I broke the AC compressor suction line on my Prius 2006. It only needed a new suction line and a recharge of refrigerant. Big O wanted $986.48 for this. I went around the corner to DNA Automotive and had that exact work done for $494.74 - literally half of Big O's estimate. It's one thing to not be competitive, but an estimate that runs twice the cost of another similarly reputable repair chain is quite another thing: it crosses solidly into predatory pricing. Whether that attempt is successful or not (and it was certainly not in my case) doesn't matter; that a business even _tries_ to do that is extremely bad mannered. Buyer beware! read more

I had a slow leak on my Audi Q7 right rear Tire. I have 22 inch tires for more road hugging. It was pouring down buckets of rain and I stopped by the local Big O Tire Store here in Novato. The owner Jorge said, "we can handle that now Kevin". Great and gave him the keys and I was about to run back to my insurance office 3 long blocks away in the rain. Jorge asked, "Would you like a ride back to work". Now that is going above and beyond the call of duty. I picked up my car two hours later and the Tire has been working great for the past month! I don't know about their tires but beware for the brakes. Big O seems to 'need' to 'replace' more brake calipers than any other company. They told me the calipers were gone, that they would need to be replaced and the total would be $1500.00. I called my 5 star mechanic for his estimate - when he heard the word caliper, he asked - Big O? I had considered Big O because I didn't want tot drive to Larkspur with the faulty brakes. I was fine. My 5 star automotive repair shop fixed it within hours. The bill was $700. It never needed a new front right caliper. read more

Big Joke, not Big O. Horrible service. I made an appointment online to get a simple tire rotation. I sat there for an hour and half, listening to one employee on the phone trying to figure his PGE bill out, another out front talking to his friend on a motorcycle, while me and another customer just sat there. When I first arrived they told me it would be 30 minutes. 90 minutes later, when nothing had happened, I got my keys and left. I asked the guy who pulled my car out why they couldn't get any work done, and he didn't speak a stitch of English. I couldn't understand a word he said. There's a lot of places in Novato to get tire service. I would strongly recommend looking at any other place than this. My family will never go back. This tire company endangered my life by ensuring me that the tire they supposedly repaired and sent me on my to Sacramento, and literally 5min after leaving their store, on the freeway, that exact tire blew. I almost got hit by oncoming traffic, had to pull over on the side of the highway at night and change a flat tire. I'm a woman in my 50s, and I had a slow leak, and just to ensure I would get home safely my husband who has been a Big O customer for years, told me to go there and get it repaired. I honestly could have just put more air in and made it home. Jorge seemed nice and their team "repaired" it he said. I don't think they did. It blew instantly the minute I got on the freeway. I brought it back to him and he said there was nothing wrong with the repair and that I must of driven over a pothole or something. Uh duh... the tire looks like that now cuz I had to drive with a flat tire on the freeway! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that the very same tire you supposedly repaired is the same one that blew literally 5min from leaving your store? And you blame me for driving over a pothole the second I leave your store? And now I have to buy a brand new tire from you guys? You endangered my life by putting me back on the freeway with a faulty tire repair. C'mon Big O, do the right thing, that's just so wrong. I gave Big O a try when I had a leak and my normal shop was closed. They explained that the leaky tire needed to be replaced as well as all the tires of my car. I don't think that's true because I just happened to check them last week. In any case, I drive an EV and we use self sealing tires. They wanted to sell me tires that were not my type. They said I could use one as a spare. EV's don't carry spares, we use self sealing tires. It turns out, they don't carry them. I have a lack of confidence in them because they didn't understand how my car works and wanted to sell me tires that are inappropriate and likely not necessary. What if I was someone who knew nothing about tires and was looking at them for guidance? My regular shop, Able Tire, carries and repairs the tires I require. But they are now sadly closed on Saturday. read more

I bought a set of four top of the line tires at Costco over the summer. I have put under 5,000 miles on them so to walk out to my ride and see such a substantial flat was a major surprise. Of course Costco Tire center wouldn't answer ANY of my calls!! Now i am glad because i had the fortune of meeting Jonathan and the other fellas at Big O in Novato. They knew i needed to pick up my kid from school and so they LENT me a spare tire. That's right, LENT it to me. Who does that anymore??!! I hadn't even bought my original tires from them! I helped a friend get her car to Big O tires on Saturday because she had a nail in her back tire and it needed to be patched. She knew she needed two new front tires but doesn't have the money right now. I suggested she get a quote for the front while she got the back one patched, so she could compare prices during the week when other stores were open. To my disgust, they told her they wouldn't patch the tire and that she had to get four new tires which was $1300! Let me tell you, the nail WAS NOT in the sidewall and there was no reason they couldn't patch it. They saw a woman who doesn't know about cars/tires and they took advantage of her on a holiday weekend knowing she needed it back. They are sleazy and dishonest. Do not take your car there unless you're prepared to fight with them and advocate for yourself. This is not the type of business I expect in our small town! But when I showed up for my appointment, I was told that the better tires @ a total $30 more were not in fact available and was offered 2 lesser tires for about $90 more all included. Zero Stars---- On three separate occasions over the last few years I have tried to do business with this shop. The first time I had to call the Regional rep to sort out why the shop charged me for an alignment on a Mercedes Benz but didn't have a specific tool to complete the one aspect, and they didn't tell me that BEFORE the car was on the rack. Then I come in with a tire hissing air, nail in the TREAD, the guy comes out starts this song and dance on how old the tire is (6 years) and how he won't repair it, It ran on the side wall and damaged it blah blah blah...cow manure ...so off to ABLE Tire just down the street, where they: pull, patch and repair the tire...no b.s. about the 'age' of the tire, or it's supposed '''damage'' and still holding air months later. I call yesterday trying to get a price for an alignment for a 1997 Mercury, and ask "how much would I need to pay for an alignment of my 1997 Mercury, a 2 wheel alignment?" The Jack*ss actually said: ""As much as we can get."" I replied, ""ok,"" and hung up. I am not making this up. My wife was in the room as I had it on speaker phone. We are on a fixed income and price matters. I'm not sure if this fool thinks he's being funny or was just bored; but, it's completely unprofessional behavior to play around (if that's what he was doing) when people need work they can trust. These guys continually disappoint and I wouldn't/don't trust them to work on my car. Shady, unprofessional, and snarky...who wants that? Not me. ---Three strikes? YOU ARE OUT! I used them for a Lyft inspection only. This location gets great marks for service on the phone. I had called a awhile back and the person on the phone was courteous and answered all my questions. Bonus marks for suggesting we input my info so "they would be all set when I came in". I called again on a Sat before I headed in and they let me know it was a first come, first serve situation and time to finish inspection would vary on how busy they were. Prepared with a book I headed out. Parking was available on the side but staff was short handed and it took awhile before someone was able to help. Once attended to things went smoothly, I was remainders again of fees and given a time estimate. 1 star removed for whomever was in my car--there was residue/black dust all over the steering wheel and gear shift. Pro tip: put a paper mat on the floor and use a paper towel or wet wipe before calling the customer for pick up. read more

Scene: Two girls are headed to San Francisco for the weekend for a friend's birthday. They're aiming to arrive at 12, 12:30pm for bottomless mimosas and brunch. But alas, they get a flat tire! Drat! Have no fear--Roadside Assistance is on its way. To ensure they can make it (better late than never, right?), they call Big O to let them know they're coming and what's going on. Junior takes my call and not only is he very professional, but friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. He explains our options--patch or replacement tire. Upon arriving, we're met by 5 staff members, all of whom immediately greet us with smiles and ask how they can help. Junior checks the tire and unfortunately, it can't be repaired so he prepares us for the cost of a new tire. While this is an unexpected cost, he mentions that if we have AAA, we can get a discount. (It's rare that tire shops especially would suggest a discount so it was a welcome surprise!) While they guys in the garage are finding the tire and getting it installed, Jonny (the manager) comes over to show us the bad tire and explain what likely happened, and why a patch wasn't an option. He said they'd get us on the road quickly and was glad he could help us out. Matthew, the last of our Terrific Tire Troubadours, reviews the invoice with us. Cost, discount and the LIFETIME warranty on the tire. "Since you're a customer now, bring the car in anytime and we'll check the pressure on all 4 tires for the life of the tire." (At this point, we've told the guys we're toasting to them for their awesome service.) During the review, we also happened to mention that one of the other tires had lost the cap a while back and we were hoping to buy one as well. Matthew says, "No problem! I'll throw in a couple for free. We want you to be safe out there." (As if they needed to rack up more points...) We were in and out in 30 minutes and what could have been a crappy, run of the mill experience turned out to be fantastic. I live in Rohnert Park but would gladly take my car to Jonny and his team in Novato. I've worked in customer service for over 20 years and I'm a hardcore stickler for a good experience.
