The actual doctors should treat all patients, not nurse practitioners. You pay a higher cost for an NA and you don't get to see the doctor.

I have had two visits now. Each time the visit was pleasant. The first was in early November. I was referred to this ENT office due to an abnormal thyroid ultrasound. I waited at least a week before calling to set up an appointment because I know it takes time for them to process the referral. When I called to make the appointment, the person I spoke to was kind, professional and very helpful. I saw Dr. Perlstein at the Tempe location. He was kind, knowledgeable and explained what was on my ultrasound in a way I could understand. He said I would need a biopsy, and thus a referral was sent to banner, and I was on my way. Fast forward to the end of December, my biopsy was done and I returned to Dr. Perlstein for the results. My husband, Dr. Perlstein and myself discussed the results and subsequent treatment options. Dr. Perlstein was great again at explaining things on the biopsy and different options on what to do. He gave me time to make a decision and with his guidance I feel confidant I made the right choice. Thank you for your kind, compassionate care. read more

I have been to several ENT's each with a negative review. Dr Richard Pearlstein ENT is where I should have started. He is on top of the game. He gives you the straight evaluation. He is a minimalist. Apt was at 3:30 and I arrived at 3:20 just Incase there was paperwork. There was paperwork. She said the doctor was 5 min behind at 3:32. It's now 4:30 and I haven't been seen for my 3:30 apt and there's still the same people in the lobby from when I first got here and they all seem to be wondering why they're waiting so long. Even a lady next to me with 2 kids asked me why it's taking so long so I just told her the yelp reviews show. Last time I was here the doctor said "make an apt for this certain week" well he was on vacation for the whole month so I couldn't make that apt! Wouldn't he know when his own vacation was? I was really skeptical about coming here again because I read all the other reviews and now I'm paying the price. Edit: finished the appointment, they couldn't do ANYTHING FOR ME they laugh and smirk because I'm mad which caused me to make a scene. So I made a scene to make sure the other clients know they're f****** wasting people's time! I walked out of my apt. 2.5 stars...shoulda known! Another edit: first time I went here they scolded me for not going to the ER instead. All the reviews on yelp are very accurate. Wait time, scolding, uncaring staff, smirk when you get noticeably annoyed with their weird a** attitudes. No empathy. And the more I keep reading all the reviews about people being very happy when they went to OTHER ent's it's CLEAR that Mendelsen needs his license taken away. I think they just like to waste people's time and get their co-pays and refuse surgeries and medicines.... why else would he tell me to schedule a surgery when he's on vacation. Years of pain when flying and crackling in my ear drums and today I decided to see Dr Christian Paquet, MD of Biltmore ENT who was stationed at this office today out of the 5 locations they have and in 5 minutes he looked in my ears and told me I have Eustachin Tube Dysfunction which is pretty common and ways to manage it etc. I've suffered in silence for years and it feels so great to know what's wrong with me finally! Absolutely life changing life experience! I would describe Dr. David Mendelson as professional, efficient, reserved, and humble. Hes not the kind of guy I would personally go drinking with but he is definitely someone I trust to be my surgeon and with my life. I have read many of the other reviews and I dont think they are a fair assessment of Dr. Mendelson or either of the two offices. I will admit that I did find him intimidating on first impression but I knew I was in capable hands. What you need to understand when you come here that Dr. Mendelson is not your primary care doctor he is a specialist. You need to at least have some idea of what you need done or help with before you arrive. Dr. Mendelson is a very intelligent and skilled doctor but he is not a mind reader and his time is limited. Take a few minutes while you in the lobby to think of what you want to ask him and the staff instead of browsing twitter and you will be fine. Dr. Mendelson explains everything in a very matter of fact way and is very clear on what it is he is going to do and what you need to do. He is not there for small talk and does not waste time; but as long as you are prepared with your questions he will listen and take the time to answer them. To say that he doesn't care about his patients is honestly infuriating. He has a job to do and he does it excellently. He is a doctor and a surgeon not a handyman on craigslist and as long as you can follow basic directions and understand that he knows much more about his practice than you do everything will be fine. Its honestly absurd that people can knowingly walk into the office of an expert, treat the staff like garbage, and then complain they didn't get a hug and an ego boost. If the doctor says you need tests run you go get the tests run. If you have to wait 30 minutes past your appointment its not because the staff hates you its because they are helping other people. of the 10 or so times I have been to one of the offices they have only not been on time once and was not waiting long. Rant over now I will go into my experience. Let me start this by saying I had an ear infection for 12 WEEKS and had been to 3 urgent cares and weekly visits to my primary care doctor. I was miserable during this time and nearly completely deaf in my right ear thanks to the infection. I was also born with a bad deviated septum and have never been able to breathe through my left nostril. Dr. Mendelson got my ear cleared up quickly and my hearing has improved again. I got the surgery for my nose and the very first day after I noticed improvement. For the first time in over a decade I have started dreaming again. Even while in recovery every time I woke up I felt more rested and happier. You dont have to live the rest of your life tired. If you are on the fence about getting your deviated septum corrected just go for it! It hurts way less then braces or an ear infection and it will change your life when its done. At the time of writing this my my insurance provider is AHCCS so its safe to say I am used to mediocrity in all things healthcare. Literally every single healthcare experience I have had before this has been worse than going to the DMV. Vanessa Vargas the surgery scheduler is the best patient advocate I have ever had. She fought with my insurance and other providers with me for over an hour. I wish I could call Vanessa every time I need to get anything done. She cared about making sure I got the care I desperately needed in a reasonable time frame. She was able to cut through the AHCCS crap and keep them accountable for what they are responsible for. The world would be a better place if there were more people like her. In closing the entire staff at ENT Specialists of Arizona kicks ass and thanks to them I was able to get the surgery I needed. If it wasn't for Dr. Mendelson and Vanessa I would still be at my primary care doctor with them telling me to keep trying nasal spray into a closed socket. Dr. Mendelson gets results and thanks to him and his team I have a new lease on life. I get to enjoy the blessing of living the rest of my life well rested and able to breathe. I can not overstate how amazing it is to have a truly restful night of sleep. Even the day after the surgery I was happier and more alert. Its like before the surgery I was living in a world without light. I strongly recommend anyone who needs sinus surgery go to ENT Specialists of Arizona. Dr. Suzanne Rauch was so amazing. I have had chronic, horrible ear infections for the last six months. Even though the pain had subsided, she still looked into my problem and gave me a diagnosis, and gave me a detailed explanation about my problem. I had been told by every other general doctor that I was nuts and my ear infections weren't happening. Suzanne made me feel SO much better and gave me some tips and solutions. She even had the audiologist test my hearing, which helped in my diagnosis too. The receptionists at this office are super kind and patient too. The best ENT office experience I've had. read more

I called to schedule a appointment the day after my referral was faxed and was told it had not processed yet and that they would call beginning of the following week.. Thursday of the following week 1 week after the referral was sent I called and spoke to a Donna who was rude and unhelpful and stated that it took 7 days for a referral that was faxed to go through... they have yet to call. It was day 7 that Thursday it is now Tuesday the following week and still have not heard back from this location. I went back up to my doctor and had my referral faxed somewhere else and I am already scheduled.. horrible customer service and no follow up told my doctors office they should not refer anyone to this location. read more

I am looking for a new ENT. I've seen Dr. Mendelson 4 times and am not impressed with numerous things. 1. His bedside manner leaves much to be desired. He rushes in, spends a couple of minutes with you then spends the majority of time dictating his report in the computer. His is much more personal with the microphone than with the actual patient. Makes it seem like we had some in depth conversation about possible treatment plans, which we didn't at all. 2. He does not spend much time explaining your diagnosis and all the possible options and what those mean. He said I was a good candidate for surgery, but didn't explain why, what that entails or how I would benefit. I tried to press for more information, but didn't get much. He basically just said let me know what you want to do and rushed out while I was still grasping for information. 3. I wasn't seen until OVER an HOUR past my appt. time. read more

I was referred to Dr. Mendelson after dealing with chronic sinusitis and breathing problems. After a couple appointments and a CAT scan, we determined that surgery would be the best way to fix my issues. The surgery and post-op followups all went by without complications, and I'm now much better than I was. Throughout the care, the doctor let me know exactly what was and wasn't going on, discussed my options with me, and helped me make informed decisions on my care. I'll admit that sometimes the face-time with the doctor was a little sparse, but he got the job done well and I'm quite thrilled about my rediscovered ability to breathe clearly again. Nearly all of my appointments happened on time. The one exception was a day when he had to deal with an emergency case that set the other appointments back. His nurses and PA are all awesome and provided excellent care. His office staff are pretty okay - there would be times when they'd get their hands a little more full than they could handle, but I was never left hanging by them for an inappropriate amount of time. read more

I had a weird scratchy/sore throat and wanted to have it checked out. I knew it wasnt strep, but was worried that it may have been nodes (Im a singer, and nodes are common). I searched thru my insurance and came up w/ ENT Specialists located in the building next to Tempe St Lukes Hospital. I was greeted the minute I walked through the door. I had taken the receptionists advice about downloading the registration forms from their website and filling them out before I came in, so I waited all of 10 minutes. The receptionist, nurse, and doctor I had were all very nice. My doctor was very chatty, and made me feel at ease. She gave me my diagnosis (Vocal Reflux) and let me go. I was in and out in 40 minutes. I would absolutely recommend this office to anyone w/ a throat problem. read more

I came to Dr Mendleson because of chronic sinus infections. He was able to finally figure out a multitude of sinus issues. Sent me to dentist for some teeth issues causing sinus issues (who knew?) which led me on to finally getting sinus surgery. Now I'm feeling great and had a great experience with the office staff and doctor. read more

I decided on surgery to fix my sinuses and deviated septum. He is an amazing doctor! I have felt so great for the past 2 months since my surgery. Whom ever answers your appointment line is the most rudest person ever. I held for 10 minutes and when she came back on the line there was no "hello, thank you for holding" I just heard a bunch of noise in the background. I call back again and she asks me to hold again I then say "well last time I heard a bunch of noise" she then says " well I am in the middle of something can you hold" I then hold for another few minutes. I still get no " thank you for holding " she just says hello. I asked what time they close and she hesitated on the daily schedule. Zero help. read more

They have to make their own diagnosis and do testing to diagnose you and you have to ask to have everything explained what's going on then they do nothing to treat you or help you. Never going back waste of time and money. I wish I would have read the reviews before choosing this doctor. I scheduled this appointment 3 weeks ago. That is over three weeks I have felt like crap and had something wrong with my ear. This doc was the absolute worst. He didn't seem to have time to care what was going on with me. I'm not sure he even asked what all had been going on with me, or what was wrong. Literally almost smirked at the fact that I was borderline in tears after he told me "you are doing everything you can right now". Had me do a hearing test, I'm pretty sure this is just a way to get more money out of patients because I 100% didn't need it nor did I ask for it. Then to top it off he gives some some garbage diagnosis with this all being a jaw issue. WHAT?! Dude, stop treating people like they aren't important or like they aren't your job. Called the office after I left and told them not to sent my info to the CT scan place because I would be finding a new doctor - there was no "I'm sorry, what happened?" Or any type of concern. We call, they say call back, we call, they say call back, then they say come in...and no fricking results because he failed to request a comparison study from the previous test....Uh NO, this is not how any professional should operate. The staff is very rude and does NOT have any bedside manners as doctors should have...medical school 101, he fails! TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE place to go!!!!! After spending years with multiple doctors in various cities I found Dr. Mendelson . He diagnosed a difficult condition and had it verified by a specialist in that discipline. Having suffered for over 7 years, I am now nearly symptom free and am pursing relief from other problems that may or may not be related to the original diagnosis. I can honestly say he is the best diagnostician that I have met and am very grateful for the relief from symptoms that have plagued me, especially when other specialists admitted that they had no idea what my problem was. Dr. Fateh, who is employed by Dr. Mendelson, is brilliant and has helped me with a hearing loss. She fit me with hearing aids that have changed my life. The staff at the office is exceptional . The entire staff at this office is completely incompetent. I went here in Jan 2012, and after waiting AN HOUR past my appointment time, I was finally taken back to the exam room. I had been experiencing a sharp ear pain and all I wanted was some medicated ear drops.... Dr Mendelson prescribed me NASAL SPRAY. In addition they made me do a hearing test which came back normal (which btw that lady treated me like I was 5 years old and special needs). I think the staff should take the hearing test themselves because THEY DON'T LISTEN to anything their patients tell them. I left the office in tears. read more

Took my son to Dr. Guttenplan because he was having issues that another ENT office was unwilling to help with, saying that he was fine, when he actually had a relevant issue. On the first visit with Dr. Guttenplan, he didn't say much at all but ordered tests that were needed to determine my sons issue. At the follow up visit he kindly went over options for surgery, and it was scheduled. We did have an issue with the scheduling of the surgery on their end, but the scheduler did what needed to be done to fix the error and we actually had his surgery done earlier than originally scheduled. Surgery went well. Dr. Guttenplan went over all the details immediately following surgery. He explained home care and scheduled follow ups accordingly. The only thing I would have liked is to have been told to get the prescriptions beforehand, but they were given to us at the hospital, so I had to drive thru the pharmacy on the way home with my son. Fast-forward a couple months. My son is no longer having the issues he was having before surgery. We are happy with the results of the surgery, which was a pretty big deal. The staff were all good with us. There was never a long wait before appointments. Thank you to Dr. Guttenplan and staff! I need to add to my original review, as our experience with this office has changed. I was grateful for Dr. Guttenplan and he also did surgery for my youngest son for ear tubes and we had a positive experience. All was ok, until our last visit to this office. Dr. Guttenplan is no longer with the practice, so we were scheduled with Dr. Kaplan for follow ups with both boys. When we arrived at the office (10 min. early) the girl at the front desk told me that Dr. Kaplan may only have time to see one of the boys since we were late and paperwork takes 30 min. to fill out. "Paperwork?" Apparently we were scheduled as new patients since we were new to Dr. Kaplan. After determining this, the girl had to notify the doctor and staff that it would be ok to see us still. I feel it all went downhill from there. We saw a doctor in training before seeing Dr. Kaplan. This doctor spent about 20 minutes with us, mainly asking tons of questions. When Dr. Kaplan finally made it into the room, the first words out of his mouth were that he couldn't be of any help to my son. Ummmm...he hadn't even checked him out for himself yet. He spent a decent amount of time with the boys, but seemed very arrogant and he is not a very good listener. Sorry to say that this one bad experience in this office will end here. read more

I actually do not care waiting little longer; however I did not understand why he rushed in, just less than 30 seconds consultation and rest of the time dictated report to computer. My son was born with a tongue tie. We had numerous problems with another ENT and his unwillingness to help knowing that it was causing eatting issues for our baby. i was reffered to DR. Miller of ENT specialist of Arizona. I had already been there before because Dr. Medleson had placed tubes in my daughters ears two years previous. Wish I could give 0 stars. Classic case of "know it all" doctor. Incredibly rude. Just walked in, didn't introduce himself, just said ,"Hi" and sat down at his computer. Didn't look at me once as I talked to him. Said I needed an MRI before I was even done talking to him about my symptoms. Said "I'm going to put some medicine in your nose," and immediately squirted it in without me saying "ok" or any acknowledgment. When I asked him if it was antibiotics, he simply replied, "No" without looking at me. I as to ask him what it was that he just squirted in my nose without my permission (and of course charged me for). Asked him about some treatments and he blew me off saying, "we'll talk about that after you get the MRI." Glad I listened to my gut and did NOT spend the money on an MRI. My sinus infection cleared up a few days later. One of the worst doctors I've ever seen. I am a middle-aged hispanic male. Even an "Hi, I'm Dr. Mendelson," would have gone a long way. The office staff is rude and unfriendly after the 1st visit , they do not want to help you when it comes to a child having surgery from them. they do not give proper post-op information or guide lines . there was one Doctor that is in this office that did not even do my daughters surgery but he was the man that put my mind at ease and gave the right information . that is really sad for a Dr office . read more

We had not been in this office (Mesa) for over 2 yrs, our appt was for 2:45pm and told to be there 20min ahead of that time. We were, and waited for an hr before complaining about time waiting to see dr. Recept. said 2 patients ahead of us - there were at least 6 called in while we waited. I swear after we complained they put our file under all the others. We finally just left after waiting to be called back for over 1.5 hours. And the worst thing is they play a stupid Eddie Murphy movie and have absolutely no magazines!!! read more

The financial advisor for the Tempe location was extremely rude and did not listen to the concerns that I had about my bill. Despite having several forms and documentation, EOB statement showing the balance that was left to pay; the advisor did not even look upon these papers. Rather she looked at her computer, pulled up her own outdated billing and argued the bill with me. Then she stated that she did not accept my Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance despite having accepted a check from them previously. She consistently belittled me and acted like I was incompetent to understand the bill even though I had recently printed out my EOB statement which clearly showed the fees that were owed. I have thus contacted my insurance who called the office. In my line of work Customer Service a TOP priority. I would suggest that this office hire some personnel who know the billing process or how too read an EOB statement and how to deal with patients. I will never refer anyone to do business with this office because of the incompetent personnel they wish to represent their business. There are many other competent doctors who can provide the same services and hopefully have a friendlier staff. I hope that the Doctors like getting a negative YELP review due to incompetent and rude employees they hire. This is now being address by Blue/Cross and their main office who can hopefully understand the insurance contract and EOB. Get rid of the lady in the finance office... she will cost you business!! Nobody wants to have multiple visits to the Dr. Unfortunately for me, I had a couple conditions happening at the same time which required multiple visits. I had two surgeries done by Dr Mendelson within a month of each other - one in my ear and one for my sinuses. I could not have asked for a more skilled, thorough, kind doctor than Dr Mendelson. A few months later, the tumor is completely gone from my inner ear, and my sinuses are clear and I have discovered how it feels to truly be able to breathe Dr Mendelson's staff are just as wonderful as him. They have taken time to answer all of my questions, fit me in to his schedule when needed, and help me understand my options for treatment. Like I said, nobody wants to spend a lot of time at the dr, but since I had conditions that required me to, I'm glad it was with Dr Mendelson. If ever I need an ENT again, he will definitely be the one I go to. read more
