Really cute neighborhood bakery that serves cakes, cupcakes, tea, & coffee. They have a few seats for folks that want to enjoy their treats inside.

Billy's Bakery is wonderful. I ordered a cake for my son's first birthday, and it exceeded all expectations. The cake was beautiful, delicious, and made with great quality ingredients--everyone at the party loved it. On top of that, the service was friendly, helpful, and easy from start to finish, which made the whole experience stress-free. I couldn't have asked for a better cake for such a special occasion. Highly recommend.

We don't live in the neighborhood but would come here much more often if we did. The cupcakes, cookies, etc. are all very good. They focus on baked goods that may not look fancy but taste homemade! This is mostly a takeout bakery, but there is a place to sit as well.

Just stopped by Billy's because it's close by our apartment. What an insulting slice of carrot cake they sold to us for $8! Opened box to see the smallest piece of cake that almost looks half eaten. Never again. Plenty of other bakeries in this city. Thumbs down .

On a rainy weekend morning, we snuck into Billy's to get out of the rain, and sat, dry and warm, in a corner sipping my coffee and nibbling at an Everything Croissant while locals came in and out, some for daily coffee, some for vacation treats, and some to pick up big orders for parties of various sorts throughout the day. The friendly folks at the counter were hustling and bustling to attend to each customer while a lady in the back was decorating cakes, probably for the next big party. A nice snapshot of Chelsea through the eyes of a local bakery. But most importantly, a damn good cup of coffee in a pleasant and happy corner of the island. If you're looking for a break, stop in to Billy's Bakery and grab a slice of the lower west side.

I'm sorry I have to write this review, but I've been coming to Billy's cupcakes for years & the cupcakes used to be so moist and delicious. Now they are just dry and seem to be dry in all locations. I don't know what's happen in the last few years but I guess I just continue to support Molly's cupcakes .. even tho I don't like her red velvet as much as I liked Billy's red velvet:(

Purchase an assorted box of cupcakes this weekend, wasn't impressed. The cupcakes all tasted like they were made from a mix you buy at a grocery store topped with tons of suger toppings. I wouldn't go back.

Tried their famous carrot cake!! Pros: No lines. the cake was moist and delicious. Was it life changing? No but it's a solid choice! Cream cheese frosting could've been creamier and stronger :,)

I started going to Billy's like 15-18 years ago when it was a convenient Magnolia-like output in Chelsea. At the time, I probably tried everything offered and it was all delicious. On my most recent trip to NYC I was able to have a little taste of dessert before dinner and it's still yummy! Red Velvet Cupcake: A classic! Moist fluffy red cake. Lots of creamy cream cheese frosting. Together, they make an amazing pairing.

    Shipped banana cake :(

This is a review specifically for the SHIPPED cakes. TLDR: unless you are a die hard fan... don't get it shipped, better enjoyed at the bakery. We are longtime Billy's supporters of over 10+ years. In fact, they made our amazing wedding cake, which is why for our anniversary we decided to splurge and get a banana cake shipped to us. First - the lead time on the delivery is a week. Don't expect to order it on a Monday and get it by the weekend. Second- the shipping packaging needs MAJOR improvement. The cake is not sent with any ice packs or instructions, other than a sticker that says "do not refrigerate." No guidelines for serving or storing, nada. (Also from a marketing POV a sticker or postcard would have been a cute touch, especially if this was a gift!) The cake is in no way safely packed, it's literally shrink wrapped and tossed in a box. There is no protective padding, or anything keeping your cake from being tossed, etc. While it doesn't affect taste, don't plan on getting something that is pretty that you can serve at a party. Overall, we are grateful to have a banana cake to celebrate our anniversary with, but not sure if we'd splurge on having it shipped. That said - swing by the bakery and get a fresh slice for the best experience!!

Very dry and stale. I've been here before 2 years ago and it was great. Tried it again and it was terribly stale.

Solid cupcakes and a good spot for a quick sweet fix. A little pricey, but the banana cake is worth it.

Okay I was cracking up about my experience here because I literally asked the dumbest question to…read morethe guy working but he was so nice and explained the answer to me until I understood! So fun fact they are now advertising Banana Pudding Hot Chocolate and it is NOT actual hot chocolate but banana pudding made to taste like hot chocolate. Why I got so confused? I don't know! Maybe I have been watching too many videos about Tyra Banks Hot Ice Cream. Either way I appreciate the guys patience and kindness when explaining it to me twice especially because I did not end up ordering that at all (though it sounds interesting) but I did get the regular actual hot chocolate and it was amazing! It tasted like melted marshmallows were in it! Perfect for a cold winter day. In addition we got to the humming bird cake, a cupcake, and the regular banana pudding. My husband had never been here before so you know we had to get the banana pudding, it's their claim to fame. And it is decent. Growing up in North Carolina banana pudding is taken very seriously and is literally at every gathering. Would this be a contender for the cookout? Sure! I have no complaints about. The other baked items were delicious as well. The store is cute unfortunately this location has no indoor seating but plenty of outdoor. It was like negative degrees when we went so we definitely did not sit outside. All and all it's a cute bakery/ sweets shop. There are many locations through out the city. I've been to others and it is consistent. It's definitely not a bad dessert spot to try.

Let me start with the positives, because there were some. Daniel was excellent--polite, attentive,…read moreand gave solid customer service. Credit where it's due. Now for the madness. Another employee, Kirk--an older gentleman who looked completely out of place--approached and coughed directly over the slice of cake that had just been cut for me. Yes. Over it. At that moment, I honestly wondered if it was intentional. A young woman nearby immediately caught my reaction and went to the back to replace the slice. She handled the situation professionally and deserves recognition. Unfortunately, the chaos continued. Kirk later made me a hot cocoa, and when I went to drink it, it spilled on me because the lid wasn't secured properly. At that point, I stopped believing in coincidences. And the cake? The German chocolate cake was terrible--dry AF and nothing like the Grand Central location. Not even remotely close. Between the coughing, the spill, and the subpar cake, this visit was uncomfortable, messy, and disappointing. Magnolia should seriously reconsider who they put on the floor and retrain accordingly--because this location is not living up to the brand. But honestly, I believe the 2 guys had to be the owners. I love a good watch but rolex's while serving Desserts is WILD

While I'm not the biggest cupcake fan, they have a nice selection of cakes, bars, and other things for pretty reasonable prices, especially in Midtown. The staff are also friendly. The most recent time, I got a Ube Buttercake Bar for $4.25, or something very similar. As per the name, it is made with ube, or purple yam, and it has a slight purplish hue. It was just a bit rich, had a soft texture inside, and had a very mild ube flavor with a bit of vanilla. The dessert was decent, but not strong enough of a ube flavor for me to buy it again. Much better was the Brookie I got the first time for $4.50 or so, listed as a blend of their Ooey Gooey Chocolate Chip Cookie Bar and Fudge Brownie. I was happy that the chocolate chip part was dark chocolate, and it wasn't overly sweet. Otherwise, it had a nice mix of textures, with some soft and crunchier parts. I liked it a lot more. The prices here are decent enough, and the quality isn't that bad. It's not a place I would go out of my way to go to, but it's nice to be nearby if I want to pick up a snack or something similar. I would probably try a slice of cake, or another bar such as their lemon or dream, next time.

I've been a customer of Buttercup for many years, which is why this experience was so…read moredisappointing. A recent order had clear issues that should never have happened, and the way it was handled afterward made it worse. I reached out directly to give them a chance to address it and never received any response. Seeing similar complaints in other reviews makes it obvious this isn't a one-off and they just don't care. It's really sad to see a business operate this way. After many years as a customer, I'll now have to take my business elsewhere.
