Big Way Hot Pot finally made it's way to Markham. A self serve hot pot experience where you grab your own ingredients, pick your broth and pay by weight. Super popular concept right now and I'm so glad it's here! I came during their soft opening and thought the space is big and clean. Thought the cashier staff was very nice, but definitely asks way too many questions with customizations/ drink orders/ add ons, etc., since it took a long time per person and there was a line forming behind us. They also have a DIY sauce bar which is always a nice touch. Bibs on the side to prevent splattering onto your clothes and the best part is of course the complimentary ice cream at the end of your meal. I came with a few people so got to try the different broths, here's my ratings for each: Signature Mala 5/5 - Loved that this wasn't burn my tongue spicy and numbing. Great flavour. Collagen bone broth 5/5 - Clean tasting rich soup. Made with premium pork bones. Tomato broth 3.5/5 - Thought this didn't have much tomato taste to it. Tom Yum 3.5/5 - This was a good sour and hot soup taste but I didn't love the coconut milk that they put in the center of your bowl. Overall, a great spot to get an individual hot pot meal that is paid by the gram.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the newly opened Big Way Hot Pot in Markham and it was certainly a treat! Their concept is simple. You choose all your own ingredients from a multitude of choices, including meats, seafood, vegetables, noodles, and more. Your choices are weighed to determine the cost, and then you choose the flavour of your broth. They cook it for you and bring it to your table. My friend and I must have made some great choices because it was all delicious! Choosing our ingredients made sure we got exactly what we wanted. My picks included smoked duck, lamb, tofu, vermicelli, veggies, and their signature spicy broth. Hers was a little more seafood forward, with purple yam noodles. The combinations are endless! I also had their Strawberry Sparkling beverage with Popping Boba and it was very refreshing. I even got to choose my sweetness level and it turned out perfect! An Ube ice cream cone completed a very enjoyable meal. If you like fresh food, with the ability to choose your own ingredients, check out Big Way at McCowan and Hwy 7 in Markham.

We got invited to the soft opening of Big Way Markham and took it as the perfect chance to try ingredients we don't usually go for--and it did not disappoint. The experience is pretty straightforward: you're greeted at the front, handed a bowl and tongs, and then it's all about building your own hot pot. We loaded up on some favorites like the fortune bags, spam, napa cabbage, and the cheese-filled lobster dumplings (highly recommend these). Once you're done, everything is weighed and you pay by weight, then choose your broth and any drinks. I added cheese as a topping this time, but honestly I'd probably skip it next visit--it tends to clump together in the broth and wasn't as enjoyable as I expected. On the other hand, the cookies and cream drink was a win--basically like a melted McFlurry, so if that's your thing, you'll love it. We ended up with leftovers (portions can add up quickly), so we packed them to go and finished the night with ice cream. We got taro, but flavors rotate, which keeps things fun. Overall, a great interactive dining experience with lots of variety--perfect if you like customizing your meal.

Brand new big way location! We had the opportunity to stop by and give things a try. First of all service very very good. All the workers are super nice. They took their time to explain everything. Only issue we had was there was a big delay in getting our drink drinks. We were almost done our meal and then received the beverage. Really cool design and layout fun place to eat. On our particular day it seemed like they were having some issues with their music system so it would all of a sudden just stop but they would reset it or fix it. And onto the most important part! The food! It's a place where you choose your own ingredients and then you pay by the weight. So the more hungry, you are the more expensive it would be. And because it's a pick your own type of hot pot place it's a little difficult to leave a review so I will leave a review on the broth. 4/5 tomato broth. Even at maximum spice level, it wasn't spicy at all. My girlfriend does not eat any spicy and was able to handle it fine. So not sure if they forgot to make a spicy or if it was toned down a lot. Otherwise tomato broth was decent. Could have more tomato flavor. 4/5 collagen broth. Very nice clear broth not much flavor to it again not sure if they're still finishing off the broths and fine tuning the flavoring. 5/5 hotpot selection a lot of options to choose from the exploding fish balls or the filled fish balls are fun. Lots of noodle options. The pork slice slices when we went was frozen and one big piece so we weren't able to try it. But the beef was nice and tender when it was cooked. So we didn't have any issues there. After you make your selection and make your bowl, they pre-cook everything for you before bringing it to your table. You can customize your own sauce at the sauce bar while you wait. We didn't have any issue everything came cooked, but not overcooked, which was great. Overall, a great experience would definitely recommend trying big way hotpot if you have not tried already!

We called ahead since we are a party 6+. We had to try multiple times because our call was left unanswered.. Overall food was great .. until I found something shiny stuck to a shrimp in the hotpot. I was able to figure out what it was once I took it out. A flexible SHARP STEEL filament - Likely from steel wool. GROSS!!!!! And DANGEROUS!!! After I found that, it ruined my appetite and night. I became paranoid and worried about my family biting into steel. Will this result in a trip to the hospital? The server was apologetic and helped us change the broth immediately but honestly I wish there was more from management. It's not like finding a strand of hair. This is serious!!! Daimaru's lack of food safety and poor hygiene is unacceptable. I am still fuming that this happened. They are lucky I found it before any of the 7 seniors found it stuck in their throat or intestines. The nice servers had to hear our anger and frustration. Eventually after the second complaint from us did the manager finally decide to come in personally and address it. Should have addressed it the moment it happened in my opinion. If you eat here, eat at your own risk and check your food carefully. Attaching our receipt of the resolution: 10% off our entire bill. Won't be recommending to anyone.

Staff were attentive and things came out at a good pace. It hasn't been overly busy the times I've gone, so hard to say how it holds up during peak hours, but no issues from my visits so far. Food 3.5/5 Solid selection of hotpot ingredients, with enough variety to keep things interesting. Quality was consistent across the board. They also have a bamboo-style drink that stands out visually and fits the whole theme well. Nothing felt lacking, but also nothing that completely blew past expectations. One thing I did notice is it hasn't been packed during my visits, which either means I've been going at quieter times or there are aspects I haven't fully experienced yet during peak hours. Still, for the atmosphere, parking convenience, and overall quality, it's an easy spot to come back to.

They came to refill our soup every now and then and food came quite quick. I liked how they offer a big pot or separate individual pots per person. Now on to the actual food, I thought the food was just sooo average. Nothing was bad but at the same time nothing stood out to me... I vastly prefer Daimaru and Haidilao over this place. The soup base here was more bland with less ingredients. The meat was not as tender and fatty. The veggies were fine but the lettuce was a bit bitter. I did like how they have a sauce bar but their soy sauce is VERY salty so be careful. I also wish they had more dessert options. I'm glad I tried it but I don't think I would return considering Daimaru offers the same lunch AYCE at the same price with better food overall and more selections. There are some good things about this place but it's just not enough for me to come back. They also accept credit card which is nice.
