It was about 6 months or so that I decided to try boba.... Honestly, I thought that I would probably not like it but I was willing to give it a try , and yes I really enjoyed it . A very clean asthenosphere and the workers are very kind . Within five minutes ... I already had my order . The only complaint that I have is that for some reason at 8:30 they ran out of Boba lol. The boba drinks here were good and perfect for a nice, sunny day! I got the jasmine green milk tea with boba and it was very flavorful. My boyfriend got the strawberry smoothie with lychee and fruit jelly, which also was delicious. They have these jumbo sized cups like the ones they have in Vegas but only for the smoothies. I was sad they couldn't do the jasmine green milk tea in the huge cups because the large was kind of small for me. We paid $5.50 each for a "large." To be honest, I just came here because I heard this place had the split cup boba. Although when I tried the boba, I wasn't that impressed. I ordered a split cup with half Thai Tea and half Milk Tea which was called Tiger Tea. They basically only have this option of a split cup and green tea options. The split cup is pretty cool because it's made from a durable plastic that you can reuse; that's probably why it cost $6. The boba was okay and the drink was a bit on the watery side. I don't know if it's just me, but their Milk Tea barely had any flavor. Inside was fairly small as it did not have any seats inside, but just a long cushioned bench along the wall. They also do not have restrooms here. I do applaud them on their fast service though! They only had one worker at the time and there was a small line, but I only waited about 2 minutes for my drink. I enjoy my first boba from here, I ordered the Thai Tea with boba and custard pudding. The place was clean and the women employees working tonight were nice. What I love most about Bigstraw Boba is the moment when I'm in the area and realize "Omg! I forgot about Bigstraw Boba!" And then it's exciting because you'll B-Line it there. That said, I gave it 4 stars because I don't actually enjoy going there and ordering it and waiting for it for some reason. I just want it done and be drinking it and skip the process. Lol. The drinks tasted great and they had a wide variety of flavors on can drink from. The orange creamsicle, the watermelon, and the passion fruit tasted great. However the horchata drink wasn't as good. I cannot take anyone seriously when they say they're boba lovers and think this is good. The actual drinks are fine and the service is fantastic. Boba, oh sweet boba. You odd, little balls of tapioca serving up a snack with my cool, refreshing drink. I'm still baffled at how resistant some people can be at the idea of this delicious beverage. Anyhow, cue Big Straw 2. I actually just stumbled across this business while browsing yelp since I had thought boba had died out after Froyo became the new craze. With the encouragement of 4.5 star rating though, off me and my wife went to peep this new Oxnard spot. Gotta say, they did damn good. The consistency and texture of their boba is some of the best I've had, and I've had them from all over. I'm seriously just under the impression that the people who smack-talk the tasty tapioca treats are those elitist valley/LA people who think "zomg, so like the valley is totally like the best and like everything in it is like, so much better." I gotta be honest with you though...I can't exactly speak for anything else in their menu except for the Taro Slush with boba cuz that's the same damn drink I get every time I come here, which is about once a week (I know, it's a sickness). I find myself craving that cup of purple about two days after my last one. (For those in the know, taro is a tropical root vegetable similar to ube though not quite exactly). I guess my only complaint would be that their prices are higher than those spots in the valley or LA (okay you got us on that one). I ordered a blended drink and it was ready very quick. The drink I ordered was the Carmel Creme and I choose to have boba in my drink. The flavor of the drink was very good, sweet but not overly sweet. And they added whipped cream on top which was interesting but not bad. The boba has a good flavor to it. It was also a good texture. Not the best I've ever had but certainly good. The price wasn't awful but it was a little more than I'm used to paying for boba. The large is $5.50 and the small is $4.75. I'm giving a 4 star review, since I go here ALMOST all the time since it's the only reliable go-to place for boba in Oxnard. Most of the time, its really good. However, I would like to express an unpleasant experience from what happened there earlier today. I ordered 2 large avocado smoothies, and when I had a sip of it, it tasted nothing like avocado. Just milk, sugar, ice and a hint of avocado. I told the girl who made our drink that it didnt taste anything like avocado. Her response was that she did use avocado. I dont doubt that she didnt, but maybe she didnt use enough for two large orders, hence the slight taste and the light green coloring. I should've been offered a replacement for I havent even left the place and the drink was barely consumed. But after hearing her curt response, I left the place and ended up throwing the cup in the trash outside of the door. Green tea lychee w/ boba The drink was surprisingly very good, the lychee was not overpowering the green tea unlike Blossom Tea House where they drench the green tea in lychee syrup. I appreciated how Big Straw stayed true to the flavor of the green tea and only adding a hint of lychee. When I got my order I wanted to add some lychee jellies, so I waited in line again to get some. When it was my turn the girl that was helping me had such a condescending tone to her voice and it seemed like she had no interest of helping me. I am from L.A so I wanted to try something that I can find in L.A so I decided on Bigstraw Boba over Boba Time. Unfortunately, I made a mistake. When we first went in, we asked the cashier some questions specifically regarding if they had slushed drinks but the lady didn't understand what a slushed drink is. We asked if blended was anything like slushed and she kept saying no and talking to us as if we were children. When we got our blended drink, it actually was a slush. First time trying this boba place. The girls were super friendly and quick. Reasonably priced? $4.25 for a small drink. I think so, specially since that's what I pay for a Starbucks drink anyway. I ordered a Hawaiian coconut. Really refreshing coconut, tastes like Piña Colada, all I need is my pool-side chair and a good book. Haha My sons ordered Lychee and horchata. To me, an Oxnard native, this is the best spot for boba in town. When it's a quick shop like this I don't mind good or bad service since I'm not staying for long. It's a quick hi and bye so don't expect much, anyway the boba to me is bomb. Again c'mon I think it's common sense to know this boba doesn't do fruit smoothie boba's like if it were a juice bar, a boba is a treat and should b treated as one. Oxnard btw, isn't known for boba's so don't expect an OG OG boba like you probably shouldn't expect poke is as good in Cali as it is in Hawaii. This Bigstraw used to make some really good drinks when they first opened. We were feeling the craving today. So my wife, my daughter and I went in to the store on the corner of Oxnard Blvd and Vineyard today, 04/05/19, at 4:23 pm. We ordered 3 Taro Boba drinks and took a seat. The Girl behind us ordered a banana drink and I think the other was coffee boba. And I know this because she got her drinks before us. Not that it took much more time, but.... really. It took the girl longer to make her 2 separate flavored drinks than it did to make our 3 Taro drinks. Way to make your customers feel less than adequate. And to top it off, my drink was full of ice chunks and grainy. We'll get ours elsewhere from now on. read more

Customer service was good. The reason I give it this rating is that I'm from the LA/OC area and these areas are littered with boba shops competing with each other. So the taste of the milk tea and quality of the boba is usually very good for most of the places you'll try. So for me, this was underwhelming. The boba is actually mushy and chalky. The milk tea tasted like it was purely flavored sugar. Usually, milk teas have some hint of the tea taste at least. It may be the better boba in the area, but it can definitely be way better. I may come back and try it in a few months and see if it starts to catch up to the boba standards these days and rerate this. Looking forward to any improvements! read more

I'll admit, I have really high standards when it comes to boba. And Big Straw just doesn't cut it for me. They've got some fun options, like a yard o' boba (but really, how is that a good idea) or a split cup that has two flavors (but you can only do tiger tea, which is half Thai tea and half milk tea, or two flavors of green tea...not sure why you can't do other combos). All their flavored drinks are made from powders, which results in a grainy texture. I can't hang. The actual boba isn't amazing, but isn't bad. Good texture, but lacking the sweetness of superlative boba. Their ice is on point--crushed and perfect. Their drinks are outrageously sweet, so unless you're into that, go for 50% or 75% sweet. read more
