We were in town visiting family when various check engine lights went on and the car started…read morerunning roughly. It was a Saturday and VIP was the only repair shop that had a mechanic on duty (this after checking a bunch of other places in Bath to no avail). It was about 10:30am and of course they were booked for the day with only one mechanic on duty but said we could leave it and they'd try to take a look. Richard, the store manager, said they might not get to it until Sunday or Monday. We were scheduled to leave Sunday morning and let them know but their Sunday was also booked up. We left with our fingers crossed as we had to be back home Sunday night for work on Monday in the Boston area. We checked back mid afternoon but they hadn't been able to look it over yet and then checked back around 5 (we'd been told the mechanic was scheduled to go off duty around 4). We got there and the car was in the garage with Richard and Ivan the mechanic talking. They figured out the problem and repaired it! We were able to get the car Saturday and leave on time Sunday. We talked more with Ivan and Richard and they were so helpful, explaining what was wrong and answering questions (and showing us the bad spark plug). They really saved us by squeezing us in and we have only good things to say about the team at this location!

Went to VIP in Bath where I used to get my vehicles worked on prior moving to Topsham. The…read moreTopsham location has been horrible and has messed up simple things like oil changes and tires. I need new tires for my truck so I thought I would see if Bath was still good. They are NOT. I set up an appointment for today. The scheduler said he would order the tires and make sure they were in before the scheduled appointment. I got there today and no tires. Not late, not back ordered just NEVER ordered. No one called to let me know so I wasted an hour and gas at these ridiculous prices just to get a shoulder shrug and a gee: it looks like they were not ordered. Do you want to reschedule? Nah; I'll go somewhere else

Had to Uber kids to school, call roadside assistance for jump. Was not told until back in person that the reason was THEY NEVER REPLACED THE BATTERY BECAUSE THEY DIDNT SEE IT ON THE PAPERWORK. This was the sole issue that had been discussed for 2 days prior. I'm still pleasant at this point; walk home. Receive call ACCUSING me of not giving them my keys; they strongly believe this because "I gave them the car running". I'm like duh, the battery's dead, that was a convenience TO YOU. At this point, I say "you already didn't render services upon payment in full and now you're telling me you lost my keys, why would I believe you?" I hung up, I'm on my way. On the way on my child's scooter, I get a VM, of course they found the keys. Pete(?) meets me outside, hands me keys, tries to show me "what happened". As I'm already getting in my car, he says "I don't appreciate you hollering at my guy". Well, I don't like the false security of being sent off for paid services not rendered and then getting accused of lying and the possible stress of lost keys on top! Wow! I never even asked for a refund. UNACCEPTABLE.

A busted head gasket really is a death wish for Subaru's, Matt the manager called me and let me know how much it was going to cost. I told them to go ahead and do the work, and they started. I spent around $5,000 for them to fix my car. Half way through the fixing process I got a call from one of the workers at VIP saying he needed to put a new "engine block" in my car, and that VIP didn't have those, but he had one on him, and that he would sell that to me for $600. Not knowing what to do, I went ahead and bought the engine block. My car was finally finished, and when I left my low oil light came on, wasn't sure what was going on so I called VIP, and went there for them to take a look. They told me there was no oil leaking. I got home, and to my dismay, there was no oil leaking, BECAUSE THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE CAR. I went back to them, and they lifted my car and told me the technician who sold me this "engine block" didn't remove the old filter, and there was a pin hole in it, letting the oil leak out like a faucet. When they fixed it, they told me I could have died. That experience scared me, but I still put my faith in VIP when I had some steering stuff going on, I went there and spoke with Matt, who told me that I needed new steering pump, and I asked him if I could wait until I actually have money to do that, and he said "you'll be stranded on the side of the road somewhere if you wait." So, I waited, and that was 2 years ago. My steering is fine. VIP has made me scared for my life, no business should do that. I also found out that they NEVER PUT MY AC BACK TOGETHER. So, I have no AC anymore, because of their ignorance. I've called the branch in Topsham about 6 times in the last 3 months, asking them if they've gotten the part in, just to be told that they would call me back, and they never call back! Not once! I will never step foot in this place again, and other people shouldn't either. To top it off, when I went to the Topsham branch and told them about the events that took place in the Brunswick one, one of the technicians said my case was a "famous" case, one of the most messed up projects that they've ever had. I've tried to get ahold of the owner, I have just left messages and never hot a return call. EDIT: 03/29/21 VIP in Topsham is awesome, they took care of me and helped me get my AC back, they really stepped up to the plate. Call Topsham VIP for anything!!

This last time I had to use a 5 foot pipe on a half-inch breaker bar to loosen them--heaven help me if I had to change a tire on the highway. Impact wrenches are for removal, but should never be used for tightening. They really should be torquing them to the proper specs and no more.
