This is a bicycle shop and bike repair shop. They have new bicycles in the front and accessories and a huge repair shop in the back. My kid's bicycle had a flat tire and since I had gone to one of the other bike shops in the neighborhood before and left unsatisfied, I searched Yelp and found this one. Even though there weren't any reviews, I decided to give it a shot. I walked in and was greeted right away by a friendly young man who looked at my son's bike and said it would be ready in half an hour. I came back 30 minutes later, and sure enough the bike was ready to go. I was impressed with the place and the friendliness. I asked him how long the store had been there (since I assumed it had recently opened, having never noticed it before). He said the store had been there since 1929! read more

THEY SELL YOU USED PARTS! I bought a handlebar recently and it had scratches. It didn't even have packaging! The guy just pulled one from a pile of random bars! It had old ripped and stained brakes which he removed. I PAID 40$ FOR THAT SHET! It didn't even have a brand. It was just those cheap 20$ bars from amazon! YOU DO THE DECISION! ISN'T IT A SCAM? This shop is a joke. The guys behind the counter are super rude. They will make you feel like you are not wanted in their shop. And then they try to rip you off. I mean there are certain things that you expect from any establishment. Politeness is one of them. You may have an undecided customer. Forcing him to go for your services is not how you run a business. Anyway, TLDR - just stay away from this place. There are many better locations with better service providers. read more

Incompetent owner/mechanic or Scammer will try to up sell you if you look young, first time I went he told me I needed to pay a $10 fee If I was paying with a card then said just kidding when I said no, also sold me wrong inner tube when I had brought the wheel in the get the right one and then proceeded to tell me it was fine to use which isnt, and last time I went he told me I had to get something expensive done to the bike when It just needed adjusting. read more

My wife and I stopped by yesterday to get her a bike seat adjustment. The two individuals there were very helpful and speedy. They made some suggestions and made the adjustment to my wife's seat. I just got my bike repaired here and have nothing but great things to say! Service was quick and it rides like a dream. Pro tip: they also have a cool little section with RC cars and quadcopters and other interesting finds. I would recommend checking it out if in the area... WASTE OF TIME. Don't give these people your money. They don't deserve it. This is the only bike shop I've ever gone into in NYC that won't let customers test ride the bikes. Why would you spend 100's of dollars on a bike that you can't test ride first? If you live in Queens and want to buy a bike, don't waste your time at this shop. Go to Bicycle Repairman or Tony's Bicycles. At either of those nearby shops you'll be able to test every bike in the store if you want to do it. I've tried at least a half dozen bikes at both of those shops and the customer service is fantastic. read more

Worst bike shop ever. I got a flat tire and fixed the rear tire there. I paid $14. After two hours, my rear tire became flat. He did not fix! So, I came back to the bike shop for complaining. He told me that he fixed the front tire. He tried to charge additional money. I'm 200% sure it was the rear tire. So, I said "I never ever buy anything here." and left. He is a latino guy. The day I went to the shop, there were 3 people who got a flat tire on the same day and same time in the shop. This is very unusual. People all got the same U-shape nails. He was saying "the train construction drops the U-shape nails. So, probably, I'll get many flat tire people today." It's very weird. Hope the guy don't spread U-shape nails neighborhood for getting customers. Just go to a different bike shop if you get a flat tire. Or, get a tire at sports authority, then ask a car shop to change if you don't have tools. Spots Authority is not far from the shop and a car tire shop charge $10 or do for free. Tire is usually about $5. One good thing. At first, I thought the latino guy tried to deceive because English is my second language. I totally understand, but have strong accent. After I read other people's review today, I got know. He tries to deceive all to get money! read more

I had a grinding noise in my crank and I brought it in for them to look at. The mechanic said my crank was loose and for $20 they would tighten it. While he was tightening it he laughed and said "What if I got it wrong and it still squeaks." Yup, still did. Then he had the temerity to ask for payment, but said he would settle for $15. He was kind enough to say if I wanted to drop my bike off the next day (it was closing time) he would continue to "trouble shoot" the problem, but it would continue to cost me until he figured it out. read more

I went in for some accessories the other day and I left satisfied.They were not pushy in trying to make a sale and answered All of my questions. Which I was happy about. So in that case... Unlike most bike shops in NYC where I've encountered condescending and arrogant hipsters, this place actually treats me with respect. They understand they're the experts and is the reason we need their service. I've had two types of services done, both fast and cheap. I ordered a bike online that came 90% assembled. They completed the assembly in three hours and it only cost $50. I'm confused as to how others are saying their services are overpriced when they literally assembled a bike for me for only $50. Not to mention, they did a phenomenal job. I've yet to have an issue with it, and this was done about a year and a half ago. The other service was replacing a tube when I got a flat. Service was completed in twenty minutes and only cost $15. People! Please keep in mind that you're paying for parts AND labor. $15 is a perfectly reasonable price for a tube change. Friendly and knowledgable staff with quick and inexpensive service. I'm certainly a fan. read more

They need to change their business hour time or put up a sign on their door. Yelp said it opens at 11-4 on Sunday's but ended up waiting for an hour it finally opened at 12pm. I was not the only one waiting there were four other people. I had to change my brakes and ended up getting charged up to 57$. I brought my bike in for a tuneup, and to get my tires and inner tubes replaced because they were worn out. Staff quoted me exact prices for the tuneup and parts. I picked up the bike today and was very happy with everything. Clear honest communication and solid work from start to finish. No surprises, no drama, prices for everything just as quoted. The derailleurs are perfectly aligned, the brakes are beautifully tuned, and everything is just right. I'll be coming back to Bill's. read more

Stopped by this morning before they were officially open with a flat (of course... the one day I'm wearing a suit coat and didn't bring my tools, I rode over a cap nail). Fixed in no time. Three days ago, my wife and I had a road trip planned. Prior to our departure, I decided to "fix" a minor cosmetic issue on my son's car seat. My attempt at a fix failed miserably and resulted in me pulling one of the safety straps inside the interior of the car seat and totally out of reach of me and any of my tools. Road trip at risk, I took the car seat to another bicycle shop on Roosevelt in a long shot attempt at getting the car seat back in working order. The proprietor refused to even look at it. So I walked down to Bill's Cyclery. It was my last shot. The man working behind the counter was awesome. He fixed it in less than a minute and charged me nothing. I know this is outside the realm of bikes, but he saved our road trip. I love this place. If I ever do have a bike (and/or a bike problem), I will be back. read more

I first went to Bill's about 6 months ago when last bike finally bit the dust. I was looking for a hybrid, since well you know, the roads are comparable to minefields in some areas and they were extremely helpful in choosing something that fit my needs. Went with a GT which you don't see as often in the states as Schwinn and Trek. This was my first legit bike and I absolutely love it. It was exactly what I needed and it was tuned, greased, and inspected prior to me riding out of the store. I have gone back a few times since to have some maintenance and adjustments but it is always a pleasure since I find the staff, Anthony in particular, to be very knowledgeable and friendly. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a solid bicycle, part and accessories, and routine maintenance. If you are looking for a shop that is willing to explain the difference between styles of bikes and various components rather than simply to sell you the most expensive one this is the place for you. this bike shop SUCKS , only gets 1 star since i can't give you NONE. first of all the customer service is terrible always trying their best to make u leave the shop in an instant. "oh you need air? sure here" tosses a big air hose like the ones used to air up car tires. no gauges? sure blow up your tire so youll have to buy another one. all of their prices from fixing a flat to put up a bike together is well over 200% of what you would pay at another shop . i love it how most of the people who rated this place a 4/5 stars talk so sweet sounds alot like they are doing these reviews themselves . read more

I went on Sunday to inflate my tires with air so I can ride my bicycle. I was all set in no time great! I left walked with the bicycle half a block and the front tire EXPLODED LOUD! Thankfully I wasn't riding it. People from the grocery store came out as they were worried what happen...it was that loud! They put too much air in my tires that's why the front tire exploded so I walked back to the store but they were closing at 4p.m. that day instead of 5p.m. I had to leave the bicycle so they can fix it. I went to pick up my bicycle the guy at the store dark hair black frame eyeglasses (He said his name is Tony) charged me $16 because they didn't adjust the tire correctly when they were inflating the tire & put too much air. Lesson learned nothing is free make sure that people do their job correctly & never go back to this bicycle shop! Oh and I forgot to mention that my entire bicycle was covered in black stains. read more

It looks like Bill's Cyclery removed my last review. To sum up: They didn't repair my bike. I was charged. They refused to pay damages. The original review on 10/29/2014: The customer service at this shop is awful. Do not come here for repair work. I am all in favor of supporting small shops but the prices at Bill's are unreasonable. Please research the cost of the equipment you need and take the train nearby to another bike shop to make the purchase. read more

My experience with this shop has always been positive. I live in Jackson Heights and have 6 or 7 bike shops within a one mile radius, and Bill's has consistently delivered the best service and price. The mechanic I've worked with there is Tony and I've always found him to be incredibly skilled and thorough. He does excellent work and doesn't miss the little details. The only reason I'm not giving the shop 5 stars is because he's often the only mechanic there and once in a while, I have to wait longer than I'd like to get my bike back -- this, I guess, is the downside to working with a single, excellent mechanic. I haven't made a large purchase at this shop yet, but for things like tires, repairs, and accessories, it's everything a privately owned neighborhood bike shop should be. read more

As a serious, competitive level bike rider, with several high-end bicycles, I have found that the owner/mechanic keeps all my bikes in top-notch condition. He is one of the few who I trust to work on my bikes. Not only does he maintain bicycles, he upgrades, modifies and is a really fine wheel builder, the truest test of a bike mechanic. He carries a line of quality children's bicycles as well as BMX road and mountain bikes. Even track bike riders will find the mechanic knowledgeable in their care and repair. read more

Had a bike serviced by them. The mechanic was an arrogant know-it- all. Which would be fine if he did and everything came out stellar. But it wasn't done right. I specifically asked him to measure something to spec, "yeah whatever" was essentially his response and he didn't even know how to use the tool. I was new to road biking so i didn't not knew much about the size measurements. But the guys here were very kind and helpful! they helped and informed me good on appropiate bike size fitting, and differences between other road bikes. They did not have the bike i wanted it was out of stock, but they ordered it for me. I revieved the bike within a week. now its been a few months iv been biking and its awsome! they also have tons of accesories. each time i go to the shop they have what am looking for! they also always make sure that my bike is on good condition and check the wheels if it need more air! Well recently i had a bad back tier and i was needed in to get a new one as i was asking in the bills bike shop it was for the cost of $25-$40 to get a new back tier and to fix it , it would have been a extra $20 for the replacement so i went up to 90 Street and since they do work right in front of you it was faster and cheaper it was to total cost of $25 to get myself a new tier, new inner tube, and also some clean up or greasing up my chain since it wasn't that well offed greediness. read more
