Bikes on Solano has done it again! I just purchased my second bike and what a custom beauty. It was another "adventure " finding just the perfect ride and to his credit, Mike was patient and accommodating. Several months and several test rides and here she is - "Equality ". Why the name dear reader? We speak volumes in this county about freedom and liberty, and not so much about equality. Yet the Declaration of Independence mentions Equality several times. Seems needed more than ever... So, what I love about this shop are the knowledgeable and customer service technicians - particularly- Mike the owner. You couldn't ask for more friendly and neighborly. Whether you are looking for new, used, repairs, or in my case a custom one-of-a-kind, I submit you'll be wholeheartedly satisfied with all your biking needs on Bikes on Solano. Shop local and ride!

The Steph Curry of Bike shops (when you meet him, you will get it). He's totally a geek around gears, derailleurs, sprockets, drive trains all things bikes! You see, I was recently in Copenhagen over Christmas. Number 1 son and I, decided to rent bikes at the hotel the first day and ride all over to see the sites. Other than the fact it was 15-25° f, it was tons of fun! A great bike friendly city with planned paths and lanes throughout. While in Copenhagen what's apping with Bae, I remembered seeing something about a Copenhagen wheel that won a few MIT engineers awards for designing a rider assist battery, gyroscope that affixed to the rear wheel to help propel you forward. It's not an electric bike, but if you have one that you love, the wheel can provide additional power beyond your gears. Sounds cool right?!? So while I'm in Europe, she does research and finds that Spokes bike lounge is an authorized dealer. She and Brian went back and forth over the phone discussing the pros and cons. So convinced this was the perfect fit for my riding habits we venture to Spokes to meet the man. He is so knowledgeable about all things bikes, hybrids electronic etc, he explained pluses and minuses of the Wheel, the history and evolution of the product, alternatives and options. Knowing we were coming he prepared a demo bike with the wheel affixed for both of us to test ride. The Copenhagen wheel on a pedal bike is like a shot of adrenaline with each push on the pedal. It doesn't take over like a moped as there is no throttle. It's still you peddling, but you get a constant burst of power that feels as seamless as a turbocharger in an automatic transmission sports car. We both loved riding it. It felt completely natural. Not inexpensive, Bae got it for my birthday anyway. I picked it up yesterday and tested it out for the first time on my bike circling the block once with Brian peddling along side explaining the app on my phone which controls the speed settings, GPS pedometer and other cool stuff. Crazy I felt like I was using Superman's legs to propel me up the hill near the shop. He had me pedal backwards, apparently the wheel recharges slightly when you pedal this way. The only bummer about the wheel is its weight. As Brian would say, "yep it's heavy and you wouldn't want to try to ride it without power, but you can always use your original geared wheel. " He showed me that it was two bolts and a clamp to take it off and put the original wheel back on. He also mentioned he tuned the bike gears and brakes for optimum use. I rode it once I got home before it started raining... AGAIN. Crazy fun! Spokes is the place to go for all your bike needs!

Alameda Bicycle on Park Street is a part of the community, and I feel so honored to spend my money here. Gene, George and Crew are unmatched in the Bay Area. They sell mid-price range bikes, so no $300 bikes or $14,000 bikes. I bought my first new bike here after graduating from Cal, and got my first Wall Street bonus, moons ago. It was my dream bike, a black Cannondale, top of the line. After that, got married and had children and Gene saw me through training wheels through teenage years, then sadly through a divorce. Back in a bike and climbing mountains - loving life! Anyway, today, after trying all night to get my chain back on my new e-bike (not possible on the road) I walked in and George was at the door. He sensed my frustration and said, "Come on in." It wasn't an easy fix. But they worked on it, two guys 25 minutes, and 5 tools. Meanwhile, I walked into the showroom to check out the bikes (tee hee hee). Then I noticed a new coffee and tea station with a couch and chairs, and Madeline cookies. It's just what I needed after a frustrating night and morning trying to fix it myself. Such a mindful and kind touch. People easily complain, so positive heartfelt reviews are gold. Alameda Bicycle is a solid community member and business. Honest. If I don't need something, George will say, "You don't need that." Last time, I picked up some gorgeous Ortlieb panniers (which they installed) and a fix-a-flat for on the road flats. I forgot it on the counter -- it was here waiting for me when I returned a few weeks later. They only had my old digits! BTW, I didn't eat the last Madeline cookie. I saved it for you! Come and get it -- and remember to support these incredible bike angels. Super, super Good Vibes. The absolute best Alameda bicycle shop -- to me.

The minute he arrived, I recognized him from days dealing with R&A cycles in Walnut Creek. I was instantly relieved because I had nothing but great experiences with him when he worked at that shop. However, now that he's freelancing AND mobile, I'm much happier! I knew a few things that needed to be done on my bike but Will identified a few other minor fixes that got my bike back to "as new". He figured out my rear drive-side bearing was shot, the seat post clamp had some grit in it, causing creaks, and the sealant was low in both tires. Awesome! He also serviced my Ceramic Speed bottom bracket, replaced the front chainring, and fixed a warp in the rear rotor. It's fitting that the guy who built my bike when it was new got it back to "as new" again - and the cost was absolutely a deal. In short - having a super-talented, super-nice guy come to your door and take care of your beloved bike(s) is exactly what I need in my busy life. Highly recommended!

While the shop appears to excel in its core rental business--reflected in consistently positive customer reviews and a strong reputation for providing a smooth, enjoyable rental experience--the same level of performance does not seem to carry over to its sales and customer communication practices. In particular, the sales process felt less organized and attentive than expected. Communication around product availability, follow-up, and overall customer engagement could be improved to better match the high standard set by the rental side of the business. Clearer, more proactive communication and a more structured approach to sales would likely enhance customer confidence and satisfaction. Given the success of the rental operation, there is a strong foundation to build upon. I would suggest that by aligning the sales activity that has been primarily driven by the 2025/26 AVA rebate program to closely match what has been demonstrated in rentals would significantly strengthen the overall customer experience. In addition it appears based on investigation additional costs to consumers ( shipping and to some users higher assembly costs) were added when submitting a sales request via the AVA program. Based on these experiences I would not recommend using Pedego for the reminder of the 2026 AVA program.. I hope this constructive feedback is helpful and contributes to continued improvement.

The $250 bike fit was not worth it. Here are my critiques:…read more A. The diagram of results I received was confusing and incorrect. First, the labeling of saddle height was incorrect. It showed a purely Y coordinate on the diagram. Second, (this is a less obvious but still important issue) the measurement from tip of saddle to shifter trough is error-prone. By this I mean: maybe I do it one way, maybe you do it another. I looked around my hoods and there was nothing obvious to pinpoint, given the curvature of the area. A photo and specific written instruction might help. I couldn't find any online usage of the term to clarify. Here's my suggestion: to optimize for customer experience, it would be much better to use the same shift levers as the customer (Ultegra levers are super common) and give a clearer label, such as: "distance from saddle tip to closest part of the shifter hood" B. I was disappointed that the results were not printed out right away as I walked out of the shop. Worse, there was a 3 day delay before I received the write-up. C. I expected a more thorough fit. For example: - Andres didn't measure my feet or look at my cleats until I asked. - He didn't measure leg length. - He didn't measure my arms or shoulders. D. I think some aspects of the fit were dubious. For example, Andres told me that a higher speed/cadence in a particular position is a valid way to claim that one position is better than another. Here's how I understand it: when using a bike ergometer set to a particular wattage, power is power. A higher or lower cadence (say 75 versus 80) is not a valid way to say one position is better than another. (To put it another way, rotational power equals torque times revolutions per minute. When using a constant-power setting on an ergometer, if I'm spinning 5% faster, I'm also applying 5% less torque.) Overall, this has not been a satisfying experience given the $250 price and delays. While I generally appreciate Andres' expertise, time, and effort, this was not a $250 bike fit. It was worth about half of that, at most. I shared this feedback with Andres in August 2019, but he has not yet responded. So I'm posting here in the hopes that other potential customers can either (a) get a better fit elsewhere or (b) Andres can improve the value of his bike fit.
