Several winters ago I had 5 pipes burst due to extreme cold on the waterfront and had to fight insurance to receive coverage. My voice must have been panicked when I talked to Scott about the problem because he made time for a service call on New Years Eve! The parts needed to repair my heat were not common so he had to get them the following week and come back. Scott's service was professional and prompt and he came across as friendly and competent. I am a dentist and entrepreneur practicing in Silver Spring, MD. Throughout my 10+ business…read moreendeavors I have worked with many different contractors and HVAC companies. Doing so I realized how difficult it would be for a lot of people to choose a good HVAC company that is honest and knowledgeable in their field, while professional in a first class manner. Our cooling system went kaput during the heat wave of 2012. We contacted dozens of companies and received bids from at least six major HVAC companies - we looked not only local but nationwide. Fresh Air Concepts gave one of the best bids and we decided to do a contract with them. After signing a contract I was so impressed with their professionalism and how they worked and operated in the building. Because of this I decided to write a review and give them credit, and to help people find a honest HVAC company Fresh Air Concepts worked in a 30,000 sq ft building for two months but we hardly noticed when they were working, even when they stayed crazy hours from 4:30am to late evening. There are always available to help issues that were non-related. The owner, Joe, was always available to answer my questions and respond to issues. Any calls hardly ever went to voicemail and someone usually picks up the phone - I would say 6 out of 7 times I called someone picked up. Their business operation is impressive with their professional fleet with standardized logos on work vehicles and their crew, from engineers to installers, wearing standardized and recognizable uniforms.

It took a 15 days to get the parts, but that was not a problem. They sent the second string tech to install the parts and he did complain about the commission the other tech was getting for selling me the replacement parts. Tech #2 did not use a ground Strap before touching the new circuit board! This can cause problems in the future from static discharge. Remember the service providers are on commission!

So I called A Comfort Zone to come out and fix my upstairs unit which was blowing out hot air. I…read morewasn't sure about using them since their rates were a little higher then others in the area. They called back and said they had a fall special to come out for $75 vs their usual rates. I agreed and so they came out. Found out the capacitor was bad. Unfortunately, my wife was home, and she agreed to the job of fixing the capacitor with a new one. In a nutshell, they came out and fixed the problem. In turn, they charged me close to $400 for the new capacitor with labor. I'm not sure if anyone has seen how easy of a fix is on a capacitor, but it's about 10 minutes max! Look on YouTube to see how easy and fast it is. The capacitor also goes for about $32 on Amazon, I'm sure cheaper thru a distributor. Their labor rates are $37.50 for every 15 minutes, so this capacitor came out to be close to $367.50!!!!! I just had this job done down at the beach and it only cost me $146.50 with labor. I called them back and asked them why the discrepancy. They said they were competitively priced. I called around to 3 other local AC companies and their capacitor prices ranged from $45-$65 not $367.50! I told them to come take it out and take it back. Luckily they were gracious enough to come and take it back. My total cost went from $541.93 to $151.43 for labor only and a unit still not working. Luckily, I ordered the same capacitor from Amazon which will be here tomorrow. Be careful with these smooth operators.
