Wow. This is easily one of my favorite meals I've ever had. When I heard about a birria ramen, I had to give Big Papi's a try. And it didn't disappoint. The birria ramen was amazing. I'm a huge ramen head, chasing down the best ramen joints around nyc, and this ramen is such a cool take on the classic and something really special. The broth is so rich and delicious. The perfect amount of salty pot roast, tangy citrus, and just a bit of citrus. The cilantro brings it all together. The hot cheeto esquite was also really good. I've been missing elite since moving back from California, and this satisfied my craving for sure. Two very small critiques I have to offer. First, because Big Papi's is take out only, I had to wait to get somewhere i could eat. I got somewhere pretty quickly, but because the ramen is packaged all together, the ramen noodles were a bit overdone by the time I got to eating. I would reccomend maybe packaing the noodles separately for takeout orders to avoid this. Then the customer can add it to the broth on their own. My second small reccomendation is for the esquite. Some of the water from the corn pooled at the bottom of the container and I just would have enjoyed it a bit more if the corn was thoroughly drained. All in all, this place is fantastic. The food was amazing I got a birria taco plus the papi taco. They were both so good and didn't lack flavor or quantity of tops/meats. The order was made before my intended time of pickup. The only thing that sucked was paying 3.45 for a regular sprite because they were out of the mango. Plus the churros were so good. Lots of caramel and sugar. Hands down top-3 best taco's I've ever had - and I've lived in both LA and in San Antonio, two major taco towns. Their double-layer method is central to locking in the cheesy goodness and their killer tortilla marinade. Personal favorite is the rockfish but the Al pastor and carnitas are both rock solid. Wow. Really great food. They must have changed their prices too (see earlier complaints in reviews); $9 for three tacos is reasonable enough. Everything we tried was good, including the Carnegie asada, but the Birria was the real standout. We had it over fries (big Papis fries) and when we took our first bite my wife and I locked eyes and I broke out into a celebratory dance. A moment of culinary joy for sure. Can't wait to try the quesobirria and birria ramen next time we are up that way. We generally think 5 stars in Frederick is about 3 stars in DC or San Francisco where we are from, but this is legit 5 stars. This is probably the 3rd or 4th time this has happened to us where we ordered off door dash, ordered the birria tacos which comes to a whopping 18$ and they forget the consome. For the price and the items we ordered, it's not worth the money. These are hands down the BEST taco's I've had in the DMV! I live in Moco and constantly make the 40 minute drive specifically for this gem of a taco spot . O.K. I am mad. I have been looking for a Taco place this good for fifteen years. These tacos are the best I have ever eaten. The Birria tacos were delicious; dipped in the consome, even better. And the Papi sauce!!! Unbeliavable. I cannot wait to go back (maybe tomorrow?). I just stole a piece of my wife's Tinga Quesadilla; now I don't know what to order tomorrow. Price is not terrible; especially in the age of Covid. Top notch food, to go. Order on line and set you GPS. This place is inconspicuous but very easy to find. We ordered the carne asada, tinga and birria tacos. Tacos were really good. Beans were basic pintos, rice was fine. Would have liked these sides to stand out more. We loved the quesabirria, pricey at almost $30 but really yummy! Definitely for the stoners out there LOL! Honestly they could use less meat and drop the price by $10 and I'd buy more often. But damn those tortillas were good!! Loved the crema sauce and the consume -- YUM!! Ramen was tasty - again that broth is good!! But noodles were squishy by the time we got home. Way too salty tonight. Ordered two burritos, beans, Mexican rice, tacos. The beans were so salty, we spit them out. The rice and the meat in the burritos was way over salted. FLAMIN HOT CHEETOS ESQUITE LOCO: Bland - unseasoned corn from a can, mayonnaise, and Cheetos. Eating just a regular bag of Cheetos is more flavorful and enjoyable than this. It's like a dorm kid smoked too much pot, and all he had left in his room were these three ingredients. BIRRIA TACOS: O c'mon man. Are you kidding me? Did the chef lose his taste buds? Where's the love? More importantly, where's the seasoning?! For almost 14 dollars, you get dry, bland meat, some flavorless canned beans, and rice. No sour cream, salsa, guac, or anything. And what was that consommé? Dirty water and soup? Worst consommé I've had in a long time. Better tacos and value at Café Rio - and that place is not anything overly special. Finally, the "Papi Sauce." Not great, not bad. I could see it being good on good food... maybe just a bad batch. It happens. I'm not some mean, grumpy customer who's out there giving bad reviews to places just because he's bitter. I love a good, authentic hole-in-the-wall. Maybe some of their other dishes are better. Ok, we came here with such high hopes and left sorely disappointed. First, we ordered at the front at an automated station. Great. Not too crowded so we thought it shouldn't take too long because they were well staffed. We were greeted when we came in so that was nice. The music was pumping which was good until they called your name and you couldn't here the staff call your name out. Our order consisted of tacos of carnitas, Carne asada, and birria. We finally got our order a half an hour later. I don't know why it took so long but ok. We finally eat our tacos and there was barely any onions or cilantro on the tacos and no salsa on the carnitas and Carne asada. So they were really dry. We realized then you have to order salsa as an extra. Ok... then the birria was dry meat with tons of cheese no flavor to the meat and the consume tasted like watered down el pato sauce. It had a tomato taste and no chile flavor with spices. Needless to say we couldn't finish the tacos it was not good and the Carne asada tasted off like the meat was old. I don't know where they learned how to make tacos but there is much to be desired from this establishment. We were completely disappointed. I could make this at home and it be so much better. Unfortunately, we will not return and we will not reccomend this place either. I know good tacos being from southern California and Arizona and raised on authentic Mexican cuisine. This is my second time trying big papis....... Still disappointed. The flavors are just not there. The hot sauce u get with your order taste like tomato paste and water. I had to add my own hot sauces from home to make it better. I had to refry my food in the air fryer Bc it was so soggy I got 2 mulitas and looked like they just heated it up in a microwave they didn't even dip it in the consome it was sooooo plain.
