Recent visit. Bought a jumbo pepperoni pizza. It was piping hot and sliced for 6 so bigger pieces. Just the right amount of everything . The dough was perfection light and not too thick. The sauce , cheese and pepperoni were perfectly cooked. I have been a customer for a long time and I can always count on it being the best pizza in Maine. The staff are great and it's a short wait. There are benches to sit on but fill up quickly during tourist season. There is a reason it has been in business over 70 years. Definitely best place in OOB for pizza. Not as good as Rocco's but very delish and I like that they have real cheese available to add to the pie slices. The service is decent and the area is pretty busy. Overall they turn customers and slices pretty quickly. Every time I go to OOB I'll stop at Rocco's first but definitely Bill's next. No comment on the atmosphere as there's no inside dining. Oh boy!! So many pizza joints in one spot I don't know what to do except try them all!! Well Bills was the first!! To compare I stuck with good ol pepperoni for all my tastings. Very similar to the Greek pizza I grow up with. Thick an fluffy crust with no crispy or crunch to it, for me it has to. The sauce is good, seasoned well and no greasy cheap cheese. Listen for this area -- we haven't across better (yet). Pros: 1.) Fast and Fresh (we intentionality ordered something that wasn't sitting out already made after reading some of the complaints). 2.) For the area and time of year, reasonably priced. 3.) We LOATHE New England pizza; not convinced it should be allowed to even be called pizza. It's the sorriest excuse we've experienced across the nation. So much so we just don't order any unless we're in NY. So Bills was a pleasant surprise. 4.) Their staff was pleasant, which is also a nicety, given we've had some challenging experiences with the general lack of good service up here. Cons: I really can't come up with any. Bill's is fine. It's right by the pier or whatever. You have to fight the crowds to get in line, etc. But it's an institution, so you go because you're in OOB and you want pizza and that's where your family's been going forever, so you're sure gonna head up there, too, even if it'll take you forever to get there because traffic is so heavy. And then despite the fact that the pieces are huge, you'll eat multiple because the crust is thin, but then you may kind of regret it because whoa was that greasy. I vacation at OOB every summer and I knew that I part of the experience is eating pizza from BIll's or Lisa. I went over at 9 PM on August 24 There was a crowd waiting to get pizza from Lisa's so I bought a slice from Bill's. It was flat, cold and stiff. The next day I figured I would return and tell the girl that the pizza was bad. I spotted the same girl. A pretty girl with brown hair. Now, they do not give a receipt, so she just had to take my word for it. I said to myself, the slice of pizza probably costs them 10 cents and they received $3.50 for a slice. I will describe the pizza that they sold me the other day. Maybe she will be nice to a customer. True, Bill's will loose a few cents by giving me a new slice, but after all, the slice they served the day before was not something they should be proud of and they could try to maintain their reputation But, the attractive girl turned down my request. I've been going to Bills since the 1960s and love it. I will admit that I no longer go faithfully ever year when I'm in OOB, but the last time I ate there it was as good as I remembered decades ago. As far as pizza in the OOB Maine area goes, Bills is in the top five for me. If I were to compare it to NY pizzas, where I'm from, then it would probably drop to within the top 10-15, but either way it's still a great pie. The prices are not the greatest, but then again this is a resort area! REALLY, it's up to you!! Some people's favourite pizza is bottom of the barrel for another. Whenever we vacation here, it's essential to hit Bill's and Pier Fries for pizza and French fries. The pizza here is light and not very filling, but it's tasty and is very welcome after a day on the beach. I've had better pizza, but it's nice to know that you can walk up to the register, order two or three pies, and within a minute you're off. Parking is a problem here and anywhere on the strip in Old Orchard, but it is what it is. read more
