He told me to bring the truck over. I limped to his shop knowing it was going to be bad. Turns out the folks that changed my tires last Thursday didn't tighten the lugs with a torque wrench. I went to 6 different garages (not expecting them to do anything in the moment but advise me on the safest way to get it home. I was on the verge of a full on melt down when I decided to try one more garage before calling a tow truck. Luckily the next one I found on the map was Bill's garage. Brandon was incredibly helpful and professional and asked me to stop by so he could have a look. When I arrived Brandon came right out and ran diagnostics a few times and drive it around a bit to assess the situation. He felt like it was ok to drive it back which was a huge relief. It was a Saturday and VIP was the only repair shop that had a mechanic on duty (this after checking a bunch of other places in Bath to no avail). It was about 10:30am and of course they were booked for the day with only one mechanic on duty but said we could leave it and they'd try to take a look. Richard, the store manager, said they might not get to it until Sunday or Monday. We were scheduled to leave Sunday morning and let them know but their Sunday was also booked up. We left with our fingers crossed as we had to be back home Sunday night for work on Monday in the Boston area. We checked back mid afternoon but they hadn't been able to look it over yet and then checked back around 5 (we'd been told the mechanic was scheduled to go off duty around 4). We got there and the car was in the garage with Richard and Ivan the mechanic talking. They figured out the problem and repaired it! We were able to get the car Saturday and leave on time Sunday. We talked more with Ivan and Richard and they were so helpful, explaining what was wrong and answering questions (and showing us the bad spark plug). They really saved us by squeezing us in and we have only good things to say about the team at this location!

It was time for our 60,000 mile service. We would typically go to Evergreen Subaru, which tends to…read morebe convenient. However, a co-worker suggested I try a more rural location to save some money. The Evergreen price was a very large number (not outrageous in comparison, but a scary-high number either way.) I called Bath Subaru and was told that it was about $170 cheaper. I was surprised, but confirmed the miles, synthetic oil, and included spark plugs. I then waited for a good time to schedule. When that time came (about 2 weeks later), I scheduled our appointment. I again confirmed the mileage service (level 5), the oil, and sparkplugs, and was again given the same price, about $170 cheaper. Going to Bath involved an extra 1.5 hours of driving and my wife sitting in a waiting room for 3 hours, but we thought the savings was worth it. When my wife paid the bill, it was $117 higher than I was quoted. I called and spoke with service. The woman I worked with was reasonable, but couldn't vouch for incorrect information that I was given, as well as the service being completed and paid. I was upset by the difference in price, as the time and gas money wasn't worth the savings that I received. When I asked if anything could be done in the name of customer service, I was told that she would have to check with the owners. I later called back to apologize if I was worked up at the first call. She said she appreciated it, but there was no need. I would receive a call back when she had news. She called back and offered us a free service at our next mileage point. They would like to keep us as a customer, which I appreciated. While the experience didn't go exactly as planned, the vehicle does run well and I am pleased that they cared enough about me as a customer to try making things right. In other news, I'm told there is Wi-Fi in the waiting room and they keep pretty busy.

It was a great experience: convenience of a loaner, on-time service, honest review of service needed and what should be done soon. The difference being that the dealer seemed to upcharge on what is needed and what coud be done. Their overhead charges and labor costs were extreme as well. That said, Autowerks charges a fair amount on labor and additional "Phantom" time did not appear on my bill. Give them a try.

So glad the Topsham mechanic wasn't available to work on my car at the time, or he would have torn it apart for no reason. AVOID THIS LOCATION.
