Being from Baltimore i have very high standards for Blue Crabs. This place reminds me of the best places to get crabs back home, no frills and off the beaten path. Employees were friendly and i got a half bushel of steamed number one jimmies for $65!!! On top of that there were definitely more than a half bushel as there were 60 crabs all extremely heavy. As they claim, best prices and freshest seafood on the beach! Not knocking other local seafood marts, but I haven't been disappointed in 30 years, so.....why change? We were at Billy's yesterday for tuna steaks, but we purchase tuna loins instead for the grill tonight. We marinated the tuna and grilled it to a delicious rare-to-medium rare. Two lbs of tuna and a couple of lbs of large NC shrimp later....we had a happy dad and 2 satisfied teens, 6'6" & 6'4" (so not easily filled up)....too bad mom couldn't make the trip this weekend! We are blessed to have a house within 15 minutes of Billy's, so when the urge strikes we can be there, back, and enjoying the best Carolina seafood inside of an hour. I am spoiled on NC shrimp, so will not eat any other.....and Billy's is my place to go!! read more

The seafood is always fresh and they run specials that are more than generous! The staff is always nice and knowledgeable especially if you've never had a certain type of fish and want to know what it tastes like or how to cook it. Its not usually busy and has that mom and pop feel. They have some groceries and you never know what you might find but it will almost always be good. Unfortunately, I stopped by the day before I was leaving but I was so glad I did. The fish was fresh and the seafood was clean and nicely displayed on ice. I read a negative review about how they keep the seafood displayed and it was clean and sanitary to me. I will definitely be stopping by the next time I go to the outer banks. read more

Without any doubt, the BEST seafood market on the OBX ! They get the best little neck clams, different size shrimp, and blue crabs. If you have them steam your purchase for you, they use generous portions of Old Bay (so be sure to tell them to go lightly if you don't want a lot!). We called around several places in OBX for crabs and everyone was out or said they were not in season. We called Billy's and they said no problem. Picked up a half bushel of crabs in 20 minutes. This old local place looked very good from their ratings on yelp. They were selling warm seafood that was in no way being iced properly. They had pounds and pounds of shrimp in metal pans on TOP of ice. They had oysters for sale, but no shellfish tags indicating harvest date and location as required by state and federal regulations. When asked, they said-"they came in a few days ago" the bags were again on TOP of ice, and the majority of the oysters were at room temperature. Bacteria multiplies EXTREMELY fast above 41F, and these were being held at at least 65F. This outfit has zero concept of proper food safety procedures. The same with fish fillets, in a pan, room temperature on top. The only things stored properly were whole fish with ice under and over them, and frozen items in a freezer. If you value your health, shop elsewhere. It looks like a road widening threatens their business, cheers for that! read more

Great fresh local seafood! Once you buy seafood from Billy's you will always want to buy your fish and seafood from Billy's. We have been going there for over seven years and are always happy with the quality of the seafood! Purchased oysters this time and the McCormick's Seafood Breading. The fried oysters were absolutely delicious. Everyone working there is always friendly and very helpful. They have a variety of other grocery items too but the seafood is their specialty. Highly recommend Billy's for their fresh seafood, soft shell crabs , crab meat, and regular crabs, oysters, shrimp, clams and their locally caught fish. It is fun to cook the wonderful fresh seafood from Billy's and your friends and family will appreciate the delicious dinner! read more

Billy's was great ordered a half of the blue crab steamed and seasoned at 2 for pick up at 6. Crabs were hot and waiting for me along with 3lbs of king crab legs. Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. I will be going back today for some scallops and jumbo shrimp to cook on the BBQ. Highly recommend Billy's if you're in the area. My kids 3, 4 & 9 loved using the mallets to break and eat the crabs. They called it the bam bam bam. read more

This will be one of my go-to's anytime I come to OBX. We got their steamed shrimp. And they were delicious!! Bought a pound of medium and a pound of large shrimp, medium to lightly seasoned. Billy's is a step back in time. The experience is fantastic - where else can you buy fresh seafood, shrimp boat boots, and floor cleaner. The seafood is as fresh as it comes. We bought shrimp and scallops and threw in some tuna salad and coleslaw for good measure. We had the shrimp spiced and steamed and regretted it. The seasoning is much too salty - all salt it seemed. Drifted into town in August looking for an R.V. park and was directed up the Colington Road. I think we stayed at the Colington R.V. park (which makes sense but there was no sign!) There was no-one there, but we were tired and hooked up anyway. Next morning there was still no-one in the office, so I knocked on another campers door and they directed us to Billy's seafood. Wandering in I saw a spread of delights we can only dream of in England. I paid for the night 's stay and couldn't leave without some jumbo shrimp and cocktail sauce. I purchased a dozen #1 Jimmies. Got them home and thought they were pretty light. Started filling my steamer and counted 15 crabs. Gotta give Billy's credit for not just throwing 12 in the bag and move onto the next customer. I am certain they felt 12 was just not the right thing to do so they threw in 3 to make up for the lightness. Way to look out for the customer. Definitely will be back!!! read more
