Buyer/user beware on this one. We recently sold our pool table on Craigslist. This is who the buyer hired to move the table. I'm not even out any money and I feel like I should warn people. This is a bit long, but well worth the read if you are considering these people to move your table.
There was a definite lack of professionalism. They were late. They claimed they would get the pool table out in 20 minutes (which is unrealistic to begin with), and they were here for at least an hour. They bicker like an old married couple, but not in the cute way, and they don't care who is listening.
They didn't even bring anything with them to transport the accessories. She asked me for some plastic shopping bags and that is what she packed the balls in.
I know from the buyer, that they had advised her that moving the table would most likely result in the felt having to be replaced because of tearing when the table is disassembled. Seriously?
My parents have had the same pool table for 30+ years, have moved it at least 5 times and have never had a torn felt issue during moving. And that is with my non-professional-pool-table-moving father doing all of the work with the help of a couple of uncles. Our table was moved twice before we sold it - we hired pro's to do it - and the felt was never torn.
That part in particular sounded very fishy. It sounds like their way of not having to be careful with the felt and conveniently being able to sell you new felt when they tear it.
Unfortunately, the person who bought our table was not knowledgeable about pool tables in any way. Her biggest concerns were how pretty it looked, and how the color would match what she wanted.
Our table at the time of sale was still in near perfect condition. There were 2 or 3 scratches on the entire cabinet, all minor. The felt was not visibly worn, at all, etc. My husband and I had already ordered replacement rubber from the manufacturer, and had been planning on having the bumpers redone because of the age, and we even included the replacement rubber with the table. This was all explained to her when she viewed the table.
Apparently during the delivery/setup of the table to the new owner, they decided to go ahead and put new rubber on the bumpers. The work was to be done by the movers, of course, and they even talked her into "upgrading" the rubber instead of using the FREE, brand new rubber that she already had. And from what I have gathered from the buyer, they made her feel like she had been slighted in the deal. According to the buyer, it would have cost her $45 to have the new bumpers put on with the rubber we provided. I do not know what her "upgraded rubber" cost her, but it was clearly more than $45.
She got a used table in near perfect condition (originally over $2200). Plus, a cover, 4 full-size cues, a short cue, a bridge, an oak corner stand, a full set of balls, an 8-ball rack, a 9-ball rack, tally balls, and a felt brush for $725. She got an excellent deal and the movers made even more money on her.
I can not speak for their actual setup. But if you take the time to read the filtered reviews, there are some complaints about that too.
Like I said at the beginning, I'm not out any money. But I feel like they took advantage of the person who bought our table, and she doesn't even know it. read more
