I thought it was a U-joint going south. Didn't really know any mechanics in the area. Asked around and found H&C Garage. Called and spoke to Zach. Very friendly and helpful. He told me to bring the truck over. I limped to his shop knowing it was going to be bad. Turns out the folks that changed my tires last Thursday didn't tighten the lugs with a torque wrench. Left from was about to fall off. Zach re- tightened everything by hand and got me rolling again in minutes. Zach, thank you and your team for saving this Old Sailors life. Highly recommended

It was a Saturday and VIP was the only repair shop that had a mechanic on duty (this after checking a bunch of other places in Bath to no avail). It was about 10:30am and of course they were booked for the day with only one mechanic on duty but said we could leave it and they'd try to take a look. Richard, the store manager, said they might not get to it until Sunday or Monday. We were scheduled to leave Sunday morning and let them know but their Sunday was also booked up. We left with our fingers crossed as we had to be back home Sunday night for work on Monday in the Boston area. We checked back mid afternoon but they hadn't been able to look it over yet and then checked back around 5 (we'd been told the mechanic was scheduled to go off duty around 4). We got there and the car was in the garage with Richard and Ivan the mechanic talking. They figured out the problem and repaired it! We were able to get the car Saturday and leave on time Sunday. We talked more with Ivan and Richard and they were so helpful, explaining what was wrong and answering questions (and showing us the bad spark plug). They really saved us by squeezing us in and we have only good things to say about the team at this location!

I need new tires for my truck so I thought I would see if Bath was still good. They are NOT. I set up an appointment for today. The scheduler said he would order the tires and make sure they were in before the scheduled appointment. I got there today and no tires. Not late, not back ordered just NEVER ordered. No one called to let me know so I wasted an hour and gas at these ridiculous prices just to get a shoulder shrug and a gee: it looks like they were not ordered. Do you want to reschedule? Nah; I'll go somewhere else

I stopped into this business on this past Tuesday (11-04-2025). I had been a loyal customer for…read moreclose to 40 years. However, I don't keep up much with businesses in Bath (my bad), so didn't know Cahill's had been sold back in April. The reason I stopped in was for someone to check the pressure in my tires, as my low tire pressure light came on when I left my home that morning. This is a fairly new car with 23K miles on it that I had bought in September. All four tires were brand new. Anyway, when I walked in I saw this dark haired woman sitting at the counter in the waiting room. I asked where Marty was and she said we are the new owners. So, I asked if someone could check the tire pressure on my tires (a three minute task) and she said the service people were all busy and she could make me an appt, for Thursday. I said that wasn't really acceptable, as air was leaking. I left and on the way to my car I saw two service people standing by the stacks of tires outside just shooting the breeze. Busy, my foot. If that had been the old crew, they would have been right on it, even Marty had done that in the past. So, I went to Bert's (yes, I still call it that) and the kid came out, checked all my tires and the back passenger one was done 6 pounds. Needless to say, I will not be going back to Cahill's.

My overall trust in them has been reinforced several times; that, along with fair prices, is a key reason for my loyalty. They had me tow it to a location 30 miles away, only for that mechanic to tell me it was in fact my brakes causing the noise. I requested the unnecessary tow be removed from the VIP bill. Manager refused, said her boss won't approve it, then got increasingly defensive. Received a call from her boss and he agreed, without argument, to reimburse me. So glad the Topsham mechanic wasn't available to work on my car at the time, or he would have torn it apart for no reason. AVOID THIS LOCATION.

That said, Autowerks charges a fair amount on labor and additional "Phantom" time did not appear on my bill. Give them a try.

Who wants to wait that long when you already know that you need the battery. Anyway....the man I dealt with kind of conveyed competent charm. Said the right things, etc. I only waited a reasonable amount of time, especially for drive-in service. And everything was fine until he gave me the bill told me how much the battery was going to set me back. It was an (almost) obscene amount, about 40% more than anyone else had quoted me (all the places that couldn't get me in). You see, I never asked (and shame on me for that) because everyone else had quoted the same general price. I mentioned that it seemed a little high, to which he replied that THAT is what it costs, and that was that. What *I* didn't/never told him was that my last job was running a small-ish chain of auto repair shops 14 years); literally! I had my thumb on the pulse of what others charged in the area, and I tried to NEVER make anyone feel like they got taken. I knew how good (or not) their techs were, and how they operated. That people trust MAS for whatever reason is fine, but my one experience was the only one they get. Maybe their service is so extraordinary that the price doesn't matter to many, but for a purchase of convenience that didn't take but a few minutes, they absolutely did NOT win me over.
