We needed snacks for family board game night (OBX-opoly is a favorite). The popcorn place closed early, so I swung into Try My Nuts. The good: The people were SUPER friendly and helpful. I was looking for sweet + salty and they helped me find their new popcorn in both caramel corn and butter. The popcorn was really good. Not the best ever (prepackaged), but it fit the bill and didn't cost an arm and a leg. Did I mention how nice and helpful the staff were? Well, they were great! The bad: The name. I know this is an OBX mainstay, but with an autistic 8-yo son who needs to know all about EVERYTHING all the time and who goes on and on about anything new to him, I could never see myself bringing him into this store. I don't have the energy to explain the joke (it's a weak joke to begin with) and then hear about it for the next day and a half. We would also not go to Dirty Dick's, Biscuits and Porn or any other place with a suspect name (regardless of the quality of what they do). It's just not worth the hassle. Rating the candies/snacks here. The chocolate covered peanuts, peanut butter meltaways, clusters, anything prepackaged in a bag is delicious. Good quality, prices are a little high for what it is but it's Duck and it's vacation so I try to be flexible. The White Trash is cloyingly sweet but sometimes really hits the spot. There's always been a certain type of humor at a place called Try My Nuts but the FJB merchandise is not clever or interesting. Not buying anything from there this year, the vibe isn't for me anymore and the products don't justify shopping at this store for me anymore. read more

This place is awesome! Never knew there were so many flavorful nuts, and to top it all off, great merchandise! The shirts they sell are super comfortable and funny! We try to pop in once a day to say hi. Also picked up this sweet bit of merchandise while I was there ( as seen in picture below). After 8 years visiting this shopping center I finally stopped in this store. Very friendly and funny staff, and so helpful and patient with all the kids roaming the store looking at everything! I see that a lot of the negative reviews are about their political views but I felt very welcomed in this store the minute I walked in... and I'm no Trump supporter! We were offered so many delicious samples and couldn't stop laughing with the staff in this store. Every customer walking out after me came out with a big smile as well. I just wished I bought more of the chocolate covered Ritz peanut butter crackers. They were delicious! Can't wait to come by again next summer and hopefully I'll have the same experience. read more

We were here 2 times in our 1 week stay. I went in particular for their selection of hot sauces. There is 3-4 shelves of hot sauce selections. It might have taken a half hour to examine each kind available. I went directly for the hottest stuff and picked out "The Ghost" made with bhut jolokia peppers for $12. Nuts nuts nuts! Call me the nutcracker cause I just can't get enough of them. Which is why I had my husband make a sharp turn off the highway when i saw "try my nuts". Upon entering the establishment I was greeted by two girls (shocking considering the name) and offered several samples. A blend of cereal, pecans, and pretzels covered in white chocolate and called "white trash" was among one of the sample. The girl told me it was their best seller and upon tasting it I understood why. I also sampled an abundance of different nuts. Spicy nuts, sweet nuts, caramelized nuts... All great. I Would say this place is more about hot sauce and novelty gifts than nuts though. Warning, if you are the type to be easily offended do not go inside. Almost all the hot sauces had x rated names and descriptions. Actually, just about everything in here besides the nuts could be taken offensively. But then again, I doubt that you would stop into a place called "try my nuts" if you were offended. Even the owner, who was very nice, said things that could be taken offensively by others. At one point he asked my husband and I If we though our marriage was gonna last. Huh???? Lol. Thankfully we both have a great sense of humor. The place is a bit expensive. For a medium sized bag of white trash and a small bag of toffee peanut brittle i paid almost 40 bucks but we don't go on vacation much so we allow ourselves small splurges when we do. read more

Always a stop while staying in outer banks. The churro bites are amazing as well as the white trash (basically white chocolate covered snack mix). The owner also gave us a sample of the candied pecans which were some of the most delicious I've ever tried. If you're looking for fun gifts this is also a great place to try, a lot of creatively named hot sauces. read more

A favorite stop of ours, when visiting OBX, this particular store didn't earn the five stars I'd like to give it. Since our last visit, it seems to have become a bit sparse. The rack containing the wide selection of hot sauces with a million different names and levels of heat were thinned out considerably - a bit of a disappointment. There seems to be less of everything. But Try My Nuts will always be a charming and interesting place for gifts, from those hot sauces I mentioned, to tee shirts, to mugs, to old-fashioned candies (I bought Bonomo's Turkish Taffy, a childhood favorite of mine). read more

I loved stopping by this place with my boyfriend when we were in the OBX. I had not laughed so much in a long time. I wanted to purchase most of the items just for laugh gags. I love the name of this place obviously, but the nuts are indescribably delicious. The prices could obviously be better, but what do you expect? It's definitely a fun place to grab a souvenir or two. They have so many unique flavors it's so hard to pick. I've gotten a tin can of Jalapeno Cheddar, and a can of, "On Fire." I wanted to buy everything I sampled at Try My Nuts. Quite nice fudge flavors: Samoa (like the girl scout cookies), thin mint, peanut butter, etc. The fudge here is better than at Forbes, which was just okay and grainy. The fudge at Try My Nuts has better flavor and texture. Downside: the minimum amount you can buy is half a pound. At Forbes, they sell quarter pounds; however - who wants a quarter pound of bad fudge? read more
