I typically don't consider good barbecue a fine dining experience so I don't look for chandeliers and linen napkins. Billy Sims (as in the Heisman winner) is everything I would expect a good barbecue joint to look (basic and clean) because it's all about how it smells (very good) when you walk in! This is an order at the counter and take it to your table restaurant. We were pleasantly greeted and had our order taken immediately. Nice selection of sides, however, I loved the side of the baked potato salad. Several items posted on the menu are noted as award-winning. We tried both the ribs and the brisket. I'd have to say that the ribs were probably some of the best we have ever tried. The brisket was good however probably a little too lean to be five star worthy. Solid barbecue sauces, however they could benefit with one that's got a little bit more heat. Fountain drinks, no alcohol, but homemade desserts available if you still have room. Pricing is on par with market value. Dedicated parking lot makes for easy access. This location has a catering van and is ready for any party! read more

When my brother picked me up from the airport I saw a Billy Sims BBQ in Andover, Kansas. I asked him if it was related to the great Detroit Lions running back Billy Sims back in the day. He didn't know so I googled it and it was. It's a BBQ chain in started in Tulsa, Oklahoma with his business partner and there are over 50 locations in about 6 states. Of course you know me I had to check it out. Got the 2 meat combo- pulled pork and hot sausage with toast, Mac and cheese and potato salad. The food was good and the sauces (hickory and also original BBQ) we nice. They had a hotter sauce but I didn't try it. Them some good eats right here. Wish they had more Billy Sims decor with the Detroit Lions though. That was my only gripe. read more

After living in the area since this placed opened, I had yet to try it. My curiosity got the best of me so I stopped in. The parking lot is usually empty, which has always scared me off. Inside, it was comfortable, nothing spectacular but clean. Smelled like heaven. I tried the turkey and the hot links, expecting to be underwhelmed by both. BUT..... The turkey was fantastic, and I was surprised to see the hot links had a little cheese in them. The sauce was great as well. Now, the turkey did just come off the pit, so it was super juicy. A little salty, but I loved it. $22 for a pound of meat, I felt it was a good value and tasted great. That all being said, I still see so many bad reviews, so not sure what the issue is. I feel like they need to update the exterior and get some buzz going on. I hate to see them close, but if they are truly using store bought sides, that's a problem. "Worth the drive," says my spouse. We live close to downtown and drive out Andover way for another stop, and Billy Sims for lunch. We shared a half rack of ribs with 2 sides...coleslaw and Billly's beans. The ribs had good taste and fell off the bone The choice of sauce was acceptable, but really not needed. Now mind you, we lived in Houston for 30+ years and ate mucho barbecue. Billy Sims is right up there. Service was friendly, both on entry and exit. We shared the Texas comparison and the crew took it like champs! I admit I had to Google Billy Sims, and,after learning he was an NFL running back, it became evident that is what football players do after leaving the game ... put your name on a restaurant. Ha. The Kabasa was cold and tasteless. The mac & cheese was called. I brought it up and I saw them pouring the mac & cheese out of a bag into a steamer. Potato salad was certainly store-bought. My wife had a brisket salad and she said the brisket wasn't that great. The prices certainly weren't giving it away. Customer service was very poor. We ordered take out online which was a very simple process. When my husband arrived to get our food, they gave him somebody else's order. After he had gotten home the restaurant called and asked that we bring the food back. Luckily we do not live too far, he returned the food and headed back home. When he got back home we realized we were now missing part of our order so he had to go back to the store for a third time. The food was not worth three trips. I had baked beans, green beans and hubby had Mac and cheese with corn in the cob, which were all delicious. The fall down was on the ribs. The staff was very friendly even taking the time to show and let taste test a customer that had exceedingly picky tastes. I've reviewed Billy Sims Barbecue before, but I just have to share my latest experience. Since I'm on a keto diet, I am eating low carbs and high fats. Today I got the Heisman sandwich minus the bread, but instead of the smoked bologna I opted for the smoked pork belly as per the owners suggestion. Because I cannot eat the barbecue sauce I had them sprinkle extra rub on the meat. Here's how it stacked up - pork belly, hot link, and pulled pork on top. Absolutely fantastic! Almost left with being given both the sides that come with this meal. Had to ask two of their employees to change their gloves before preparing my food since they went to the store room to get supplies and didn't change them. We have been 3 or 4 times since they opened. All but one time was for the all you can eat rib nights (Tuesday's). Food has been pretty good every time. Try the smoked Bologna and pulled pork, good stuff. As with all BBQ places these days it is pricey, especially for a big family. read more

Wanted to try BS and here is the result. The sticker shock for two meals hitting almost 40$ started me off with a bad taste in my mouth. I thought food was good but probably a bit pricey. Didn't like their beans but they do have good sauce. If your willing to throw down about 25% more than you should then give it a try. Don't however try to take a group here for lunch, my spouse tried to call and get a reservation for a group of 8 for a business meeting and the manager on duty told her they don't accommodate groups during lunch unless they wanted to walk in at their own risk. read more

I've tried the food here a few times, it just keeps getting worse. The brisket has always been dry and lacking of flavor, the baked beans are pretty lame. It seems that they put meat from the pervious service night in the beans. The pulled pork is ok, but it too is dry and lacking flavor. The hot link is really the only thing I would eat again, they have flavor always seem to be cooked well and taste great. For the price of the food here I would expect the quality to be much better.
