clearly unhappy and it shows. Now it seems the majority of people who go here are people on extremely low or no income. And I'm not judging anyone's financial status but I have noticed the people that show up to donate are rather dirty and unkempt.it used to not be this bad. They either will have to make major changes or this location will fail. It's an absolute disaster and crap show. If you are wanting to help and donate plasma please don't go here. It's absolutely abysmal. Which brings me to my final point. Cleanliness. It used to be a pretty clean place. I notice now it's rather dirty. I watch staff barely spraying and wiping down beds and a few instances I watched them not even clean a bed and put a patient on it. That's gross. All these issues have made me not want to ever go here. In fact I'll be filing a complaint about the HIPPA violations and the general poor service they provide.

BioLife Plasma Services - Hematoma I went on Monday morning to donate plasma. I usually go twice a week with no issues. I usually only donate with my left arm and have had no issues with that arm. I went in right as they opened and the guy who was to start the process started trying my left arm. He seemed to just be rushing and not really taking his time. For about FIVE minutes he kept repositioning his needle and everything. He then gave up and tried the right arm. He barely took time to find my vein at all. He then started putting in the needle and spent about another FIVE minutes repositioning the needle. He finally got it but it just didn't feel right. I moved my arm a bit and it felt better so I didn't say anything cause it's normal. After about 10 minutes of the machine going my cuff let out it's pressure and the pain started growing. It felt like something was in my arm and trying to literally claw its way out. The pressure was so so painful. I then called the guy over but he couldn't be bothered to stop what he was doing (retubing and empty station) so finally another person walked by and stopped the machine but he wouldn't take out the needle. Finally the guy took the needle out without saying anything then walked away. A lady stepped up and was actually finally talking to me and telling me what was going on. This happened on a Monday and it is now Wednesday. I was then given 20 bucks and the pain of a hematoma and not being able to fully do my job (lifting and working with animals)

2 hours post visit, 2nd time donating.

I arrive approx 20 minutes prior to my appointment time and walk to the windows to check in. The girl at my window is in a heavy heated discussion with a co worker about what she is going to order for lunch. This goes on for about five minutes (really) and I'm just standing there waiting to be addressed. She FINALLY turns to me and says how can I help you? Gee, imagine that. After I check in I ask a simple question i.e. why doesnt anyone ever answer the phones. We'll that was the wrong thing to ask. I had to listen for about three minutes of how hard they work and the workload they carry and how they miss there lunch hours etc. By the way, the gal I was speaking to didn't appear to miss too many lunches. Then I asked, why doesn't anyone return phone calls left on the clinic phone message? Well that was another no no . I got an earful that she was/is the manager and amongst her other duties as well as her coworker they just don't have the time. So at that point I gave up and started to return to my seat. When I was returning to my chair I glanced at the second window that has a gal sitting READING A FRIGGIN MAGAZINE. Can you beleive that. They can't answer phones, they can't call vets back. What the he'll is going on here. I guess the most important thing is getting lunch and catching up on the latest buzz from the gossip columns. Now let's remember I was there for labs. So I returned to my seat to wait to be called. And I waited and waited and waited and waited. Than I found out why I waited, they had ONE flabotomist and the line to give a urine sample and give a blood sample was about five deep. This location and it personnel are just a laughable bunch. Sitting around acting like they're over worked and vastly under paid. Oh one other travesty. As I was leaving I wanted to confirm my next appointment. After the girl spent about three minutes on the computer screen she turns to me and says "oh that appointment was cancelled". WHAT??? Her reply was oh your provider is going on vacation. When did that occur i queried? Oh, sometime earlier today. What the hell I was disgusted and walked. This is the "New" VA. Do a lot of us vets scrap it and start from scratch.

I would have expected better treatment, especially since no one else was in the ER. Within 15 minutes, I was in and out, but they made sure to get payment before I could even step out of the ER. I've called the hospital several times to discuss the bill and my treatment, but no one will return my calls. I even contacted the Patient Advocate Department, and still, no response. The medical profession needs to do better. Listen to your patients. Don't just collect the co-pay and push them out the door. Filling a patient full of pain meds is not medical treatment! The KedPlasma personnel then instructed me to thoroughly review the information in a Binder with health facts and other basic deferral knowledge. In this Binder it states "A recent tattoo may affect your eligibility to donate for a period of 4 months up to 12 months, depending on the state in which the tattoo was applied. You may be eligible to donate if your tattoos are older." After reviewing the information in the binder I was instructed to watch a 20 minute video that basically reiterated the information given in the Health Binder. After the video then came a 50+ questionnaire that I accurately completed. Then came the Health screening that was given to me by an impeccably courteous staff member by the name of Aseel. After passing the Screening I met with the Physician, a very colorful woman by the name of Brandi, with a tattoo of a Caterpillar on one ear and a Butterfly on the other. As a part of the physical she had to log all of my tattoos in detail so they would be able to tell if I ever received any new tattoos in the future. Which makes complete sense because hepatitis can be received through dirty needles that could possibly come from a tattoo, but my tattoos are 8 years old and healthy. After logging the tattoos on my forearms we came to the one on my left pectoral and then Brandi the Physician stated "It is the Policy of KedPlasma to deny anyone with a gang tattoo." I am a 27 year old black male that has been denied an opportunity to donate plasma at their facility not because of my health but because my tattoo is GANG RELATED. I have donated at the CSL Plasma and Octapharma Plasma centers with these same tattoos and was not denied. What my tattoo says should not determine the value of the person that who is donating. This is the clearest practice of discrimination I have ever endured and I deeply believe that "Justice will not be served until those who are unaffected are as outraged as those who are." -Benjamin Franklin
