My Porsche Cayenne S overheated on 295 while taking my wife to the airport. Autowerks fit me into their busy schedule the next day and came up with a strategy to fix the coolant problem. Once done, they discovered an issue with the high pressure fuel pump and ordered a replacement part ($1600). The part arrived a few days later, but the night before it was to be installed, the mechanic who'd been working on it thought maybe it was just seated wrong, and didn't need to be replaced. So he figured out how to get it seated correctly, and saved me a least two grand! What a terrific garage! Throughout, Jessica at the desk kept me informed about the progress constantly, making intelligent suggestions along the way. I was on a short trip and a few days before I called to see if they could just look at the antifreeze, they got me in within two days. It ended being a crack in the antifreeze holding tank, and they noticed how bad my tires were. So glad they noticed that too! Now I can safely go on my short trip. These guys know their stuff! Had my 2016 Mini Cooper Clubman serviced in March of 2024, no problem with the oil & filters changed, they did rear break work for a sticker all very good. I had just installed 4 new tires and asked if they would do a 4 wheel alignment, they called me and told me the front tie rod adjustment bolts were stuck and would need to replace the entire assembly at a cost of $1300.00 I declined the service and brought the car to Palmer Spring Company in Portland ME. They reported having no problem with the tie rod adjustments and could see no evidence that anyone had attempted to adjust them. The alignment was a total cost of $175.00! I believe Autowerkes was padding the bill a little, I will not go back there for service again. read more

Voit is the Man! We had an ignition problem that we had taken to another "VW garage." When we got it back, every time we took the key out of the ignition, the horn went off. After trying to start it a few times, the key got stuck in the ignition and eventually broke off. We then decided to go to a professional and took it to Autowerkes. Now, our '70 Karmann Ghia convertible starts like a charm, runs like a dream, and gets a lot of attention on the highway. Let me start by saying I am not one to write a review either positive or negative. But Autowerkes gets 5 stars from me! My 21 year old Boxster had a major problem while on the way to Boothbay and we decided to stop in Freeport to access what was going on. Fortunately for us we just happened near Autowerks and when we pulled in they could not have been any more attentive. They diagnosed and fixed the problem and had the car ready as promised. They instilled such confidence and professionalism I had they make a repair that I had been putting off doing. And on top of that they even delivered the car to me!! Jason was so easy to work with while Mike also answered my many questions. I don't live in Maine but if I did they would be the ones to service my cars. And it doesn't hurt that the place is beautiful! read more

Stopped by Autowerkes to talk about a couple inconsistent issues with my BMW. They divulged a couple possibilities that might be wrong with the car and told me they would write up an estimate for these possibilities and come to a conclusion once they had the car in the shop. They told me they would reach out with a possible appointment time, a list, and an estimate of the work that might need to be performed. I never received a peep after walking out of their doors. I understand business' can be busy, but don't tell me you will reach out and then not reach out. Even if they said they are fully booked and couldn't take my car on at the time I would have been a little happier. I find it somewhat unprofessional that they told me they would do something, and simply put, didn't. That being said, I simply cannot comment on the quality of the work that they perform, but I only hear good things. read more

Have used this place for several years and have had no issues with their service. However, at my last visit I saw only one employee in the front offices wearing face masks, and no one in the back garage bays wearing masks. I asked if they had a mask policy and was told all public facing employees must wear masks (even though only one of them was) and the mechanics were not, because they work in a well ventilated area, 6 feet apart. They said they would make note of my complaint. I followed this with a letter to the management outlining my concerns, and stating I would not be returning there. I have heard nothing back, so it appears they are not interested in the well being of either their employees or their customers. I am deeply disappointed that so simple a health measure has become so politicized, and would encourage everyone to go elsewhere for their car repair needs. read more

This place is so awful. I had my winter tires switched out and when my car was returned it had a new vibration. I took it back three times and finally they said it needed a new arm and tie rods. kept the car for over 6 weeks. didn't date me and gave it back in worse shape than before plus charged me 1500.00. They also told me I needed a clutch and said it was 1800 and then said it was 3800 the next time. Do Not go here.also not wearing masks or sanitizing cars. read more

I brought my wife's VW in for a tune up and these guys helped diagnose the check engine light. They gladly allowed me to use a loaner car so I could travel to work while their work was being done. My only regret was I didn't bring my 2000 Z3 to Autowerkes sooner! In 2006 I took it to Bill Dodge BMW (FIRST MISTAKE!) who diagnosed a simple exhaust sensor malfunction. They wanted to charge me $1,500 to have it replaced. I decided against it and put it back in the garage, FOOLISHLY! (SECOND MISTAKE!) I move to Mass and the car remained garaged until Saturday. I finally smartened up and had it towed to Autowerkes. Jess called me first thing Monday morning to let me know that they had received the car and work had already begun. I had no idea what to expect what damage had been done to the car after sitting for so many years! She recommended we start with changing the oil and other fluids. I was called and emailed every step of the way. I have never had such great care or detail paid in any past client experience. All said and done: the total bill for my stupidity was $2,100; an absolute bargain! $900 was for tires that still looked good but unfortunately flattened over time. They fixed the original exhaust sensor malfunction, cleared an engine code, and replaced seat belt/airbag harness sensors. They had my car back to me by Wednesday (the tires took an overnight shipment!). Overall the best experience with any auto shop I have had to date! I would highly recommend dealing with Autowerkes! Top quality, honestly, friendly service at affordable prices! I couldn't be happier to have my car back on the road just in time for Spring. Returned to Autowerks for an oil change and inspection. I continue to be impressed with service. My vehicle was taken in promptly and I was advised it would be about an hour with a summary of what the service would cover. Important to me is the honesty of service performed. I have confidence in Autowerks that they will be upfront with maintenance of my 2010 Mercedes C. and not perform unnecessary work as well as forewarn me of any issues to expect as my car adds mileage. Autowerkes Maine is a top notch facility. I own older BMWs and they help keep them running as they should. Excellent service and support for my 1973 3.0 CSi, 1973 2002Tii and 1997 Dinan M3. On my 1973 3.0 CSi the Bosch starter failed after being replaced at another shop in North Carolina while at The Vintage, the largest vintage BMW show in the U.S. Autowerkes being a Certified Bosch Service Center, paid for the flatbed from Brunswick to Freeport and replaced the starter for free. Excellent staff everyone is courteous and pays attention to details. They are very attentive and explain the scope of work the car(s) require to live up to their high standards of excellence. A level of service which exceeds my expectations regularly. read more

Another great service experience with Autowerkes. My older SLK has developed a random habit of not starting, a known gremlin in this model for which online forums have no consensus on how to fix. Dealers throw parts at it without rhyme or reason. Mike, Jesse and Jason, on the other hand, took an old school approach, swapping relays around to see if they could find a failing one. They did - an $18 part. That has been my consistent experience with AW. As car people they use common sense and curiosity rather than your wallet as the first option to diagnose and repair problems. I like having allies rather than adversaries in keeping my cars on the road. Only hesitation in recommending them is if too many people discover how great they are I won't be able to get appointments! read more

Jason, Voit and the team at Autowerkes Maine worked diligently to figure out a starting issue with my 33 year old BMW L6, they also repaired a stuck window very quickly. They diagnosed the issue off of the little information I had and the car was in and out faster than any other repair shop it's been to. This place is the worse place I have ever dealt with. My son had hi Volvo towed in May. End of June Mike told my son the transmission was fixed but still had some electrical problems. My son please fix it all. We called off and on all summer. He called 4 days straight and left a message with no return call. Finally they responded in September and Mike said it would be going back in on Oct 4. I then called a few weeks after the 4th to see what was going on. They never put it back in on the 4th and Mike said he no intentions of working on it!!!! The I have called multiple times and spoke with Jason who said it was in the back lot behind other cars and needed to be jumped. I waited two weeks for a call it was out and ready. I called again yesterday still nothing the car still sitting dead!! He said it would be ready today Saturday!! I aid I would be up to get it..and they are not even open today. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. Now today his car 6 month later still can not be driven away!! Poor Business practice and ridiculous lip service!! I would recommend this place to my worst enemy. Recently had our mini in because it was running poorly. Charged me $108 to tighten the oil cap. They have a history if findings other things wrong that may or may not be necessarily wrong. Told me I needed a new drive belt approx. $350. The mini only has 50,000 miles on it. I said OK anyways. Paid the full bill for oil cap and belt. Turns out they did not replace the belt after all. I stopped payment until belt was actually replaced. Today they finally replaced the belt but held my car hostage for cash payment only. I will never go back. This place sucks! read more
