In the end, I was charged $2 for the screws I needed - obviously finding what I needed was an act of customer service vs making money. I would have no hesitation bringing our bikes here in the future, as they obviously care about helping their customers!

But this experience was so…read moreunbelievably unacceptable that people deserve to know before spending their hard-earned money here. We paid OVER $300 to have our bike hubs and wheels professionally laced and assembled by this shop a few years ago. The bike has barely been touched since and is still essentially BRAND NEW. When we finally went to use it, we discovered the work was an absolute hack job. We took it to another bike shop, and they took ONE LOOK at it and told us the work was horrible and beyond what they were comfortable repairing. They told us to take it back to Trek because, considering what we paid, the original work should have been done properly. And here's what makes this even worse: WE CALLED THIS STORE MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE BRINGING THE BIKE IN. We explained the situation and were told, "Sure, no problem. We'll fix it." Then we arrive and suddenly we're told they can't do anything because too much time has passed and we'd have to PAY AGAIN. We received unacceptable work. And when we came back with the problem, we were essentially told, "Too bad, pay us again." Absolutely PATHETIC. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. Take your bike somewhere that actually values its customers and stands behind the work they charge hundreds of dollars to perform.

That being said, we didn't become friends until I visited his shop for the first time and was blown away by the amazing difference in this bike shop. I've been a cyclist & triathlete for about 6-7 years and have always been disappointed at the shitty, egotistical service/attitude of the bike shops around town. Okay, I may be someone who can't afford the best bike (and a woman at that!) but I'm an athlete and more importantly a customer so give some respect already. Brett's service & attitude is totally different. He cares about what you need, not about selling you something. If fact, he prides himself on helping you find whatever you need even if it's not at his shop. He is also interested in making the city a better bike community and not just for the elite cyclist. He and his wife, Kristen put their hearts into this business. The shop is clean & chic. The prices are competitive and he has is certified in retul fitting (http://www.retul.com/) which is sweet. Hands down best bike shop in town.

Therefore, I'll likely never *need* one of the beautiful high end bikes Element sells. But, last summer, my big-box retail store-purchased Schwinn kept losing air in the back tire, and the brakes seemed wonky. Knowing avid cyclists who swear by this place, I took my bike in, hoping not to be told to get that POS out of the shop. My experience couldn't have been better! The staff held the door open for me, asked lots of questions about what problems I was experiencing, and went over what they were going to do. Two days later, my bike was ready to be picked up. The repairs were incredibly reasonable - only a little bit more than the cost of a new inner tube at the big box store. The owner was there when I picked my bike up, and he explained everything he checked and fixed, asked if I needed help getting my bike out of the store/racked onto my vehicle, and thanked me for coming in. Net, if my Schwinn has any more issues, I'll be back. And if I ever decide to get a fancy bike, this is where I will go!

It's almost impossble to find folks like this anymore. I wish I could find an honest work from home car mechanic. I think they're all gone along with good customer service. Ron truly loves the sport of biking and wants others to continue to keep it alive. Nothing like riding your bike throught the woods or over a mountain pass enjoying the benefits of the exercise along with the majesty of the great outdoors. When both my apartment and my office moved to new locations, I realized I had a roughly flat 4…read moremiles between home and work. Perfect for bicycle commuting. I was still sporting my Schwinn mountain bike I had bought with my birthday money at the wise old age of 13, and it had developed a nicely crusted patina of rust on the chain, gears, cables, etc. But why buy a new bike a mere decade later? Why not fix this up? Well, because I have no tools, and I have no idea how. That's why. That's where MOBO comes in. They have tools, and they have knowhow. And they're nice, really really nice. 3 seasons out of the year, the yard outside the shop is full of all types: neighbor kids always, hardcore riders taking advantage of the tools, total newbs (like me) getting advice from the volunteer mechanics, some just hanging out. And the mechanics here are really excellent, they share their knowledge but don't show it off. Some types of bike people reek elitism, and it can be off-putting. I think that MOBO doesn't have this is extremely important to their greater mission. In addition to the shop and the volunteer mechanics, the co-op advocates for cycling and transit in Cincinnati. The welcome environment at the shop is consistent with the very non-elite message that everyone can ride. It just makes the experience. I think this is an amazing resource to have in the community, especially if you are just looking to get into riding like I was. I went from nothing to commuting 2-4 times a week for stretches this spring and summer. Now i'm so hooked, I'm building a bike with their help this winter.

I realized later that evening that I felt silly joining a bicycle co-op that I had to drive to in order to reach easily. Regardless of my limitations, Mobo has been proving itself as a great, locally operated non-profit for over a year now. If you are unfamiliar with Mobo, they are "a non-profit, volunteer-run collective dedicated to providing every member of the Tri-State area access to bicycles, maintenance, and education". I pulled up with my bicycle and my girlfriend stuffed into the back seat and our friend Christiana riding shotgun. The bike stayed in the car but the rest of us got a personalized tour from a cute girl with a belt made from bullet casings. We also ran into an avid biker we know from the local bars volunteering his time. During the tour we were shown the area where the bicycle frames are kept. It's well know that even with a good lock you can have your bicycle stolen and Christiana had lost her baby the autumn before. Down in the dark basement she squealed with excitement when she found the frame to her stolen bike and went into a general tirade about the scum that had certainly stolen it. What was really cool was she was able to ticket it so she could come back later and start rebuilding it. The co-op offers regular workshops, fundraisers and community rides. My only complaint is that it's not closer to my current residence.
