Worst customer service confrontation I've ever encountered. I am a single mom awaiting knee surgery. The last time I grocery shopped, I stood at the check out and had my kid run around and get things. This time, my sick toddler with disabilities was still asleep and nothing to eat so I left the older kid to be there for her while I tried to hurry and get food. Initially, I only found weird, organic dino nuggets. On the far end of the store, I eventually saw regular Dino nuggets so I switched them out. At this point im barely able to stand and wincing back tears because my knee hurts so bad. An older man, probably 60s, hired to do stock, raised his voice at me and said, "That doesn't go there!" and demanded i put the organic dino nuggets back on the far side of the store. No matter what I said, he yelled at me more. Meanwhile, im barely able to stand and hoping to get home to my kids before an issue should arise. It was ridiculous and unprofessional for a stock boy to continously yell at me this way over what is the result of a flaw in the layout of the store. If I weren't having mobility issues and childcare concerns, sure, it's polite to put it back however far away but I physically couldn't amd got beraded. read more

This is a great Harris Teeter. We always spend some time browsing because the Tesla Superchargers are stationed here. It's a very clean and well stocked store. Our GO TO grocery store on the Outer Banks. The beer and wine section is great. The deli and fresh foods section is also nicely stocked. Bottom Line: Best grocery store on the beach although the prices are a bit high. In general, grocery prices in the Outer Banks are likely going to be higher than at home. So if I am going to pay a premium for groceries at the beach, I prefer to do it at this large and gorgeous Harris Teeter. A few things I really appreciate about this store are the cleanliness, lovely displays, large produce section and walk in beer cooler. Yes, pushing my way through the double swing doors into the beer cooler is what I imagine my arrival at heaven to be like. But for my sister, the Starbucks here is more heavenly and saves her from driving down to MP 2 for her Chai Tea addiction. read more

This is the first time I've visited a Harris Teeter, and this location is pretty nice. There's a Starbucks right as you walk in with full service, and the store itself looks very modern and updated. Having a Harris Teeter at the beach was a godsend. They stock lots of great fresh veggies, juices, fruits etc. as well as lots of mainstream and a few craft beers. I didn't really check the wine section since we came prepared but I am sure it was decent. They also have a full store of groceries so when we decided to try out some new recipes with the whole family this is where we shopped especially for spices and baking needs. All checkout lines were open on a Saturday, with real people, (none of this self checkout crap)! Fast checkout service and you could find employees when shopping to answer questions relating to location of products (which is rare). Seems odd, to be writing a review of a supermarket, but this one deserves a shout-out. We vacation in OBX, and while there, we often go to a local supermarket for fresh items such as fruit, salads, sandwiches or sushi, for lunch. The first thing that strikes us, as we enter HT, is the clean and airy appearance of the store. In the six years we've visited this place, it looks as shiny and bright as the first time we went there. The produce is very reasonably priced and absolutely fresh. Their sushi is varied and packaged nicely. They've even added a Pizza Bar, where you can get a slice or more of real gourmet pizza varieties! Although they have no salad bar, they do have an excellent "olive bar," where you can get several varieties of olives, and even artichoke heart salad. Their cheeses are many and varied, and it's great to know that getting your lunch at HT isn't like "camping out," but a real treat. For anyone traveling to the OBX, make it a stop. read more

Harris Teeter and I have a very difficult relationship. It's a great store with great quality in terms of what it offers. I'll give it that. When I'm inland I can find groceries cheaper and with not much of a variation in quality. My problem with it in my hometown runs much deeper than that though! Brace yourself...the Harris Teeter in Kill Devil Hills SITS WHERE A WATER PARK USED TO BE!!! Yep...they came in, bulldozed the water park I used to play at and built a horrible Harris Teeter in its place. Oh Diamond Shoals we miss you. I thought a water park had a place on an island far more than another grocery store. Thankfully they did that after I went off to college, but still, really?!? Because of this I will rarely step foot in there unless for something important or out of sheer convenience (it's so far to drive those short miles to a grocery store on another part of the island...yes, laugh at me local girl). All that aside...deep breath! They have a great wine selection. They've given many locals jobs when the construction jobs dried out. They're open 24 hours. They rent carpet cleaners. They have Red Box... Still... We were doin' just fine with our Food Lions and Seamark Foods (locally owned fresh market great grocery store) before you came along Teeter! 'nuff said. read more

Boy, am I glad they added this store here. We go to the store up in Corolla when we head north, but when we go south to Ocracoke, we would stop by the Food Lion in Avon. It was just a basic grocery store, but I really love the selection at Harris Teeter. Oh, I cannot wait to get to the wine section. Another great thing is it is open 24 hours. We drive down to the Outer Banks in the middle of the night to avoid the traffic. So getting here early, shopping and down to the Hatteras/Ocracoke ferry early in the morning is wonderful. read more

Harris Teeter is one of the only OBX grocery stores to distribute plastic bags immediately after the ban was repealed by NC. These plastic bags are a danger to marine life and a hazard to our fragile beach environment. Food Lion, Fresh Market, and Walmart do not offer plastic bags. read more

Well, management really have to step up. Overpriced fruits and veggies sitting on a shelves until spoiled but still would not be marked down. Not enough cashiers, most of the time u have to pack your own groceries to help keep the line moving. And horrible customer service at deli. Not enough they slow and talking to each other ( like you have all night to wait for them chat). Beware of a rude older lady at deli- always making faces when u try to order more ( really? Like I take it for free). They always want you to tell a full order, but later dont remember and get your order wrong. Anyway, a lot of things to improve. Honestly, start to go to their competitors more just because of customer service. read more

We are local and have shopped at the Kill Devil Hills Harris Teeter for years. We have always been able to count on their exceptional customer service. Unfortunately that does not seem to be the case the last few times we have visited. We went in late one evening to purchase some "fresh" fish. The gentleman behind the seafood counter acted exasperated that he actually had to help us and to top it all off when we got home and unwrapped the fish, it was readily apparent that it was rotten. Yesterday, I stoped in the store twice, only a few registers open and no one bagging. Today, the 4th of July, only three registers open and again no one bagging. There was a gentleman standing at the front whose name tag read "Doug" I believe was a manager, but he seemed to be simply surveying the situation. It would have shown me and his employees something if he had actually helped by bagging. Hopefully someone will read this who can and is willing to make the needed changes. Otherwise I fear they are going to start loosing local business to other grocery stores whose prices are consistently less or whose customer service is better. read more

For many years I have always used the grocery store in OBX. They have fresh produce, meat, and cheese. They have pizza deals so you can get a pizza and a gallon of lemonade for less one day and other deals the rest. The employees are nice. And if you have kids or you just want a cookie at the end they have a container of them to just grab one. I would say that overall it is a great place to get some food or just anything you forgot while on vacation. read more

We visit this store many times during the year as we have a second home on Hatteras Island. Maybe it's a little pricey (which is the only reason I didn't give it 4 stars) compared to Food Lion, but it's so much nicer and cleaner store than the Food Lion's. We stop at the KDH store on the way to Hatteras and buy fish for dinner that night. They even pack it in ice for us. All the employees are helpful and pleasant. My understanding is that another Harris Teeter will be built somewhere on Hatteras and I can't wait. read more

Apparently leaving your items in your basket and placing it on the register belt is not welcomed at this Harris teeter with the cashier on register 3 (Joyce D. on 4/18 at 8:15p). She started to grab the items from the basket and proceeded to literally slam my items on to belt one by one (only had 5 items) and then slammed the basket even harder on the other side of the scanner trying to make some sort of statement. Didn't ask for my VIC card, didn't say hello, didn't say anything. Didn't realize this was a no no. My fault. But prob shouldn't have the cranky lady on the register where they have to interact with your customers. But that's just me. Didn't appreciate the service or lack there of.
