Decided to just do some BBQ research in Owasso.... so today I headed to Billy Sim's BBQ for lunch. I ordered the 2 meat dinner with pulled pork and bologna, beans and potato salad, water to drink. Ordering is simple and not at all confusing. Read from a simple menu, place your order and get in the line to the cash register. Honestly the dude behind the counter was less than congenial, but it didn't impact my lunch or my review. Food was ready soon enough, given the 5 people ahead of me, so I count that as speedy enough. Food, in tasting order.... The toast.... definitely not the star of the plate. Texas toast instead of regular sliced, so it was more dense and chewy, and only toasted on one side. Who does that? And it wasn't hot or fresh. You could tell it'd been toasted and held for a while. But, you don't go to a BBQ joint for the toast, so that is what it is. The beans.... BS does what they call 'cowboy beans', and they're good, if not a little one-note. Basically they were canned pork and beans with some meat thrown in and a splash or two of BBQ sauce. I doubt they'd seen the inside of a smoker. They were fine, but they could have been oh so much more with just a little time and effort. The potato salad.... tender, creamy and packing a subtle but noticeable tang. I wouldn't call it outstanding, but it was a definite addition to the plate. The pulled pork... while having a moderate smoky flavor, it was also dry, lacking any of that fatty, juicy mouth feel that a good pulled pork should have. And, it got cold really quickly, so I suspect their holding process needs to be tweaked. You can hold pulled pork for a good long time without it drying out if you make the effort. The few bits of bark I got were outstanding, they were just few and far between. The bologna... sliced sandwich thin, there were at least 2 slices. It was pretty well done.... good taste, texture and mouth feel. I felt a little miffed at how thin it was sliced, but I readily admit that's just me. When I do it at home, it's sliced nearly 1/2" thick so you get a good bite. Again, not a detraction here, just an observation. The meats are 1/4lb each, clearly stated when you order, so you know what you're getting. Personally, I think the portions were a bit light for the money, but I don't run a restaurant and I'm not privy to BS's P&L statements, so that will just remain an opinion and nothing more. Cost ran to $19.51 for lunch, which is about a buck more than OJ's, but I also got a tad more food and it was a whole lot better, so I think value wise, BS nosed out a win on that score. read more

As a Celiac, I miss eating meat-heavy meals at restaurants, due to the fact so many restaurants put gluten-containing marinades, seasonings and sauces on their foods. This past weekend, I was in Oklahoma and stopped by Billy Sims BBQ with my family. This is an order-at-the-counter place with self-serve drinks. I told the guy who took my order that I am celiac and he instinctively grabbed a piece of bread to put in the toaster, caught himself and asked me if I wanted him to change gloves. He and the manager told me that their potato salad, their meats and their sauces are gluten-free! Aside from their $5.99 sandwich and drink deal which is an amazing value but not gluten-free (my husband ordered it for himself) we got a few items to share with family. For $21.99 we got a 3 meat plate which came with 2 sides, pickles, peppers, onions and a slice of bread (obviously I didn't get bread.) I chose the polish sausage, sliced brisket and pulled pork along with double potato salad. My other family members ordered the $12.99 smothered baked potato (jacket potato) that comes with butter, sour cream, cheese, chives, meat, sauce. They wanted to split it so the potato pictured is only half of the potato! It's huge! This is a casual restaurant chain owned by a former local footballer, and there are locations in Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Wisconsin and Michigan in the USA. Little late getting around to this, but just recently had lunch at Billy Sims Barbecue with the wife. Really enjoyed the food so much that we decided to look into catering for Neighbor's kid's graduation. Sat down with manager I believe his name was Martin dark hair glasses really nice guy. He sat down with us asked questions about how many people and what we would like to serve. He made some suggestions and made it really easy for us to decide for our friends. Thanks for sitting down with us at lunch a couple weeks ago we know you were busy, and we asked a bunch of questions but we appreciate you taking the time to explain everything.. had just enough food for the graduation everyone enjoyed the food. I am not sure what happened to this place. I recently ordered beans and slaw for a big party, and the entire experience was frustrating and disappointing. The employees are not trained for handling catering orders. Also, neither they ( nor the manager) have any idea what the volumetric serving size (e.g., 1/2 cup) is or how many servings are in a pan. Isn't this standard bbq protocol?! It took me way too long to understand how much I would be getting for 45 people. As I suspected, they way oversold me. Then, I picked up the beans the day of the party, and they were a huge disappointment!!! Despite ordering the exact same thing 3 years ago for a party, these tasted nothing like them. They used to have lots of meat in them, but now they just taste like regular beans. And they are expensive. I called the manager to inquire after the party, and was told they had cut back because of costs. I wish I would have known that. The party goers were also disappointed vs what they had had before. I won't order them again. I thought the manager might try to keep my business after I shared with him my disappointment, but he didn't seem to really care. I love their chopped brisket dinner but it is so expensive. It is $20 plus tax with a drink. Their chopped brisket really beats Rib Crib's. Service is friendly and fast. Will definitely go back. This is my favorite BBQ place in the whole Tulsa Area. read more

We went here one hour before they closed to gab dinner. They had a staff of 5 guys looks like it. We were making an order for to go. We were quickly greeted upon entering the door and they started to quickly make their way to start our order. Three guys assisted us buy preparing the meat, one made up the sides and the last one prepared the ticket. From the looks of the restaurant they started to do their closing duties and everything was cleaned or Im the process. They all wore mask and gloves while on site. They tables were also spaced out for social distances purposes also. The food was fresh which for them to be closing one hour most places would serve you left overs. As soon as you hit the door you get a bbq smell. We ordered 2 running backs, a beef/chopped pork sandwich and a Hiesman. We will be returning. read more

Their food is really good however we have noticed over the last year that their prices have gotten higher and their portions smaller. It used to be our go to lunch place and now it's entirely too expensive for what you get. If their prices and portions had not changed I would have given 5 stars in a heartbeat! read more

I always get consistently great food from Billy Sims in Owasso. Try the pulled pork or bologna and baked beans.

This is essentially the barbecue equivalent of McDonald's. Fast food, mediocre service, cafeteria style. Not only is the sauce obviously bottled, but the entire fast food experience is priced at a casual dining experience price point. By far my least favorite place to attempt to eat barbecue in Tulsa. Do yourself a favor and skip this chain and try a local barbecue joint for an authentic experience. I recommend burn co. read more

This was our first visit. Awful service. To go order was missing lots of items. Luckily I checked before we left. When I asked for sauce I was told sure and then they just looked at me so I had to reach over the glass wall and grab it myself. Just awful service! Will not be going back. Dear #20, I was disappointed by this restaurant let me tell you why. First when I have BBQ I like my okra and I was not told you did not have fried food. I asked for corn on the cob and was given the excuse that you had run out and it was the first time you had run out in 26 years. By this time I was ready to hit the door but I carried on because my father was hungry. When I got my brisket it was ok for being Luke warm! But the lat straw was the hot link. If I wanted a stuffed jalapeño and cheddar hot dog I can get that at any meat market. I had to smother it in hot BBQ sauce to get any heat out of it! The Hot BBQ sauce was good. I looked at my plate and no pickle! Mr. Simm's I'm sorry to say that I will not be back to your store again! I will take my buisness back to rib crib where I can get what I order and want. This is a great little bbq spot. We've stopped here a few times now for lunch. I was a little weary originally due to the yelp rating they had but there's nothing to fear here. I was in town visiting family, I'm from California so any time I wonder this far east and south I have to go to a BBQ place since what we have in CA is far from good BBQ. We went here because it was close and recommended by neighbors, and let me tell you I was not disappointed. The ribs were fall of the bone amazing, the brisket was juicy and tender, and the heisman was just what the men in my group were looking for it had it all. I know BBQ, I slow smoke myself so unlike others that have rated Billy Sims for what's not on the menu. What's up with that? I don't give ratings to BBQ joints in Mississippi for not having a regional choice on the menu like Oklahoma's smoked bologna on their menu. I rate what's on the plate in front of me, the service, price and cleanliness of the facility. I give Billy Simms a 5 for being a quick stop and eat basic diner type atmosphere where you can take a quick break from the big screen at home, have good food and still keep up with your team in the mean time. Pay in cash. My spouse and I have both had our credit cards numbers stolen and sold at the same time. The ONLY thing we had in common on our credit cards was this place. The Schooner salad is excellent, the lettuce is fresh and crisp and the tomatoes taste like vine ripened tomatoes. The brisket is the best I have tasted in a BBQ restaurant, moist and tasty! I dine here often and can honestly say that it's one of my favorite places for lunch! read more
