Left arm after donating

They didn't prime the line, leaving air in the tubes. If the machine hadn't detected high levels of air and shut off they could have killed me.

They're so slow! They only have one person doing intakes. It takes an hour and half just to get on a bed to donate!

Dangerous environment with untrained staff that can do serious, permanent damage to your veins.

American Red Cross Blood Donation Center - My 25th blood donation

Happy World Blood Donor Day! It just so happened this day coincides with my regularly scheduled,…read moreevery 56 days blood donation day (: a happy coincidence. I recently relocated to the area and this was my very first time visiting this blood donation center. I have religiously donated to the American Red Cross for decades now and wanted to continue that consistency. In all honesty, I was really anxious about donating here after reading a majority of the reviews. I have a ton going on right now, navigating a relocation, new job, new home, my weekly running mileage, new climate etc. and I knew I was in no condition to endure any mishaps that would potentially cause me to not feel well or put me off on the commitment to my ARC blood donations. My sons gf is a nurse and if you know me, you know I love the F word, but there's one in particular that I can't handle when it comes to veins, needles, and blood donations and that's "fishing". I did not want it to come down to missing a vein, "fishing" around for one or any issue that would cause me pain/discomfort or a bad first experience here at this center. I'm so glad I overcame my apprehension about coming to my appointment, because every single interaction from my 1230p check in, screening and blood draw was 5 STAR! The staff on duty during my visit were incredible and I pray I get them every time. I've always been a strong advocate of donating blood. It's something I'm wildly passionate about. Please consider donating if you haven't, it's extremely rewarding knowing the direct impact it has on human lives. Wonderful experience for my 105th pint donation today.

At the previous visit, my wife and I had 11:00 a.m. appointments. We arrived early, around 10:45, and had completed all the online paperwork. The receptionist acknowledged us, and we waited. At 11:15, I walked up and reminded her we had appointments and were on a schedule. She apologized and told us to be patient. A walk-in group had apparently been taken ahead of us. At 11:25, she told us it would be at least another 15 minutes before we could be seen, so we walked out. Today, April 1, 2025, we gave them another shot. Same deal--11:00 a.m. appointments, online paperwork already done. We checked in and were told, "We'll be right with you." Nobody else was in the lobby. Staff were milling around--one at the copier, two in back flipping through paperwork. It looked like they were just opening up, even though the center had supposedly been open since 8:00. At 11:15, I reminded the receptionist again that we had scheduled appointments. Same response: "We'll be right with you." A few more people had arrived by then and were also just sitting around. At 11:25, we walked out--again. It's clear that this location isn't managed well. There's no sense of urgency, no respect for scheduled appointments, and honestly, no real sign that they care. Maybe Carter BloodCare isn't interested in whole blood donors anymore, or maybe the staff just doesn't want to be there. Either way, nobody was getting helped, and there was no excuse for it. We've never had this issue with the Red Cross location nearby--they run on time and treat donors like their time matters. Carter Plano feels like a place where donor commitment is met with indifference. The mix of one-star and five-star reviews kind of says it all--frustrated donors complaining, and probably staff or management padding the ratings. If your time matters to you, go somewhere else. I'm done with Carter.

I'm not new to this group and I can confirm there's been a shift in the past few months. The management is micro managing the employees and they have become robotic, inefficient and RUDE. From the front staff to management something's gone south! Management walks around like they are Gods making smirky reprimands to staff right in front of clients. That's me. I'm the client and I'm about 10 seconds from walking away and never returning. In addition to the negative environment I've experienced, I recently noticed staff/phlebotomist's with 1-1.5 inch fake nails. This is just gross. I don't want someone who wipes their butt with fake nails that could easily break the protective gloves exposing my blood stream to the disgusting crap hiding under their fake nails. How is this even allowed? Studies show that human nails are an incubator for germs and viruses. Add the fakes that trap more and you have a breeding ground for bacteria. You people need to rethink your management choices and heads need to roll. You are overwhelming your staff while the management are basically worthless and not only NOT contributing to the basic flow of business but are a huge detriment. DO BETTER!

It took me in the back for vitals, blood testing, etc. they were going to take platelets... They put me in the chair hooked me up... Started running the whole process... Then about five minutes later they come out and tell me that my platelet count was just under the threshold and they had to stop the process. they basically disconnected everything and sent me out. I told him I still needed to get blood... So can you just do that? The answer was "no since we started this process we can't". Clearly they should have known this before they got me in the chair... But the most frustrating part? I still needed to give blood. So I came back a month later... And then they say you just gave platelets so you can't. I don't think I did get platelets... As they stopped the process so quickly that it wasn't even a full process. In short... These guys are really disorganized. I don't know if this is how all the Carter centers are... But this one is really disorganized. I wasted a portion of two different Saturday mornings trying to donate. I won't be returning to the center. American Red Cross donation center in Plano...
