    8oz mocha with coconut milk
    Layne D.

We happened to walk by Big Wig and on a whim decided to pop in. Neither of us are GF or vegan but we really enjoyed these donut holes!! We tried one of each flavor that was available: chocolate sprinkle, chocolate matcha, lemon poppyseed, cinnamon sugar, maple, and apple cider chai. I also tried an 8oz mocha with coconut milk. The mocha was very good! Perfect size and mellow flavor. The coconut milk was a good choice. The donut holes themselves were very good. Our favorites were the chocolate sprinkle and cinnamon sugar but I'm so glad we tried them all. The staff were very friendly as well. Overall definitely worth a stop if you're in the area!

A box of heaven on earth

Rather than post another photo of the donut holes (but I am posting a photo anyway), I wanted to also say how the gentleman behind the counter, whom I believe to be the owner, deserves an award as Friendliest Nicest Person in Salem. Honestly, he is so genuinely warm, welcoming and friendly, PLUS you're getting delicious fresh unique donut holes AND great coffee, it's a total win-win. I ALWAYS feel cheerful leaving there with a smile every time I visit this establishment. If you're ordering coffee, he always asks if it tastes OK and is clearly interested in making sure you like what you ordered. The variety of innovative flavors and freshness of the donut holes are spectacular. Visit often! They continuously change up the selection.

Yep, this place serves delicious donut holes. You won't find full-size donuts, but delicious bites of heaven instead. They are gluten free and vegan This is my second time here. I have tried all the flavors. This last visit I had the lemon poppyseed and chocolate peppermint. The lemon poppyseed is my absolute fave. My only regret is not getting more. Limited hours so make sure to check when they are open. Open Wednesday thru Saturday. You can call in ahead your order for easy pickup. They also have coffee here and other hot drinks. I had a butterscotch latte I think. I was happy they have alternative milks. My latte was ok, the temp was too cold. Other than that I always have a great experience here. Please support small businesses like this one. Especially since they are good for everyone! My friends that aren't gluten free love them too!

    1. The workers very kind and polite. 2. The atmosphere is great. 3. THE DONUT HOLES We got lemon poppyseed, maple, cinnamon sugar and the raspberry. The raspberry is a must try, the initial flavor profile is AMAZING. You get a very strong raspberry taste at first but it mellows out into perfection. Just don't get less then a dozen because you'll regret it if you don't.

There's not enough good things I can say about this place. I cannot have gluten or dairy so you can imagine the last time I was able to eat a donut was a long time ago. We went here on a whim because I was craving them, and I'm so glad we did! We tried one of each flavor and each was better than the last, I would say the glazed chocolate was a surprising show stopper even though it's a simple flavor. They also have delicious coffee and non coffee based beverages. Can't wait till I can get my next dozen!

    5.50 for 6

First of all there NO donuts at Big Wig Donuts. Zero, zilch, none. Silly me for expecting donuts at a store that has donuts in it's name. They do have tiny little balls of donut holes. They are literally half cooked and are dense and damp inside. How does gluten free equal gluey? They're also not inexpensive. 3 of these little wet balls will set you back 3.50 but you can get a dozen for 10 bucks if you've got a sawbuck to waste. I think about 6 of these holes equal 1 actual donut. They seem to be mainly a coffee shop. Right after I inquired about donuts I was asked if they "could get a drink started" for me. Bait and switch! There are literally 10 other places to get coffee and tea in a 2 block radius of this place, so why bother coming here.

The venue is small and cozy, well lit, cute stage, clean bathrooms, all the basics covered. We planned on dinner because it seemed like the thing to do. When we hammered out what we wanted our order to be, we handed it to the guy handling it and he went about his business and we enjoyed the show. Except when we were interrupted. Three. Separate. Times. Because they were out of things on the menu they couldn't work out in one go apparently, both food and drink, and we'd have to quietly and as unobtrusively as possible figure out alternatives. Then it took stunning Ages to get the food out. Which, to be fair, was tasty for vegan eats. The totchos were drowning in So Many goopy layers, it was more like eating a wet salad on top of lumpy mash, but still, pretty tasty. We also had drinks and entrees. However, about a half hour after we ate, we started getting sick. I held on as long as I could, mostly until I could get home, when the throwing up started. It didn't end for some time. I had eaten nothing else that day, and neither had my cohort who ate the same as I did. Once the food was out of my gut, I was completely fine. If we ever go back it will be entirely for the entertainment because having a menu doesn't actually mean you have your shit together in the kitchen, and I can't risk what was very likely mild food poisoning. I can eat some gnarly food, I'm kind of a garbage disposal that way, so there's no other explanation. I wish them the best, they've got a great venue.

The primary problem was that they were out of many menu items by 6pm. The dining room is cool with a nice vibe, super friendly waiter and food came from the kitchen pretty quickly. Pimento cheese appetizer was delicious, one of the better versions I've had. Unfortunately the Pierogi were pretty bland and nothing special, and for the high price, just not worth it. Weird arrangement with the coffee shop located in the restaurant as well. Restaurant was out of desserts and coffee, but could not serve any of the desserts from the coffee shop case, as those were part of the coffee shop. Despite that, we will be back next time we visit Salem, and I'm sure they will figure out how to manage supply of food items better so they are not sold out before 6pm. Lots of potential here for a small neighborhood restaurant.

Unlike most places that make the dish look like a lot by packing it on a small plate, this one had a massive plate and piled it high. Even the kid's meal was the size of an adult portion! My pad Thai was supposed to be a level 4 spice, but it wasn't spicy at all, and it was a bit on the sweeter side -- not overwhelming, but sweeter than I expected. I also tried the house special fried rice, which was gigantic but sadly lacked flavor. I really didn't enjoy it. The chicken tenders were crispy but a little dry. However, the flourless chocolate cake was amazing! I'd never had it before, but it was so rich and delicious. Highly recommend that dessert! I'm giving 4 stars mainly because of the huge portion sizes. The food overall would probably be closer to 3 stars for me, but the portions definitely stood out. As for the ambiance, it wasn't the prettiest place, definitely an old-school vibe, but it was huge and clean, so no complaints there. Service was just your standard, nothing extraordinary.

I just traditionally like meat. That said, my wife and mother and I came to Venti's for dinner while in Salem. They each ordered the more traditional meat hamburgers and fries. I decided since it was a vegan-forward restaurant, I'd try a vegan dish. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you, so it's a little more like a diner than a "fine dining" restaurant. Our service was good, quick and friendly. The atmosphere is a bit cold, but not off-putting. I ordered the Red Curry Pasta with a Side Salad. Other reviewers seemed to be raving about the red curry, so I thought it was worth a try. I can see why they rave about it. It was excellent! And the side salad had a variety of ingredients, so it wasn't "just a side salad". I tried the avocado ranch dressing and it was fine. Not stellar, but good. The pasta had just the right amount of sauce and was very flavorful. Now to the meat. You might expect a vegan-forward restaurant to have meat dishes as kind of an afterthought. But both my wife and mother raved about their burgers. My wife got the Rooster Burger and mom got the traditional House Burger. With meat. And cheese. And fries. They LOVED the burgers. Well, the vegan gods rained plant based blessings upon us by guiding (some might say .. delivering lol) us to Venti's Cafe & Beer Vault in the charming downtown area of Salem. Upon entering, I first took notice of the whimsical welcoming ambiance inside, sort of reminded me of Chickpea in Vancouver, BC. Also, I had to fight back a smirk when reading about the upcharge for anyone ordering meat based options, I mean it's about time eateries started being vegan by default and adding an upcharge "meat tax" lol instead of the typical vegan-tax we vegans all too often have to incur. It's no wonder the vegan gods delivered us :) to Venti .. given that everything they had to offer was truly divine, which I offer without hyperbole of any kind, just complete sincerity!! The Grilled Cheese consisted of a parmesan crusted sourdough bread with not one but *two* melted vegan cheeses (cheddar and smoked provolone), the Truffle Fries were bold and unapologetic in their truffle-y goodness, the Tomato Basil Soup was rich and loaded with flavor and last but certainly not least, the Vegan Red Curry Mac was really delicious and brought the punch. For the latter, the individual bites didn't feel hot in and of themselves but rather it was the accumulated effect that really left a lasting impression. I think the dish could maybe benefit from a side of vegan yogurt, to add a freshness and help balance the heat but that's not to imply this dish was lacking in any way, it was sooo good! As if that wasn't enough, they also offer a raw vegan cake dessert. Sadly, we didn't get the chance to try as we didn't take notice until after we had already ordered our food. Between the decadence of the food and joyful ambiance, coupled with a charming location in downtown Salem, this will definitely be a place for use to revisit many time over!
