I have been looking for a karaoke place in Salem and happen to see an ad on IG. Checked this place out on a Wednesday night...this place definitely did not disappoint. From the KJ to the bartender, all positives and I had an awesome evening! The fries with the house salt, great tasting. The karaoke system can be tweaked if you asked nicely and made me sound good. And who can forget the stage with all the effects. I apologize for forgetting the KJ's name as it was that kind of a night. The song list seemed endless and I actually placed in to many songs as we closed the place. The crowd while a few, it's Wednesday and I am visiting, meaning vacation for me. All in all, a great place for karaoke, fries were good, the crowd, awesome and kept the atmosphere great. Oh, karaoke comes on after a show, it was comedy night. Parking was easy, found a stall almost in front and the prices seemed fair to me. Aloha

I wanted to give a stellar review, I really did. We came for the Improv for my kiddo's bday, the…read moreshow was great, I loved how inclusive they were and they seemed like a solid little troupe. The venue is small and cozy, well lit, cute stage, clean bathrooms, all the basics covered. We planned on dinner because it seemed like the thing to do. When we hammered out what we wanted our order to be, we handed it to the guy handling it and he went about his business and we enjoyed the show. Except when we were interrupted. Three. Separate. Times. Because they were out of things on the menu they couldn't work out in one go apparently, both food and drink, and we'd have to quietly and as unobtrusively as possible figure out alternatives. Then it took stunning Ages to get the food out. Which, to be fair, was tasty for vegan eats. The totchos were drowning in So Many goopy layers, it was more like eating a wet salad on top of lumpy mash, but still, pretty tasty. We also had drinks and entrees. However, about a half hour after we ate, we started getting sick. I held on as long as I could, mostly until I could get home, when the throwing up started. It didn't end for some time. I had eaten nothing else that day, and neither had my cohort who ate the same as I did. Once the food was out of my gut, I was completely fine. If we ever go back it will be entirely for the entertainment because having a menu doesn't actually mean you have your shit together in the kitchen, and I can't risk what was very likely mild food poisoning. I can eat some gnarly food, I'm kind of a garbage disposal that way, so there's no other explanation. I wish them the best, they've got a great venue.

None of the trendy hipster "coolness" that has come to rankle me in other popular coffee shops. I've had some delicious pastries and excellent drinks, including coffee and non-coffee specialties like their golden milk latte which is unique and amazing. Comfy space, high ceilings , exposed brick. My only feedback is that they serve their bagels to go with a cup of cream cheese and a sliced bagel. This is common, but I don't understand why anyone would want to spread cream cheese on their own bagel when they're on the road. It would be like ordering a sandwich and a stack of meat, cheese, lettuce, and bread and asked to assemble that while you're driving. That's literally my only complaint and it's a small one. I will be a Regular at this coffee shop, bagels be damned! lol.

Iona took special care to offer recommendations on each page of the menu. I love loved the drinks. The first one I tried had watermelon and chocolate, among other things. After taking my first sip, I started talking and stopped mid-sentence because my taste buds were doing something interesting. Hard to describe, but what an experience! I ordered a 2nd recommended drink that was so yummy. I think it has "passport" in its name. The food was also delicious. I especially enjoyed the fried chicken skin. It had just the right amount of sweetness. Oh and the cornbread dipped in honey was bombbbb. My favorite part about this place was the library. The Library of Black Excellence. What a wonderful, welcoming little space. They incentivize patrons to borrow and read their books with free meals! Wonderful idea! Also, they offer a 20% discount on Thursdays for educators. The primary problem was that they were out of many menu items by 6pm. The dining room is cool with a nice vibe, super friendly waiter and food came from the kitchen pretty quickly. Weird arrangement with the coffee shop located in the restaurant as well. Restaurant was out of desserts and coffee, but could not serve any of the desserts from the coffee shop case, as those were part of the coffee shop. Despite that, we will be back next time we visit Salem, and I'm sure they will figure out how to manage supply of food items better so they are not sold out before 6pm.
