Julius Rib Cage, formerly Julius Rib Cage II before JRC The First decided it couldn't hack it up on 13th and Oliver in what I presume is the space now occupied by Froggar's, shares a similarly nice flavor but dry pork. I tried it, along with the sausage and turkey. Sausages are never the problem, and this was on par with the others I've had in Wichita. The turkey had a nice smoky flavor, but it had the same kind of processed, suspiciously smooth texture that you find in lunch meat. Admittedly, I don't go for the smoked turkey very often, but I'm pretty sure that is not what results from taking a fresh turkey and throwing it in the smoker. If you've had the turkey at Two Brothers, it's similar. The entirety of my order received a liberal dusting of their rub. It's not something I've seen anywhere else in Wichita, but I did recently come across it at Johnny's BBQ in Kansas City. At the time, I liked the idea from a presentation standpoint, but I was unsure with regards to taste. Now, I can say with certainty that I don't like it, and the taste of the raw spices doesn't add anything to the flavor of the meat. I was disappointed that my three meat meal only came with one side, but the beans had big bits of pork in it that should be the standard for baked beans at barbecue restaurants. Julius Rib Cage reminded me of several other barbecue restaurants at which I've eaten in the past few months, but unfortunately none of those memories were very fond. A good choice if you're on the southwest side of town, I guess.

Now they know good BBQ! For $7 you get a sandwich packed with meat of your choice and the sides are awesome. Best beef brisket in Wichita!

Juicy fresh brisket!

Absolutely love this place! The food is delicious and the owner is raw but honest. He does this cause its his passion and it certainly shows in the food. We eat here a few times a month and will continue to !

Variety Platter

The owner was very nice and accommodating. He recommended that we get the variety platter for $15.99 since it was our first time visiting. Very glad we followed his advise!! The food as a whole was amazing. I am very used to BBQ from Kansas City so I am very picky!! The Ribs in my opinion were the best. Everything was slow smoked and had a very rich flavor to it. The only two complaints I do have are that the food does not come with wet naps...not a huge deal but it is BBQ. the second being the turkey. That was the one meat I was not a fan of due to its almost gelatin like texture. So far this is my favorite BBQ place in Wichita and we will definitely be returning! If you haven't checked it out and your in the mood stop in by, you won't regret it.

From KC this place has great ribs. Juicy, tender with a great smoke flavor. Good sauce. Very similar to Bobby Bell's BBQ in Gladstone MO.

A Wichita tradition. Reasonably priced excellent barbecue smoked on premises. A jewel of the south side.

The flavorful and tender meat doesn't need the sauce, hot or mild, that is served on the side.

Artichoke Sandwich Bar

Love a dive bar with some ambiance, history, and bar fare, so I was very excited when a colleague…read moresuggested the Artichoke for a quick sandwich and a beer for lunch while in Wichita for a conference. When we walked in, immediately we got seated (it was lunch on a Saturday)--got us a nice little booth with some green lit ambiance. The server checked on us to get our drinks quickly and then returned to take our order--definitely did an awesome job and thanks to the staff for all their work. Other reviews mentioned that the food wasn't necessarily the best or made in house--I can't speak to that, but I will say that the sandwich and potato salad hit the spot for me. This was exactly what I was looking for as a quick bite! I got the Famous #8 with potato salad as a side, and I ate that all up. They also had some domestic and local beers on draft, so I got an El Dorado company brew, and it hit the spot. The general Irish vibe was great, and if I get back to Wichita, I'll definitely be planning to hit up the Artichoke!

Food: 2/5 The food looked good but was basic bar fare for sure. Nothing great and in a sea of bars…read morewhere the kitchens make their own dressing, this place does not, at least not the blue cheese. The soup is also not homemade, but it was good and was clearly from elsewhere. My sandwich was not enjoyable. As BLTs go, it was difficult to eat; the shredded lettuce was a fail, fallout everywhere, and not sure what kind of mayo they used but the flavor was not what I was expecting at all. The salad was sad for the up charge and similarly difficult to eat. My husband's sandwich was better, their signature number 8, but nothing to TikTok about. Service: 4/5 Good but not that friendly compared to the vibes the bar was giving. There was a disconnect somewhere. Ambiance: 3/5 The music started out too loud for how dead the bar was. Literally, it was us and about 6 other people but the live music was extremely loud. The singers were clearly professionals but they set themselves up for a fuller bar and were a little louder than the space required with that few people. I get that live music is loud and they eventually adjusted but initially it was jarring. They were good, but the lead singer was louder than her accompanying singer/ guitarist. I felt sad that they didn't get the chance to mix themselves better at the outset. Overall, this place should cut down their menu to items that are their best and probably have their live singers mix taking into account the number of patrons. I would probably come back but not as my first choice.

The dressing wasn't very creamy, the dressing needed more Parmesan cheese in it. I think they need to change the dressing recipe. The dressing didn't have much flavor unfortunately. On a positive note, I had never had ceviche and I asked if I could sample it and the kind clerk gave me a huge sample. It wasn't bad either just no flavor other than the jalapeno. Maybe some garlic would spice it up? but I don't know if ceviche typically has garlic. Anywho I really like the restaurant. They have a huge menu. I think I prefer their breakfast menu.

They have plenty of breakfast and lunch options. I ordered a Wichita club and a 5 pc BBQ chicken wings. The sandwich was good, just not enough mayo, which was ok because they have extra condiments on each table. They give you some sauce on the side that's similar to 1000 island dressing so I used that also and it turned out pretty tasty. It's a pretty big sandwich (3 big slices of sourdough bread) but could have used more lettuce . The meat was good and very thinly sliced. I didn't have room to eat the chicken wings there so I took them home. They look delicious and are covered in plenty of sauce. Good sized wings and they have other flavors also. Service was quick, friendly and easy. The place was also very clean with plenty of seating and tables.
